“Hey buddy.” Kurt heard a voice that distracted him; he moved his head towards the voice. He knew whose it was.
“Hi, dad.” Kurt smiled a little. It wasn’t who he wanted to visit him but he was the next best thing.
“How’re you doing today?” Burt asked, sitting down and patting Kurt’s leg gently. He hated seeing his son like this, he hated all the pain that he had suffered in his life. If he could take it all away then he would. Kurt was everything to him.
“The same. I can’t see but I did manage to find my way to the toilet and only falling over twice. Much better than yesterday.”
“That’s great kiddo. Getting there slowly.” Burt smiled even though Kurt couldn’t see it.
“Blaine knows.” Kurt said quietly, playing with the blanket on the bed.
“Oh? What’d he say?”
“Nothing! He ran away and didn’t contact me.”
“That’s not like him. It’s a lot to take in, he just needs space to think.”
“But that’s the thing. I hadn’t long found out and I needed him, I needed him to hug me and tell me that it’s going to be okay but he ran!”
“This has to be tough on him though. But maybe he can’t be in this relationship anymore, this might be too much. After all, he does have dreams and a future but that’s up to him. You still have a future Kurt, this won’t stop you. I know it won’t.”
“Hey Blainey, not visiting Kurt today?” Cooper asked, after walking into Blaine’s room without knocking. He knew it annoyed Blaine but Blaine hadn’t spoken much, he wanted a reaction.
“Supposed to knock.” Blaine mumbled. He had a thick book in his lap that he had been attempting to read but it didn’t help. It was a book about a man who had met the love of his life and she got sick. He had forgotten that he had been reading it and then he just picked it up out of habit before remembering.
“He speaks!” Cooper said, looking down at his brother with a worried look. “Decided what you’re going to do yet?”
Blaine shook his head and put the book down; he looked over at the picture of him and Kurt on his bedside table and sighed. They were so happy and in love, he would do anything to go back to that.
“You need to decide Blaine because life is about to get tough for him. He’ll need to learn everything again but in a new way.”
“I love him so much.” Blaine said quietly.
“I know and its because you love him that you need to decide what you want to do about this relationship. You can still be friends because he’s sounds like a good person; he’s worth keeping in your life.”
“I don’t want to leave him. I want to be with him and have an amazing future with him, no matter what.” Blaine closed the book and pushed it aside, running his fingers over the cover.
Blaine decided it was time to go back and see Kurt, they needed to talk about what they were going to do and school and other kinds of support. He was going to help Kurt and be there for him through this, no matter how long he was like this. He loved Kurt and that was the most important thing at the end of the day. He hadn’t slept well because he couldn’t stop thinking about Kurt and his future, whether it was with his love or not. He just couldn’t picture his future without Kurt. Kurt was the love of his life and they needed to be together, they were Kurt and Blaine.
“Hey!” Blaine said while smiling, walking into the hospital room and sat down in the chair next to the bed. “How’re you doing today?” He looked properly at Kurt and saw his face was tear stained which made him frown, there was something wrong. He wasn’t sure whether he was in pain or it was because he was blind or just for some other reason. “What is it?”
“I didn’t think you were ever coming back, not that I blame you.” Kurt sniffed, wiping the wetness from his cheeks.
“I’m sorry. It was a lot to take in and I needed some thinking space. I really am sorry.” Blaine reached over and tried to take one of Kurt’s hands but Kurt moved it.
“I’m letting you go.” He said quietly, fresh tears rolled down his soft, pale cheeks.
“What do you mean?” Blaine’s heart was racing in panic; he was so scared that he was saying what Blaine thought he was saying. “Kurt, what are you saying?”
“I’m not going to hold you back and you aren’t going to stop your future to take care of me. You deserve a life that’s happy and everything that you’ve always wanted. You never know, you might meet a guy who is perfect for you. I’m not perfect for you, I’ve been nothing but a problem and I’ve caused you so much pain. You deserve so much better than me. I know that I’ve had the only relationship I’m ever going to have and I’m so happy that it was with the love of my life. I’m a problem and I am a burden. I can’t keep you with me when I know that you want to go off and live your life. I love you so much but it’s unfair for you to stay with me. That’s why I’m letting you go. When you love someone, sometimes you have to let them go so I’m breaking up with you.”
