When Kurt and Blaine arrived at the coffee shop, they saw Wes and his father sitting at an outside table. Kurt momentarily went back to the day when he met David here. He had been sitting at that same table. But he quickly put the thought out of his head. Today was about moving forward, not going back. They got out of the car and walked up to the table, Wes and his father rising to meet them. All four of them sat and Blaine called the waitress over to order their coffee.
“Umm…can I get a medium mocha frappe, and a French vanilla cappuccino for my friend here.”
“Sure.” The waitress smiled as she walked away, into the building to retrieve their drinks. Wes looked at Blaine.
“So what’s this about, man? You said you had something to talk to us about.” Blaine looked over at Kurt and knew he was on his own to explain.
“Well, Kurt and I are kinda…” Wes and his dad caught on quickly.
“Aahhhh. Well, Kurt, is it? I’m Scott and this is my son Wes.” Kurt shook their hands, smiling.
“I know Wes. We met when I visited Dalton.” Scott smiled, and glanced at Blaine as he continued.
“The thing is, Kurt recently broke up with an abusive boyfriend, who has very violent and possibly vengeful friends. And all the bullying at McKinley…its ridiculous. And he decided that he wants to go to Dalton. We both want to come back. Now, I know that my scholarship still stands. But he-” Scott interrupted.
“He needs one too?” Kurt nodded.
“My dad is a widowed mechanic and my stepmother is an underpaid nurse. We don’t exactly have the money to pay Dalton tuition.”
“And I figured you worked your magic for me because of all the bullying I was getting at my old school and I was really hoping that you could do the same for him.” Scott looked at them both for a minute, thinking things through. The waitress came back, smiling.
“Here’s your drinks. Will you need anything else?” Blaine spoke again, taking out his wallet.
“No, that’ll be all. Thanks so much.” He paid her for all four drinks, plus a tip.
“Well…you know I can’t turn down a kid that’s being pushed around. And by the looks of Kurt, its bad. That from the ex?” Kurt looked down and nodded. Blaine spoke up.
“The night Kurt broke up with him, he showed up at Kurt’s house and…did this. I got there just before…” Blaine looked at Kurt, not wanting to reveal anything Kurt wasn’t comfortable with.
“Blaine got there just before David raped me.” Wes gasped and Scott put his hands over his mouth to cover his own, their eyes full of concern. “David was really drunk. Blaine had me hide in his car and call the cops while he beat the crap out of David. He‘s in jail. Has been since that night.” There was silence for a minute, until Scott’s voice came out in a whisper.
“Wow…” He put a hand on Kurt’s, laying on the table. “I promise you, I will do everything I can to get you the hell out of that school. How much scholarship would you need?”
“My dad said that he could do half at the most.”
“That’s not going to be a problem at all. I guarantee it.” Kurt started to tear up despite himself.
“Thank you.”
“No problem. As a matter of fact, I’m going to go home and get on that right now. Could you guys bring Wes home when you finish?” Kurt and Blaine nod. Scott claps his son on the shoulder and walks to his car, pulling out in a rush. Wes looks at Kurt.
“He’ll find something in a heartbeat with that kind of story, don’t worry.” Kurt smiled. “So…you two are together. Since when?” Blaine smiled.
“To be perfectly honest, about four days.”
“So a personal record, Anderson! Nice!” All three boys laugh.
“Better than you’ve done.” The three friends sat and talked and joked for a while. Maybe a half an hour. Then Wes looked at his watch.
“Oh, I better be getting home.”
“Yeah, me too. I’m starving and Carole is making spaghetti for dinner. And since I don’t have to drink that horrible diet drink anymore, I am going to stuff my face.” Blaine smiled and pulled Kurt closer to his side by his waist as Kurt briefly rested his head on Blaine’s strong shoulder. They made the short trip to Wes’ house and let him out.
“My dad will call you as soon as he knows something, Anderson. This mean your going to be a Warbler again?” Blaine laughed.
“You know it.” Wes clapped him on the shoulder and climbed out of the back seat. Kurt and Blaine waited outside his house until he was safely inside. Only then did they pull away.
“I told you Wes’ dad would come through for you. Just like he did for me.” Kurt could do nothing but grin. No words would escape his lips. Not even any sound. Just a content grin.
