The familiar Skype ring sounded through his computer speakers. Blaine accepted the call, leaning back in his desk chair.
“Hey, beautiful!”
“Hey!” Kurt grinned at him. God he missed that grin.
They recounted their days, catching each other up on missed details. Kurt received high marks on his first round of midterm essays and tests, but his stats professor was giving him grief. Blaine had begun to work on his college applications, and rehearsals for the glee club’s winter musical, Hairspray, were going fairly smoothly.
“Blaine?” Kurt asked, looking a little nervous.
“Yeah?”
“I have this song I’ve been working on for my vocal class and, well, I chose it because it made me think of you and I have to perform it tomorrow in front of the class but I just wanted to sing it for you first since its for you and well you can tell me if I suck or whatever.”
“Kurt! Of course you can sing for me and I don’t think its possible for you to suck at singing.”
Kurt blushed. “Well, here it is…”
Lonely, yeah that's the word
I leave my heart when I leave him
The days go on forever and the nights do too
One evening out on the road
A half a world away from home
I thought he was sleeping
When the call came through
I said, Darling, it's late, is everything ok
Silence took over the room
Til he said
I... I just Love You
I Don't Know Why, I Just Do
When are you coming home
I'm coming home soon
And I just love you too
Lonely lets me be
For a while he sets me free
I close my eyes and I dream of him
He's lost in my arms
His head on my heart
And softly he whispers the words
I...I just Love You
I Don't Know Why, I Just Do
When are you coming home
I'm coming home soon
And I just love you too
I'll never stop being amazed
How my boyfriend knows exactly what to say
I, I just Love You
I Don't Know Why, I Just Do
When are you coming home
I'm coming home soon
Cause I just love you too
Blaine was certain he would never tire of the sound of Kurt’s voice. He was always dazzled at the way Kurt could master songs by the Beatles or Barbra. Kurt could do Top 40 without batting an eye. And he could take that simple phrase, “I just love you” and shoot it straight to Blaine’s heart. And when the last notes hit his ears, Blaine couldn’t find a fitting accolade.
“Kurt,” he managed, his voice breaking, “you… you move me. Still.”
“Blaine—“
“No really, babe, that was… God—I just miss the sound of your voice. When you sing its like… its home.”
“I love you, Blaine.”
“Oh, Kurt. I love you, too.”
“Thirty-six days until break, until I come home.”
“Soon.”
“Soon.”
