Kurt Hummel had no idea he was a wizard for years, no one had said a word to him about it. It wasn't until the day of mother's death that he found out. He remembered it clearly, the day his mother died. It was the worst day of his whole life. As a young boy, his mother was everything to him. He was sent to a muggle school for a few years and one day he was told to go home early, that his mother was sick. So that's what he did. He went home and his father took him to the hospital. His mother lay in a hospital bed and she looked terrible, so sick and so beaten.
"Kurt." His mother stretched out her weak hand and Kurt stepped forward to take it. His tiny fingers curling around her hand. "There's something i need to tell you."
Kurt listened as his mother explained what he was, that he was a wizard, a half blood wizard. It took a few minutes for it to sink in. He couldn't believe it. No it wasn't real. It was a joke. Wizards weren't real.
"You are a wizard, my darling. One day you will go to Hogwarts and become a great wizard. I am so proud of you." His mother smiled. "I love you, Kurtie and i always will."
"I love you too." Kurt said back, gripping at her hand as it went limp in his own. His mother was dead.

His father struggled with him even more, Kurt's magical abilities were slowly starting to come out and other people were noticing. He kept being called into school because without realising he was doing it, Kurt was doing magic and it concerned and worried the teachers. No teacher even mentioned the bullying that the boy suffered. In the end, Burt pulled Kurt out of school and taught him at home when they weren't at the shop. It was also obvious to Burt that his son was gay which didn't help the bullying. Kurt would often go out and play but he'd always come home crying because of something a kid had said or done to him. Burt tried his hardest to protect Kurt but how can you protect a gay wizard child?

Kurt wanted to do everything he could to make his mother proud of him, he knew that she expected him to be a great and talented wizard. When he eventually went to the school, whatever it was called, he would do whatever it took to be the best. He needed to do it, for her. He lay on his bed staring at the ceiling when he heard the letter box rattle. His father was in the garden so he went to get the post himself, that's when he saw it. The letter addressed to him. He saw the word "Hogwarts" written on it and he got so excited that he called out for his mother. Then realised that she wasn't around any more. He knew his mother would be happy to read the letter with him. He opened the letter and read allowed to himself.
"Dear Mr. Hummel,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of necessary books and equipment.
Term begins on September 1. We await your owl by no later than July 31.
Yours Sincerely,
Minerva McGonagall
Deputy Headmistress"
Kurt's grin was so wide that it hurt his face. He did it! He got into Hogwarts and he was going to make his mother proud of him. He was going to show her that he could be a great wizard. He wanted to try. He didn't know anything about Hogwarts, wherever he looked he couldn't find one little thing on it. His father didn't know much either. He only knew that his wife was a witch and that Kurt was magical too. Kurt wanted to know more desperately, he wanted to start learning and get everything he needed. Also he needed to find out where to get the stuff from.

Kurt had showed his father the letter and it was clear that his father wasn't over the moon about it but he wasn't angry. He had been expecting it for some time now. Kurt had questioned his father on everything he knew and the one thing his mother did tell his father, was where Diagon Alley was. Kurt was beyond grateful for it otherwise he'd be lost and stuck.

It was time to go to Diagon Alley and Kurt was beyond excited. He got all dressed up in an adorable paperboy hat, red striped shirt, tight black trousers and a bowtie. His father said that he didn't need to get so dressed up but for Kurt, that wasn't even close to dressing up. His father had directions so once they got into the car they drove in the right direction, making all the right turns and stops. Once they arrived a kindly elderly man showed them the way inside, that was of course Kurt's idea. Burt was beyond uncomfortable asking a stranger for help. But they got inside regardless. Burt had to keep a tight grip on Kurt's arm to stop him running off because the place looked incredible. Kurt would definitely fit in there. Kurt's eyes were so wide and his jaw was dropped, he couldn't stop staring and grinning at everything. He took out his list of what he needed and read over it.
"Kurt, we have to go to a place called Gringotts first. Your mothers instructions." Burt and Kurt found the place right at the end, it was a huge building and when they got inside Kurt walked through without fear. Burt admired his son, he was honestly a bit weary of the goblins that looked completely terrifying. Burt pulled out a key and a piece of paper with a code on it and gave it to the goblin who stared at them.
"The account of Kurt Hummel." Burt said.

Kurt looked up at his father with an incredibly confused look. He had no idea that he had an account and what was it in? Was it money? That's the only kind of account he knew of. The goblin led the Hummel men to a cart, getting them in and setting off. Burt was feeling really sick by the time they got to the account but Kurt had been laughing and excited the entire ride. When they got off the cart, Burt's legs were like jelly and he was holding onto Kurt's shoulder to steady himself. The goblin went to the vault, warning them to stay back before opening it. The door swung open and Kurt stepped inside, gasping at the piles of money that he saw.
"Is this mine?" Kurt asked his father.
"Yes. Your mother earned all of this herself before she met me, after we met she stopped working in this world and began working in my world. She kept this money aside and then her father died, leaving her more money. When she was dying, she told me all about all of this and what to do so when you became of age, i can tell you. This money is yours, all yours for school things and other things. I have no idea how much this is since its all coins but i'm assuming its a lot." Burt smiled.
Kurt got his bag and began putting as many coins into it as he could carry. Burt laughed.
"I don't think you'll need that much, son."
"But i just want to make sure." Kurt said, finishing loading his bag.

When they left Gringotts it was time for Kurt to start getting the things on his list. They went to Flourish & Blotts and got all of the books he needed, he wanted to stop and look through them all but his father made him continue to another shop. There was a boy, Kurt spotted and he was just something else. He was small and had dark hair, it looked like it was gelled but his curls were fighting it. He was really pretty, Kurt thought. He wanted to say hi but his father took him to get the rest of the things, so he only got to smile at him. They got the cauldron, Kurt was admiring the gold one and wanted to decorate it but his father had said no and got him the one that he was supposed to. They got crystal phials, a telescope and a set of brass scales. Kurt just needed to get his uniform fitted, get a wand and a pet. He was so excited about getting a pet. He desperately wanted a cat. Kurt dragged Burt to Madam Malkin's so he could check out the clothes and get fitted for his uniform, which he intended to make his own.

In Madam Malkin's, Kurt was on a stool getting fitted when he saw the pretty boy that he had seen not long ago entering the shop. His heart skipped and he smiled to himself. He was happy when the boy stood on a stool next to him, he could talk to him and make a real friend.
"Hi." The other boy smiled.
Kurt took a few seconds to find his voice and then he replied back. "Hey."
"I'm Blaine." The boy told him, he went to reach out his arm but the assistant tapped it back. Kurt bit his lip to stop himself from giggling. Blaine was such a lovely name.
"Kurt." He told Blaine. He wondered if they were going to the same school. "Hogwarts?"
"Yeah, you?"
He had heard about a couple of the houses from passing kids so he chose the one that sounded most interesting. "I'm hoping for Ravenclaw. How about you?"
"I really want to be a Ravenclaw too. My dad was one."
"Oh really? My dad is a muggle." Kurt replied.
"Oh. My mum was a Hufflepuff and my older brother was a Ravenclaw too. What about your mum?" Blaine asked.
"My mum was a Gryffindor, she was so brave and amazing." Kurt knew that one because his father had told him. It was the only house he had known about before this trip. He thought about his mother and smiled a little, trying to fight back tears. He missed his mother.
"Where's your dad?" Blaine asked.
"He's doing stuff."
The two boys kept talking until Kurt's robes were done, then he jumped off his stool and smiled at Blaine.
"I'll see you at school." Kurt waved at his new friend. "It was nice meeting you, Blaine. I hope we can be best friends."
"Me too." Blaine smiled before Kurt left.

Kurt found his father and dragged him to find a pet. He desperately wanted a cat. He had picked a name out already, one for a boy and one for a girl. Then he saw the kitten, grey, brown, black striped. She was beautiful.
"I want her." Kurt told his father. And that was the cat he got. If he got a boy, he was going to name him "McQueen" but he got a girl. "I name her Athena."
Kurt gave Athena to his father and he went inside Ollivander's.
"My god." Mr. Ollivander said as soon as he laid eyes on Kurt. "You're Elizabeth's boy."
"Yes sir, how did you know?" Kurt asked, stunned that he knew.
"She was interested in what i do, she said that she would like to do it one day." Mr. Ollivander told Kurt. "You look so much like her, she was so beautiful and talented."
"She was the best person in the world."
"You will do her proud." Mr. Ollivander told Kurt before starting to look for a wand for him. They tested out a few before finding the perfect one. "Eleven inches, pear wood, unicorn core and slightly unyielding."
"It's a beautiful wand sir, thank you."

Kurt kept his eye out for Blaine but he couldn't find him. He ended up taking his father to Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour and treated him to ice cream. He didn't see Blaine again while they were in Diagon Alley. Kurt was just excited about going to Hogwarts, he knew how incredible it would be.
