“God, if there is one. Please, please don’t take my dad from me, please. I need my dad, I need him and I can’t lose him. I know I don’t pray and don’t believe in you but it’s worth a shot, it’s the only thing I didn’t try last time and maybe, just maybe it might have worked. He’s my dad, he’s my world and I need him. Please don’t take my daddy away from me.” Kurt cried, his hands falling into folded arms and his head rested against them as he cried into it.
Blaine got out of his seat and sat next to Kurt on the floor, wrapping an arm around him and began rubbing his back soothingly. Things were going so badly for Kurt, with everything with Karofsky and then all the Dalton stuff, him and now his dad, he was worried about Kurt’s state of mind. He didn’t know where Kurt’s stepmother was either and knew that Finn was staying at Puck’s late tonight and probably couldn’t hear his phone over the sound of video games. Blaine’s own phone began to ring, he sighed and looked at the caller ID, Wes, what did he want?
“Wes, it’s really not a good time.” Blaine sighed.
“You have to get back here, the doors are getting locked really soon and you won’t be able to get in and if you don’t come back you’ll be in serious trouble.” Wes said down the phone to his friend.
“I can’t, Kurt needs me, he’s....” Blaine started.
“Go.” Kurt said quietly, looking up at Blaine. “You need to get home. I don’t want you in trouble.”
“But you need me.” Blaine replied, feeling torn about what to do.
“I need some time alone and you need to go home, I’ll be okay.” Kurt said as more tears ran down his pale cheeks.
“Call me if you need me and i’ll come.” Blaine leaned down and kissed Kurt’s head.
Kurt nodded and watched as Blaine went, waiting for the doctors to come out and tell him if his dad was alive or not. He had to cope alone this time, last time he had Mr Schuester and Miss Pillsbury here but not this time, he didn’t even have Carole.
“Hey Blaine, glad you made it back in time.” Wes smiled as he patted Blaine’s shoulder, his smile slipped when he noticed that something was wrong. “Hey what’s up?”
“Kurt’s dad... He erm... He had a heart attack, another one.” Blaine sighed.
“Oh shit...” Wes was stunned. “Is he...?”
“He was, they resuscitated him but we don’t know anything yet.” Blaine sat down on the couch in the common room; he was worried about Kurt and Burt.
“How’s Kurt?” Wes asked as he sat down next to Blaine.
“He’s not coping, he’s had so much going on lately, I don’t know how he’s going to get through this. I know he’s strong but I don’t know. After everything here and with me, he had to put up with that and then he was being bullied and beaten at his school by his bully. His bully locked him in a cupboard and he was in there for six hours, I don’t even know what he did about his bladder.” Blaine watched as Wes’ jaw dropped. “Yeah... He’s got so much crap going on right now. And I can’t be there for him; I’ve got to be here because of a stupid curfew.”
“Does he have anyone with him now?” Wes asked, not able to believe what had happened to Kurt.
“No, his step mother isn’t even answering.”
Morning came and Kurt was asleep on the floor, his head resting on the chair, he had been asleep only half an hour. The doctor came and saw him during the night, told him what was happening and what they could do, which wasn’t a lot. Suddenly the doors burst open and Carole ran in, Kurt woke up and looked at her.
“Kurt, what happened?” Carole asked, looking down at her step son.
“He had a heart attack brought on by stress.” Kurt told her. The stress, the doctor said, had built up over the last few weeks and everything in the past few weeks had happened to him, all the bad stuff he had told his dad had caused his heart attack. “They said he might not wake up and that he was very lucky to get here when he did otherwise he wouldn’t be here at all. He stopped breathing at home.”
“Oh honey...” Carole hugged Kurt tight, she wasn’t ready to lose Burt and she knew that Kurt definitely couldn’t lose him. She would have to take him in but he wouldn’t be the same, there would always be that part of him missing, Burt. “Tell me what happened.”
Kurt wiped his eyes and crawled up onto the chair. “Blaine had taken me home because he was worried about me and wanted to make sure I had got back okay and we needed to tell dad about... about Karofsky bullying me again...”
“He’s bullying you? What’s he doing this time? He isn’t hitting you is he?” Carole asked, knowing the answer from Kurt’s silence. “Oh Kurt.”
“He had been hitting me and kicking me and slamming me into lockers and he locked me in a cupboard for six hours.” Carole’s face was stunned, how could someone do that to Kurt? That was horrible! “Blaine and I told dad and then he just collapsed, he was in pain and I couldn’t do a thing. This is all my fault, if I didn’t say anything then this wouldn’t be happening.”
“Kurt, sweetheart this isn’t your fault. He’s been worried about you for a while...”
“Yes exactly, he’s been worried about me, if he didn’t worry then he wouldn’t be here! This is my fault, if he dies...”
“He’s not going to die Kurt, he’s not. He’s too strong and he’ll fight.”
“I could never live with myself if he died because of me.”
