Kurt woke up early and excited, he jumped out of bed and got himself ready. He threw on his best clothes and went to wake his dad up. But to his surprise, his dad was already awake.
"Hey kiddo, i guessed you'd be up early so i thought i'd get up early so you didn't wake me." Burt grinned at his young son.
"I'm just really excited!" Kurt bounced around.
"I know! Go and have your breakfast and then we can leave." Burt told his son.
Kurt made sure to have a big breakfast and ran to the door, calling his dad to drive him. His dad laughed and unlocked the car, watching as his enthusiastic son jumped in the car and turned on the radio. Burt hadn't seen Kurt this excited in a long time. He had never been excited about a person before, sure he got excited about a fashion line or a television show but never a person. Kurt seemed to really like Blaine, Burt thought and he had never warmed to a person so fast before. Blaine was all Kurt would talk about. He used to talk about fashion or something that Burt didn't understand but now it was all about magic and Blaine. They waited at the train station for Blaine's train to pull up. Kurt held the letter from Blaine in his hand, constantly checking to make sure he had the right time. His train would be pulling up any minute now.
When the train pulled up, Kurt ran up to the windows trying to see where Blaine was. But a couple of minutes later the train left, so Kurt and his dad sat on a bench to see if Blaine was trying to find them and they waited there. They waited for ten minutes, there now being less people on the platform but there was no Blaine.
Burt watched as his son's good mood deflated. He felt really bad for him as the only friend he'd known Kurt to have, didn't show up. He didn't know why, maybe there was a good enough explanation. Maybe he missed his train. Maybe he forgot. Burt wrapped an arm around his son and led him back to the car where Kurt sat in silence. Burt tried to get him to talk but Kurt didn't answer. As soon as they got home, he watched as Kurt ran off to his bedroom and slammed the door. Burt sat down on the couch and sighed, leaning back and ran a hand over his hairless head, trying to think of ways to help his son.
Kurt was sat in his room, he was crying as he wrote Blaine a letter. He wanted to tell Blaine how sad he was that he didn't show up. The names that kids called him, the shoves and the hits didn't hurt as much as Blaine not showing up. Maybe Blaine just didn't want to be his friend anymore. That would make sense. Maybe he sensed that Kurt had a crush on Blaine. Maybe he was revolted by what Kurt might be. Either way, he didn't show. With the pencil in his hand he wrote a long letter.
Blaine,
I don't know why you didn't show up today but it upset me a lot. I thought we were best friends. What happened? Was it something i did? I went to the train station to get you and you weren't there, i waited ages. I hope that it was just a mistake and that maybe you were late and missed your train or that you forgot. I hope you are well. If i don't get a letter back then i know that you don't want us to be friends anymore...
The letter continued on and when Kurt finished it, he gave it to his owl who flew off and went to deliver it. He didn't expect a reply but he hoped for one. Blaine was his best friend in the whole world so he really hoped that he hadn't given up on Kurt. It wasn't just the fact that his best friend had forgotten him, it was also the boy that he had a crush on so it hurt that little bit more. Kurt was no longer denying that he had a crush on Blaine, but it was hard for him to accept what he was. He was gay, he was that fag that everyone called him. It was true. It was always true. He sat on his bed, his hands running over the scarf that Blaine had got him. It was beauitful and it suited him.
Kurt suddenly wasn't as excited about returning to Hogwarts. He was looking forward to the classes and the place itself but seeing Blaine, he wasn't as excited for as he was the day before. All Kurt could think about was why Blaine didn't show up. He constantly thought about what Karofsky had said to him before they went home.
"It's everything to be ashamed of! It's revolting and it makes everyone feel sick. If your friend knew what you were, he'd hate you and want nothing more to do with you. Maybe we should tell him what you are."
Kurt thought now that Blaine might've known, that could've been why he didn't come and see him. Maybe he knew and wanted nothing more to do with Kurt. Karofsky would be right. As much as Kurt wanted to believe that Karofsky was wrong, he still felt a bit scared that he might actually be right.
The following morning, Kurt was woken by a scratching sound, he had no idea what it was so he sat up and saw an owl at his window. It was his owl returning to him. He opened the window, unable to believe he was silly enough to close it knowing his owl was out, and let his bird in. That was when he saw the letter. He smiled and grabbed the letter, tearing it open and he began to read. He was worried that he would read the words that he had thought of but he hoped that his fears were wrong. That he and Blaine were still best friends.
