Blaine had fallen asleep on Kurt’s hand. He did go home and sleep there but he struggled because he was too worried about Kurt. It had been two weeks since Kurt had been beaten up and he was still in his coma. His face was looking a little better, every few days Burt would take a picture so he could see the progress his son was making. After Warbler practice and school, Blaine would spend the rest of his day here, weekends he would be here all day. He missed Kurt, his voice, eyes, face, smile, just every little thing. The police had found who had done this to Kurt; it was a group of jocks from McKinley. It was a gay bashing.
There was a hand on Blaine’s back which made him wake up and look up, he saw Burt and Carole smiling down at him. Burt had been out of hospital about a week now but he spent a lot of time there.
“They want to wake him up today.” Burt smiled, pretty excited to see his son but also worried that things might not go well. Kurt could breathe on his own again now and they said that the chance of him having brain damage was quite slim so they wanted to wake him up.
Blaine smiled and looked down at Kurt again. “Really? He’s going to be okay? He’ll wake up?”
“Yes sweetheart, he’ll wake up and he’ll be okay. But they said that it might take a few hours for him to actually wake up and they also said that he might panic.” Carole said, rubbing Blaine’s shoulder.
“I’ll be here, I won’t go anywhere. I want to be here when he wakes up.” Blaine was excited now, he was getting his boyfriend back and he would promise never to lose him again. “When are they going to do it?”
“They’re coming in in a minute.” Burt smiled.

Five hours after being woken up, Kurt’s eyes opened for the first time in two weeks. He didn’t know what was happening, what had happened, where he was but what he did know was that he was scared and in pain. He tried to form words but they couldn’t quite get out right now. He tried moving but he couldn’t move much, everything either ached or hurt. He panicked and used his good hand to try to pull the wires and tubes from himself.
“Hey, hey, calm down. It’s okay.” A calming voice said to him, taking the hand that was trying to pull the wires and tubes away. He looked up and saw a blurry figure, dark hair was what he mostly saw and the voice was so smooth and sweet. “It’s okay, you’re okay.”
“Wh-who? Wh-what?” Kurt managed to get out, his voice raspy and throat dry. Before he knew it, there was a cup of water being held to his lips and he drank like he hadn’t ever before.
“At least we know he can talk.” Carole said to Burt reassuringly.
“It’s your dad Kurt, your dad, Carole and Blaine.” Burt patted Kurt’s good knee to show he was there.
“Bl-Bl-Blaine?” That’s who the dark haired figure was, his vision was improving and he could see outlines better now.
“Yeah, it’s me. I’m right here.” Blaine squeezed Kurt’s hand.
“D-dad-daddy?” Kurt looked around for his dad, his vision focusing and seeing him a little better. Burt squeezed Kurt’s knee to let him know that’s where he was.
The nurse came in before Kurt could locate Carole, she shone a little light in his eyes to see how well he could see them, she made him drink water and done a few other little tests while she was there. “Good news Mr. Hummel,” She said talking to Burt. “It’s pretty clear that your son doesn’t have any brain damage or any lasting damage.”
“Bra-brai-brain?” Kurt got out, looking even more confused and scared. What had happened? Where was he? Why was he there? Who was flashing that light in his eye? Was he in hospital?
“Do you want me to explain what happened?” Blaine asked Burt who nodded and decided to go outside with the nurse. Carole stood by the wall and looked between Burt and Blaine.
“Wh-w-what hap...?” Kurt couldn’t finish, trying to get the words back after not being able to speak for two weeks was hard.
“You were attacked Kurt. You were in the car park when jocks from McKinley attacked you, they beat you so badly, you were... you were unrecogniseable. You stopped breathing once and they had to take you to surgery to stop a bleeding and they had to put you in a coma so your brain could recover. It had swollen a little because of the pressure on it. You’ve been out for two weeks.”

Kurt’s face was shocked, two weeks?! He had been out for two weeks?! Oh god. He went to speak but Blaine made a hushing sound.
“Your dad woke up just as you were brought in, but he wasn’t able to see you for a few days. I wasn’t allowed in for a while because well... They knew that I’m your boyfriend and they don’t approve of it. I knew because they’d let your New Direction friends in but not me. I wanted to see you so badly, I just came in in the end, not wanting to look at you through the window anymore. I wanted to be here and hold your hand, talk to you and tell you that I missed you and that I love you.”
Kurt managed to smile and squeeze back a little on Blaine’s hand. “I l-love y-you too. Can y-you lay... lie... bes-beside m-me?”
Blaine smiled and nodded, thankfully there was the tiniest bit of room next to Kurt. He slid on the bed and carefully wrapped his arm around Kurt. “Hi.” He smiled more when he was comfortable.
“Hi.” Kurt smiled back. “My t-talkin-talking isn’t v-very go-good.”
“Hey, it’s fine. You don’t have to talk if you don’t want to or if you want to save your voice.”
“I w-want to.”
