The day after Blaines night with Kurt he spent most of it lying in bed. He felt like he had a fever. His skin still burned from Kurts every touch and he felt him all over. As much as the heat on his skin felt unbearable at times, he feared for it to fade away, because he knew once it was gone, he knew he would only be left with the memory of Kurts touch. Blaine knew he would never be over Kurt and he knew what he needed to get up and do. He needed to break up with Joshua. He could not continue his relationship with Joshua. He realizes now it was probably not best to date someone so soon after his break-up with Kurt. He really cant see dating anyone else for the near future. He felt emotionally exhausted. Last night his heart broke more than he thought it could ever break after everything he had been through. This time he could not blame Kurt for his heart break, the one he seemed to be fighting was himself.
The talk with Joshua went fairly well. Blaine admitted to him that he was not ready to be in a relationship and that he still was dealing with feelings for Kurt. No, he did not mention sleeping with Kurt. He felt it would just cause Joshua more hurt than it was necessary. Their relationship just needed to end. Joshua was sweet and understanding as always and told him to contact him if he ever did find he was in a place to date again. The guy was really too good for him.
The next few weeks went by slow for Kurt. He threw himself into his online work with Vogue, working at the shop and helping Brittany with the wedding. At night, he would speak to Elliot. It did bring him comfort talking to Elliot. Elliot was a great was really a great friend and companion. Kurt would do all he could to be a great boyfriend, even if it killed him. They had similar interests and there was no denying their chemistry. He would embrace their relationship. Kurt was determined to move on for both his and Blaines sake. He would not let his true feelings show or dictate his actions. It was over now and he wouldnt allow himself to feel the longing and regret that left him exposed and vulnerable. He now had some anger as well to keep him on track. Blaine wouldnt forgive him. He knew he hurt Blaine. He knew he had been an asshole, but he suffered too. At least he was fighting for what they have. Blaine was just giving up. It takes two people to save a relationship and Blaine just gave up.
He had not seen Blaine in a few weeks and it was for the better. He tried his best to avoid dinners or outings that would place them together. He figured he would just have to get through the wedding and then he would leave Ohio and his relationship with Blaine behind.
Kurt stood in the venue where Brittany and Santana were to be married in the next week. They were to be married outside, surrounded with beautiful spring flowers. The reception was to be in a lovely restored barn. Kurt designed the reception to have a vintage bohemian look. He had to admit, many of the accents actually were ones he had thought of when he allowed himself to think of his and Blaines wedding. The mix of earth tones and elegant linens seem to be a mix of both their personalities. He would cover the ceilings with white lanterns, those were especially Blaines favorite. Try as he might, he couldnt help putting his own past desired wedding elements into this wedding.
He was glad he kept it to himself. He was having a hard enough time avoiding questions about him and Blaine from his Dad and Rachel. The décor would be a sounding alarm of his regret. This afternoon he organized an area of the barn to show off his ideas for Santanas and Brittanys approval.
Blaine hurried inside the barn, he was running late. Santana had insisted that he sit through dinner with her so she could get through more wedding planning stuff. He knew she loved most of it, on the inside anyway, but he thought it was best to be present in case she got a little too carried away with her comments during the moments she was not as enthusiastic about. Soon as Blaine walked in and saw Kurt, he realized how stupid it was to forget that Kurt would obviously be there. Of course hed be there, he was practically their wedding planner. He spend the last few weeks trying his best not to think of Kurt. This meeting was definitely not something he would have agreed to.
Blaine walked towards where Kurt was. Kurt did not notice him yet, he was bobbing around a little with his headphones on. Kurt really zoned the rest of the world out when he had his headphones on. The familiar scene made his chest ache a little. Blaine finally took his focus off Kurt and took in his surroundings. The table setting and decoration were stunning. Blaine was taken back at how perfect it looked to him. There was wooden chairs and table, with beautiful cream linen tablecloth with greenery and crystal hanging decorations. It was beyond anything he had envisioned for his and Kurts wedding. His mind just could not work like Kurts. After the initial awe of the décor, he felt a little beaten up. It wasnt fair. Did Kurt have any idea how perfect this would have been for their wedding? There were even lanterns, he loved lanterns. How could Kurt be so oblivious? Blaine felt like running off and hitting the gym right now, a couple of rounds with a weight bag is what he really needed.
Kurt turns around humming and spots Blaine. He nearly chokes on air. He quickly pulls the headphones out of his ears.
"Blaine, hi, I wasnt expecting to see you," Kurt said in a voice slightly higher then he would have liked.
"Yeah, me neither, Santana wanted me around in case the wedding details got too much and she was less than her tactful self."
"Ah, then your presence is definitely appreciated," Kurt said with a nod and a smile that did not quite reach his eyes.
"So, what do you think?" Kurt says as he turns to the table.
"Its perfect" Blaine replies, not able to elaborate. It was perfect, but painfully so.
Brittany comes bouncing in with Santana a moment later to help break the awkward situation.
"Oh, my gosh, its beautiful," Brittany says running over and giving Kurt a big hug.
"I love it Kurt, I knew my unicorn would not fail me," she said with an infectious smile. Kurt couldnt help but smile back at her in content.
"You did good Martha Stewart, this better not be costing us as good as it looks," Santana says trying to come off with an attitude, but her delight at seeing the decor and Brittanys reaction was not one she could hide.
"Dont worry Santana, I was sure to make a good deal with the vendors and repurposed a lot of the dressings from things I found in craft stores. Its been a busy few weeks."
"Well, thank you Kurt" Santana said sincerely. Its beautiful, I am really glad you are here to help Brit and I."
"Alright, this conversation is bordering sentimental, lets sit down, have dinner and talk about some wedding details before Santana tries to hug me or something," Kurt says jokingly.
They all sit down. Kurt was across from Blaine, he welcomed the bit of distance, but found it hard not to steal a glances at Blaine. Seeing him was harder than he thought. He really needed to work on being around him if he was going to survive the next couple weeks till he left for NY again.
"So, have you guys decided if you are going to say your own vows or the traditional?" Blaine says.
"Well, I was thinking about our own vows, but Kurt talked me into traditional? Brittany answers.
"Oh really, why?" Blaine ask Kurt, genuinely curious. He always thought Kurt favored being more creative.
Kurt redden a bit as he took a sip of his water. "Um, I just always thought traditional vows were more meaningful. Taking a vow that spanned history, that so many other couples took wholeheartly before they embark on a future together seemed more romantic." He said while playing with the food on this plate with his fork.
Blaine did not expect Kurts response nor his that followed "I never thought you would think so much about stuff like that, especially since you seemed so against marriage."
"I was never against marriage, it was getting married young that seemed scary. I always had a vision for when I got married," Kurt said, now looking right at Blaine.
Blaine looked around the table and the décor with new understanding. "Was this his vision for our wedding" he thought to himself.
"Well, I like traditional vows too, Im not really about putting out all my feelings in front of everyone, thats just between me and Brit," Santanas says breaking the tension and Brittany gives her a kiss on the cheek.
"Oh, Kurt, did you think about doing your routine for the wedding?" Brittany says hopefully.
"Not a chance Brittany, its not exactly in my comfort zone. Its just something Elliot and I played around with for the kids at his center," Kurt said with conviction.
"Come on Kurt, you do dancehall pretty damn well!" Brittany says.
"Whoa, dancehall? Kurt?" Blaine blurts out in surprise.
"Youd be surprised Hobbit, twinkle toes here can gets his whine on," Santana says with a laugh.
"This I got to see," Blaine says in disbelief with a little laugh.
Despite Kurts desire to end this meeting as soon as possible to get distance between him and Blaine, he was not about to back down from a challenge.
"Oh, Blaine Anderson, havent you learned never to underestimate me," Kurt says haughtily now with confidence. "You got the music Brit."
"Always!" Brittany and Santana get up excitingly and flank Kurt. Brittany puts on the music. Justins Biebers "Sorry" come on.
Kurt looks directly at Blaine with a sexy fierce look and begins.
Blaine watches and nearly falls out of his seat. Kurt is good. He is really good. All he sees is him. God, how does he move like that? Kurt did not dance a lot, but when he moved, his body was with precision and flexibility. Blaine was always in awe and that waist, the way he would gyrate his hips, he was ashamed to say his pants always felt a bit tighter watching Kurt move. This was totally unexpected. Blaine definitely got a new appreciation for dancehall music.
Elliot arrives. No one sees him watching the dance. As the song ends, he runs up and lifts Kurt up in a big hug.
"Baby, that was awesome! You were incredible," Elliot says excitedly right before he moves in and gives Kurt a passionate kiss.
A lot of things come together for Blaine in those few seconds. One, Elliot was here in Ohio, two, he was kissing Kurt, his Kurt, and three Kurt was not his Kurt, apparently he was Elliots.
Blaine just sat in his seat dumbstruck by all the information he was processing. Thank God for Santanas no filter.
"Excuse me Scary Spice, but when did you two get together," Santana says to Elliot with her hands on her hips.
"Oh, hey Santana, sorry guys," Elliot says as he looks around a little embarrassed. "I was just so excited to see Kurt dancing. You have no idea how long I been trying to get Kurt to do this routine with me and a few of the staff at the center. He would never try it outside of his apartment."
"Uh, huh, do you usually kiss like that for the kiddies," Santana says looking them up and down.
"Uh, no Santana," Kurt says rolling his eyes. Elliot and I have been dating for a couple of months before I came up to Ohio and a couple weeks ago we became boyfriends."
Blaine just kept putting the pieces together in his head as he heard them spoke. "So, Elliot was the guy he was dating, Elliot was the one who sent him here to seek Blaine out, and now Elliot was his boyfriend. This really cant be happening" he thought to himself.
Elliot looks over at Blaine and gives him a hug as Blaine remains stiff. "Hey Blaine, good to see you again."
"Likewise," Blaine says dryly.
"El, what are you doing here, I did not expect you until next week," Kurt says, again in a voice an octave higher than he wanted.
"Well, I missed you and had some time off, so I thought Id come up. Thats alright isnt it?"
"No, thats great, just a surprise," Kurt says and gives him a quick hug.
"Uh huh," Santana says as she rolls her eyes. "So Elliot, where are you staying, I cant imagine Papa Bear knows about you too and would be ok with you shacking up with Goldilocks."
Kurt eyes bulge out in realization that he did not plan ahead. He was too chicken to talk to Burt about his failed attempt to get Blaine back and his impromptu commitment to Elliot.
Elliot kisses Kurt on the cheek. "Dont worry hun, I figured youd be to chicken to tell Burt yet, Im staying with Rachel."
Blaine keeps a fake smile on his face the whole time. The terms of endearments were going to make him crack any second.
"Well, thats great Elliot, its nice seeing you again. Santana, Im going to head out." Blaine gets up and starts to leave, when Elliot calls out.
"Hey Blaine, you got a sec," he ask as he follows him to the door.
Kurt goes to to follow them when Santana places a hand on this chest roughly to stop him. "Easy there Lover Boy"
Kurt gets annoyed as he see Elliot and Blaine disappear outside before he was able join them. He was curious to what Elliot had to say to Blaine. This whole thing was getting out of control. He definitely did not mean to push his relationship with Eliiot in Blaines face.
Kurt gives Santana a cold glare
"Whats your problem now Santana"
"Your are treading on very thin ice Lady Hummel. I am not sure what game you are playing but my threat still stands. I dont want to have to end you" Santana says in a menacing tone".
"You know your protective act is really getting old. Maybe you should have a talk with your pal. I didnt want this Santana. He gave up on us and I cant keep hurting both of us by fighting for something that is already lost".
Outside....
"Whats up Elliot?" Blaine says trying to keep a pleasant tone.
"Listen, I know that had to be weird in there. Kurt told me you have a new boyfriend and you two officially ended things, but I just wanted to let you know that I was never after Kurt while you two were together. After you two broke up early this year, we just started to hang out and things progressed from there. I was even the one who told him to come and see if there was anything between you two before we became official. I just wanted you to know that I respect you and I hope we can continue to be friends."
"Sure Elliot, I really appreciate that," Blaine says will a smile.
As Elliot turns and enters the barn, Blaine whispers to himself "God, I hate that guy".
