Chapter eight

Blaine had been reading 50 Shades of Gray (He just had to, Matt Bomer was going to be in the movie and he was just delectable) when he heard screaming coming from Rachel's room. He immediately dropped the book, charged out of his room, and threw open the door to Rachel's.

The scene that greeted him was worse than anything Blaine had imagined.

Kurt lay strewn on the ground, out cold, and Rachel kneeled over him, shrieking.

“Kurt! Kurt! Oh my god, Kurt, wake up!” Rachel was only getting more and more frantic. Blaine rushed over and grabbed her shoulders. She quieted immediately and stared at Blaine with wide eyes.

“Rachel, listen to me. Tell me exactly what happened. Calmly.”

“He- I- we were talking and he just fell! He won't wake up, Detective, please help me.”

Blaine felt the pulse on his wrist, perfectly normal. “Do you have perfume? Scented lotion? The stronger the better.”

Rachel nodded and scrambled up, quickly snatching a bottle of Diamond Dust by Pink perfume out of her suitcase and tossing it to Blaine.

He uncapped it and sprayed his wrist twice. He gently closed Kurt's mouth and held his wrist up to Kurt't nose.

We watched as Kurt inhaled and his eyes snapped open. He sat up quickly, pushed Blaine's arm away from him, and pulled his knees into his chest.

“Don't tell him. Don't tell him I'm here, please don't.” Kurt spoke in a jumbled tone, Blaine was unable to get what he was saying.

“Don't tell who? Kurt, what are you talking about?”

Kurt stood, far too quickly, and nearly fell again. Blaine jumped up and grabbed Kurt's arm. He pushed Kurt gently down onto Rachel's bed. Kurt's panicked eyes were staring at nothing and his posture was ram rod straight.

“Just try to rest, Kurt, we'll be right outside.” Blaine jerked his head towards the door at Rachel. She scampered out in front of Blaine, he closed the door behind them.

“What was he talking about? Who was he talking about?”

Rachel looked beyond bewildered. “I- I have no clue!”

“Ok, what were you talking about before he passed out?”

“Nothing! I mean- we were talking about Finn and as soon as he heard his name he just fell!”

“And he was saying not to tell ‘him'  that he was here. I think I need to give Detective Hudson a call.” Blaine scratched at his chin.

“I'm going to sit by Kurt. You do that, and you do it now. Please.” Blaine would say something about her giving him orders, but she looked positively stricken.

“Ok.”

Rachel rushed off into her bedroom and Blaine dialed Detective Hudson's number.

Hello?”

Hey, Finn? We need to talk. In person. Puck's gonna watch the house, want to grab some coffee?”

Um, sure, man. Can you tell me what this is about?”

Blaine scrubbed a hand over his face. “Not really, I'll meet you at the Starbucks down the road in say, twenty?”

Sounds great. Well, not great. It sounds serious, but I'll see you then.”

Blaine smiled slightly. Talking to Finn almost always put him in a better mood. But then he frowned again, his upcoming conversation was not going to put anyone in a better mood.

When Blaine arrived, Finn was already sitting at a table by the door with two cups of coffee and a plate of biscotti. When Finn saw him, he smiled and stood up, pulling Blaine into a hug.

“Hey, man! I got you some coffee. Uh, let's sit. Talk.”

Blaine smiled, sitting down across from Blaine at the table. “Thanks. So there really is no easy way to talk about this, but we need to. It's for the safety of a witness.”

Finn's smile faded a bit. “Do what you have to do, I totally understand. Go ahead.”

Blaine nodded. “I need to know if the name Porcelain means anything to you.” He figured he'd start with Kurt's street name, just to make sure Finn, as goofy and kind as he seemed, wasn't a ghost from the disturbing parts of Kurt's past.

“Porcelain? No, man, not really ringing any bells.” Blaine sighed, this was good. But it also could be terrible. It meant that if Finn knows Kurt, he knows Kurt.

“Ok, Finn. I'm going to say a name. It may upset you or scare you, you just need to stay calm and talk to me.”

Finn looked a tad terrified. “Ok. Let's here it.”

“Kurt Hummel.” There was an immediate reaction. All color left Finn's face and his normally carefree expression and posture was tense.

“Please tell me he's okay. Please.”

Blaine was shocked. “He's fine. How do you know him?”

Finn looked left and right clearly flustered. He ran a hand through his hair. “Where is he? What does he have to do with the case? I have to call Burt, I-”

“Finn, answer my question.”

“He's my brother.” Finn's eyes met his. “He disappeared when we were eighteen.”

Blaine couldnt have been more surprised, but he kept his cool. He needed answers. “Do you have any idea why?”

“I know exactly why.” He paused. “Kurt was just- amazing. High school was almost over and Kurt was just about headed into his prime. He was going to New York, off to NYADA, off to live his dream. But then he got a boyfriend.” Blaine didnt know why something twisted hot in his gut, but didn't really pause to think about it. “And this guy- this guy was an ass. Kurt talked to me about him once, Steve was his name.” Finn looked furious now. “He asked me what he should do when Steve tried to force him into sex and I said dump his ass. He never listened though.” Finn slammed his hand down on the table and looked away.

“A few months before graduation, Kurt disappeared. We tried to find Steve, but he was gone too. Kurt wouldnt do that. Even if Steve pressured him. His dad cried every day for three months, Kurt would never leave him. Steve is the reason he's gone.”

“I'm so sorry, Finn. I can't imagine what youre going through, but Kurt's not gone.” Finn looked up. “He's okay and under police protection.”

“See, that's what I don't get. Why is he under police protection?”

Blaine shifted nervously. “I think we all need to sit down and have a long talk. Fill in the gaps. Together.”

Finn nodded. “Let's go.”

“What?”

Finn stood and grabbed his jacket. “I havent seen my brother in almost a decade. I'll follow your car to the Safe House.”

“Here's the thing-”

“No, Blaine.” Finn's voice was firm and serious, in a way that Blaine only rarely heard. “I don't care, I'm seeing my brother. Get in your car and drive, I'll follow you.”

Blaine opened his mouth but readily shut it and nodded, scooping up his keys and following Finn out the door.

Blaine had no clue what the outcome of this get-together would be, but he did know that he was very scared to find out.
