“Your okay, Kurt. Your okay. Look, my keys are in my car. Go to my car, get in, and lock the doors, okay? I’ll be there in a couple minutes. Here’s my phone. Call the police.” Kurt nodded as Blaine helped him to his feet. Blaine watched as Kurt made his way to his car, all the while keeping an eye on David, who was working his way to his feet. Time for the boxing to pay off, he thought to himself.
He let David make the first move, but because he was drunk his movements were slow and clumsy. When he came at Blaine again, with the thought that Kurt was secure in his car, Blaine let loose. He hit David with a hard cut to the jaw, knocking him off balance. When he came back for more, Blaine delivered a damaging blow to David’s ribs. When David swung back, Blaine quickly ducked and swept David’s feet out from under him. Blaine had to smile, thinking about the “key principle” he boxing instructor always told him. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Kurt sat in the driver’s seat of Blaine’s car, watching as David was knocked down over and over, and couldn’t help but smile through his tears. Finally it was David instead of him getting knocked around. That happiness, however, was short-lived when he caught a glimpse of himself in the rear view mirror. The majority of his face was already turning black and blue, his nose was bleeding, and his hair was everywhere. He couldn’t imagine what the rest of his looked like.
But one thing was for sure. That was the most terrifying experience of his life. He couldn’t believe what had happened. He was ridiculously sore from how hard and how much David had hit him. David had actually almost raped him. As a matter of fact, if Blaine hadn’t come right then, he would’ve succeeded. Kurt had been lucky, saved once again by Blaine’s impeccable timing.
As much as he wanted to watch David suffer just a little bit more, he knew he had to call the police. It wasn’t as satisfying knowing that David was drunk anyway. A few seconds later, he got a 911 operator.
“911 hotline, what’s your emergency?”
“Hi, my name is Kurt Hummel. My ex-boyfriend severely assaulted me. I’m sitting in my current boyfriend’s car. He’s kinda beating up my ex now.”
“Ok, sir, what’s the address?”

When Blaine finally heard the police sirens, he was relieved. He could finally go tend to Kurt while the police tended to David. He went to the end of the driveway to meet them as Kurt got out of the car and went to him.
The cop car pulled up at the edge of the driveway, and two police officers got out. The woman, who was driving, looked at Kurt and Blaine. She noted Kurt’s rough appearance and gave him a sympathetic smile. Her partner climbed out of the passenger seat and immediately got down to business.
“Are you Kurt Hummel?” Kurt nodded at the officer, somewhat surprised by how deep his voice was. His partner walked up to them.
“Where is he?” Blaine put his arm around Kurt, careful of the bruises he knew were surfacing. He took the liberty of answering, making Kurt thankful.
“Over in front of the garage door. He’s drunk, so I think he finally passed out.” The female officer talked to them while her partner got to work. She smiled at them, trying to lighten the mood.
“So, an underage on top of assault. He didn’t think this through, did he?” Kurt smiled. He found the voice to answer this time.
“If you knew him, you wouldn’t be so surprised.” The officer smiled at them.
“Ok, well, Kurt, I’m going to need a statement from you, okay?” He nodded. “Okay. So why don’t you just tell me what happened?”
“Okay, well, I had just gotten a text from Blaine saying that he was on his way, so when I-”
“Wait, who’s Blaine?” Kurt pointed to Blaine. “So that’s the current boyfriend?” Kurt felt Blaine’s eyes on him, and he knew he was smiling. Kurt couldn’t help but smile too.
“Yes.”
“Okay, go on.”
“So, when I heard a car pull up outside, I assumed it was him. I walked outside to meet him, and it was David.”
“And David is the ex-boyfriend?” Kurt watched as the second officer, now covered in David’s puke and looking less than pleased, put David in the back of the police car. Kurt nodded.
“Now, David threw me against the garage door and just started hitting me. Usually he’d stop after a couple punches, but-”
“So this has happened before?” Kurt looked down, and Blaine stepped in.
“It was an abusive relationship.”
“Ok, assault, underage drinking, and domestic abuse. Go on.” Kurt looked and Blaine and gained confidence with Blaine’s nod.
“Anyway, he just didn’t stop. He threw me on the ground after a while and kicked me a few times. And he…he tried to rape me. But I struggled and fought him enough to delay it to Blaine getting here. That’s when he took over.” The other cop came over to them.
“And did a pretty good job by the looks of it.” His partner and Blaine and Kurt backed off after smelling the vomit on his uniform. His partner spoke up first.
“You are gonna take that jacket off before getting in that car, right?”
“Yeah, I have a spare in the trunk. You have a grocery bag I can throw this in?” Kurt nodded and started to walk towards the house. Blaine stopped him.
“No, I’ll get it. Your coming back to my house with me anyway. I’ll grab a bag and leave your dad a note. Where are they?” Kurt smiled at him.
“The bags are stuffed beside the fridge. There’s pens and note paper on the counter by the phone.” Blaine nodded and disappeared into the house. The kitchen was immaculate, not a thing out of place, so finding the bags was easy. He got a pen and a piece of paper and wrote a note to Kurt’s family.
Mr. Hummel, Carole, and Finn,
This is Blaine Anderson. Kurt is with me at my place. Something came up while you were gone and…well, I’ll let Kurt explain it. But anyway, he’s with me. Just call his cell when you get home so he knows you got this note. Thanks.
Blaine
Blaine put the note on the small table in the kitchen and left. He ran down the steps and down the driveway, and handed the plastic bag to the officer. He turned to Kurt.
“Okay, I left a note for your dad, Carole, and Finn. You’re gonna come home with me.” Kurt nodded.
“Thanks. I really don’t want to be alone right now.”
“I didn’t think you would.” Blaine pulled Kurt into his arms, holding him tight. Kurt put his arms around Blaine’s waist, holding on and not planning to let go. Blaine looked over at the officers. “Is there anything else you need?”
The female officer stepped toward them, placing her hand on Kurt’s shoulder. “We do need pictures of the injuries as evidence. Don’t worry, hon. He’s not going to be able to get to you. Ever.” She led Kurt over into the street light while her partner got a camera out of the car. First they took pictures of his torn clothes. Every tear was accounted for. They asked him to take off his shirt and they took pictures of all of the bruises on his torso and face, and noted his bloody nose.
Blaine watched the whole time, the look on his face switching between anger and sympathy. After a few minutes, they let him put his shirt back on and the three of them walked back over to Blaine.
“That’s all we need. It should be more than enough to get him some jail time.” The male officer had taken off his puke-covered jacket and now just had on his bullet proof vest over a white tank top. After telling Blaine this, he went over to the car and threw the plastic bag containing his jacket into the trunk and pulled a fresh one out of a duffel bag. The female officer approached him now, Kurt by her side.
“He’s right. Especially since in addition to the assault, he is quite obviously drunk. That alone would work against him. But this…this added on will not do him any favors.”
Kurt couldn’t help it. “Good.”
Blaine pulled Kurt close to him again. “So that’s all you need?” They nodded. “Okay, then I’m going to get him back to my place so he can maybe get some rest.” He led Kurt to his car and opened the passenger door for him, and closed it once he was in. Blaine got in and started the car. Blaine waited for the cops to pull away before he did, and as they passed he saw David in the back seat, glaring at him. He put the car in drive and started for his house.
