Author's Notes: And the funeral.
There they sat, six boys dressed in black suits, on their way to Lima Cemetery. Well, Kurt wasn’t exactly in a suit. He sported a black silk shirt and his signature black kilt. Cooper was driving and Wes sat in the passenger seat beside him. Blaine and Kurt shared the middle row of the minivan they had borrowed and Jeff and Nick occupied the back. They were silent the entire way, no one daring to make a sound. Even the radio was too much of an annoyance today.

As much as Kurt didn’t want to admit it, he was scared. He didn’t know what was going to happen with David’s friends today, and the uncertainty made him very uneasy.

They pulled into the parking lot of the cemetery after a drive that seemed much longer that it actually was. They all hesitated before getting out of the car. Cooper turned around in his seat to look at Kurt.

“Are you sure?” Kurt took a deep breath and nodded. They all slowly got out of the car, hoping he was going to change his mind, but knowing it wasn’t gonna happen. Kurt got out too, looking around for everyone else. He had asked Mercedes to rally up some people from glee club to come too, and he spotted them walking towards the van. She had brought Puck, Finn, Sam, and Tina (because that girl might be little, but she was a freaking ninja). Mercedes hugged him,

“Are you ok, sweetie?” Kurt nodded.

“Thanks for coming.” He looked around at the rest of his friends.

“You need the backup,” Puck said. “We weren’t gonna leave you hangin.” Kurt smiled. It was good to know that even at McKinley he had people there for him.

“Well, this is Jeff, Nick, Cooper, and Wes, and, yeah, you know Blaine.“ Silence fell on the crowd when a group of David’s friends was spotted walking towards them. They were immensely outnumbered, Kurt having ten people with him and them only four, but they still managed to be menacing.

“You really had the nerve to come here, Hummel? After everything you caused?” Kurt, scared as he was, refused to show it. Of course, it helped to have so many people on his side.

“I have just as much right to be here as you do.” The one who had spoken reached out and punched Kurt, which he would find to be a very stupid move in retrospect, because all ten of Kurt’s backup crew came forward, Blaine leading the pack. Upon seeing Blaine, the four boys opposite them looked scared.

“Shit, dude, that’s the kid that-” He would never finish that sentence, because Blaine punched him so hard he swallowed at least three teeth. In the time it took his friends to realize what had happened and attempt to retaliate, the rest shot forward. Puck punched one in the gut, making him double over in pain. Cooper caught one by an arm and flipped him onto his back. Finn, who had clearly been dying to do so for a while now, kneed the last one in the groin.

The group walked away, leaving David’s four friends lying on the ground. And in just a few minutes, before anyone knew it had happened, the fight was over and there they stood, staring at the casket being lowered into the ground just a few feet in front of them. Kurt was placed in the center of a semicircle with his friends standing around him, Blaine right next to him of course, his arm around Kurt. Everyone there seemed to give them dirty looks at one point or another, but they paid it no attention.

“And here, we wish young David Karofsky a peaceful eternal rest, in hopes that death will bring him more pleasures than did his life. In hopes that whatever moved such a charming young man to end his life so soon never fall upon another human being.” One by one, his family and friends walked up to the hole in which David now lay, grabbing a handful of the still moist soil and tossing it onto the casket sitting six feet below them.

Kurt had promised himself that he wouldn’t cry. Not in front of all his friends. Not in front of Blaine. And not for a person who was so horrible to him. His plan, however, didn’t last. As the last person, David’s mother, tossed her handful of dirt onto her son’s final resting place, crying so much that her husband was beside her holding her upright, Kurt broke. He turned his body in towards Blaine, resting his forehead on Blaine’s strong shoulder, as Blaine tightened his grip with the arm he already had on Kurt and put his other arm around him as well, rubbing his back. And what the priest said next made Blaine worry even more for his boyfriend’s sanity.

“It was asked of me, by David’s family, that I read you this note at this point in time. This is David’s suicide note, left in his jail cell for someone to find once he had taken his life. It reads, ‘I can’t take being in here anymore. These guys beat on me and rape me and go out of their way to make me miserable. Whoever finds this, tell my mom and dad that I’m sorry, and that I love them. And tell Kurt to go to hell for putting me in here.’” Kurt winced at the mention and started sobbing into Blaine’s blazer. Blaine kept rubbing Kurt’s back, kicking himself for letting Kurt come here. This was the last thing he needed to hear, but he insisted on coming. “Most of you who knew David knew that he was gay, and you also knew his boyfriend, Kurt. I went to visit David in prison one afternoon, and we discussed what had occurred between the two of them. He told me that Kurt had broken up with him because he had found someone else, and that he went to Kurt’s house to try to win him back. And when he did so, Kurt called the police.”

As the priest went on, Blaine and the others all bit their tongues. They knew what had happened, and it surely wasn’t the story that was being told. They held onto their self control, no matter how much they all wanted to scream out that David was a liar, and tell them what really happened, and how horrible their loved one was. It seemed hardest for Finn and Mercedes and Blaine to control what they so desperately wanted to say, what they wanted every person there to know. The three exchanged many looks, mostly two encouraging the third to stay quiet. Blaine jumped when Kurt’s whisper floated into his ear, shaking him out of his very non prep school thoughts.

“I love you…” It was so quiet that Blaine had to make sure he had heard this right.

“Hm?” he whispered back, trying not to sound too excited by the three little words. A shiver climbed up his back when Kurt kissed his neck.

“I love you,” he answered, only slightly louder than before, but loud enough for Blaine to confirm what he had heard. He kissed Kurt’s cheek, smiling ever so softly.

“I love you too.” Blaine held him tight, as if fearing that everything would be lost of he let go. That he would wake up and all of this would be a both a wonderful dream and a terrible nightmare, while the priest was, at last, speaking his final words.

“And so we conclude with the thought that although this young man passed too soon for the liking of any of us, he is with the Lord now. No more suffering and no more pain of life on earth will befall our young brother for the rest of eternity, for he sits on his throne next to God in the kingdom of heaven. Good night, child, and may you know that your life on this earth shall not be forgotten, for thou who believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The crowd began to disperse, but Kurt stayed in place, and jumped off Blaine when he heard Mrs. Karofsky’s voice directed at him, her face still red from crying.

“It should be you in there, Kurt Hummel. Not my baby…” Tears streamed down her face as she walked away, her heels softly clicking on the sidewalk near the cars. Every one of Kurt’s friends had their head turned, watching Mrs. Karofsky in shock of what she had just said. One by one they woke from their trance and stepped closer to Kurt and Blaine, who had moved into the same position they had been in before with Kurt sobbing into Blaine’s shoulder once again.

“No matter what they say,” Blaine began into Kurt’s ear, “its not your fault.”
End Notes: So. All done. What do you think?
