Author's Notes:

Song:  "Here" by Alessia Cara

This chapter marks around the mid way point of this story.  This was a short chapter, but I promise there is much more to come.

Keep the reviews coming.  Your comments are helping me improve on the story as I go.  Thank you so much for your feedback.

The first surprise of the night occurred when Kurt steps into Scandals for the first time since high school.  The outdated and run down excuse for a gay bar was now totally transformed. As he walks in, he takes in the room. There are mahogany wood floors and finishing all around the bar counter with black leather covered bar stools.  Theres a center dance floor near a large stage that is surrounded by sleek black tables and wooden chairs. Off to the side there are lounge chairs with jewel toned pillows.

The room looked....dare he say, tasteful.  The gays had definitely got to this place.  As Kurt continued in, he noticed the people were different from last time, people where decently dressed, a mix of both casual and trendy date night attire.  There was definitely a number of people dressed to impress.  It was Friday night and the bar was pretty full with a buzz of energy.

Kurt takes a seat at the bar.  He is greeted by an attractive brunette women, she looked to be around her mid 30s and was in excellent shape.

"Can I get you something honey?" she says with a kind smile.

"I could use some liquid courage, any suggestions?" Kurt says.  He felt that his regular nonalcoholic or more fruity favorite drinks would take longer to get him relaxed.

"Sounds like you could use a shot of whiskey." The bartender sets up a shot for Kurt and he takes it down with a scrunched up face.

"Would you like a Shirley temple sweetie to take the edge off?" the bartender says knowingly.

"Yes, please, thank you," he says with a strained half smile.

"No, problem," she says with a warm smile.

The piano starts to play and Kurt turns to face the bottom of the stage where he first noticed the instrument.  The moment he recognized Blaines voice, time seemed to stop.  Kurt took in a breath and automatically shuts his eyes to let Blaines voice in.  Just the familiarly of his voice, seeped into his soul and awakened something deep inside of him.  Kurt opens his eyes and all he could think about was "Breathe."

Blaine is dressed in dark blue jeans and a black v-neck t-shirt.  His clothes was fitted, not pasted on him, but it certainly showcased his arms that were now more muscular.  His hair was less gelled than Blaine would normally wear in public, but it showcased more of his natural curls that Kurt had always found suited him a bit better.  He was absolutely breathtaking, literally.  The song that Blaine was singing was more soulful and edgy than he was used to hearing Blaine sing. He sounded sexy, but what more came across was a sound almost of pain.  He knew that Blaine would use his music to express his thoughts and feelings.  He has witnessed it when Blaine would sing with joy and love, but this was not that.  He had also heard Blaine sing with regret, anger, and frustration.  That was closer to what he was hearing, but today was something different, something deeper.  Kurt focused in and listened to the words he knew would further tell Blaines story.

Here

(Blaine)

"Excuse me if I seem a little unimpressed with this
An anti-social pessimist but usually I dont mess with this
And I know you mean only the best and
Your intentions arent to bother me
But honestly Id rather be
Somewhere with my people we can kick it and just listen
To some music with the message (like we usually do)
And well discuss our big dreams
How we plan to take over the planet
So pardon my manners, I hope youll understand
That Ill be here
Not there in the kitchen with the girl
Whos always gossiping about her friends
So tell them Ill be here
Right next to the boy whos throwing up cause
He cant take whats in his cup no more
Oh God why am I here?

Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here oh oh oh
I ask myself what am I doing here?
Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here
And I cant wait till we can break up outta here"

Kurt listens to Blaine and wonders where Blaines "Here" is for Blaine, where was it that he looks so desperately to be rid of.

Blaine pours his emotions into the middle of the final verse and closes his eyes and just releases.

(Blaine)

"How did it ever come to this
I shoulda never come to this
So holla at me Ill be in the car when youre done
Im standoffish, dont want what youre offering
And Im done talking
Awfully sad it had to be that way
So tell my people when theyre ready that Im ready
And Im standing by the TV with my beanie low
Yo Ill be over here

Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here oh oh oh
I ask myself what am I doing here?
Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here
And I cant wait till we can break up outta here"

As the music comes to an end there is a big applause.  Blaine just looks down into his lap.  He tunes everyone out thinks of nothing, feels nothing, and takes a moment of peace.  Blaine relishes the rare moments after he sings where he enjoys the feeling of release and escapes into himself to clear his mind.

Kurt watches Blaine and has an overwhelming feeling to just run over to him, kiss him, and just feel and touch him.  At the same time, he is conflicted with the desire to run away and crumble into pieces from the mere intensity of the whole situation.

Kurt walks up to Blaine who hasnt noticed his presence yet.

"So, come here often?"

Blaine looks up in absolute shock, "Kurt, what are you doing here?"

Kurt really should have thought about what he would say, definitely forethought would have been beneficial at this moment, but instead he just let his words of desperations fall out of his mouth.

"I came here for you Blaine.  Im hoping to be with you again.  I came here to fix things between us."

Blaine cant even begin to process Kurts words, so he just allows the words that first surface and answers Kurts declaration.

"Kurt, Im with someone else.  Im sorry, but Ive moved on."

Kurt takes in Blaines words like he is absorbing a dagger to the heart.  He quickly finds the strength to mask his feelings.

"No, I understand Blaine.  I knew it was a long shot, but I had to give it a chance."

Blaine had a million things he wanted to say.  He had ran it in his head for months if this moment ever came, but at the moment no words came to mind.

"I just really dont know what to say right now Kurt."

"No, its ok, it was crazy for me to come here like this.  Listen, I am here in Ohio with Rachel for a few days.  Im at my Dads, maybe we all could get together before I leave or something."

"Yeah, sure."  Blaine says absently as Kurt nods and walks away.

Blaine just watches him as he leaves the bar and slowly lets the reality of the situation sink in.

"What the fuck was that?"
