“Hey there.” Blaine smiled a little down at his son, leaning down to kiss his head.
“Morning Papa, you look sleepy.” Andrew said wrapping his arms around his Papa and hugging him, Blaine hugged him back with his one free arm.
“I’m fine.” Blaine lied, he was far from fine and he knew it but he couldn’t let on to Andrew that he wasn’t. Today he was going to try and re-explain why Kurt wasn’t coming home, that he was dead.
“Blaine?” Blaine heard a tearful cry down the phone, he didn’t know what had happened but he instantly wanted to know and help. He himself was coming out of Warbler practice when he heard his phone ring, he didn’t expect a call from Kurt but he instantly answered it.
“Kurt what’s wrong?” He asked his voice full of calmness and comfort.
“H-he threatened me.”
“What did he threaten to do?”
“He thr-threatened to... kill me...”
Blaine’s blood began to boil, he was so angry and wished so badly he could go over there and help him but he couldn’t, his curfew was soon and he couldn’t get in trouble again. He just wanted to wrap Kurt up in his arms, this need to protect him and keep him safe.
“He what?” Blaine wanted to make sure he heard right, he was fuming.
“He threatened to kill me if I told anyone else about the kiss. I don’t know what to do Blaine, I’m scared.” Kurt cried heavily down the phone, Blaine didn’t know where he was he wasn’t sure whether he was home or not, he hoped he was somewhere safe.
“Oh god Kurt, I didn’t think it would get to that. You need to tell someone.”
“I can’t, he said he’d kill me and I do want to live to see my Broadway dream come true.”
They spoke for ages about what Kurt could do about Karofsky and eventually Kurt’s dad Burt found out. Which then resulted in Kurt being transferred to Dalton, where he struggled to fit in but over time he began to get there. They started growing closer to each other and deep deep down Blaine was getting feelings for Kurt but he just didn’t know it.
“I miss daddy.” Andrew said sadly snapping Blaine out of his vision.
“I know, I do too.”
“Where is he? Why won’t he be coming home?”
“Its time to wake up your sister, I’ll explain everything.” Blaine shook the little girl in his other arm, watching as she slowly woke up and yawned sleepily.
“Liz’beth, Papa is going to tell us where Daddy is.” Andrew wasn’t sure whether to be excited or not.
“Daddy!” Elizabeth smiled excitedly.
Blaine’s face completely dropped, his children were so excited about Kurt and now he was about to ruin it and tell them the devastating news.
“How do I begin...” Blaine started, his eyes welling with tears as he thought of the best way to tell them, then Harry Potter came into his head. The kids loved Harry Potter and thinking of Lily and James may help him explain, thank god for Harry Potter. “Okay... Remember in the Harry Potter books we read, how Harry doesn’t have a mummy or daddy?” He watched his children nod. “And you know what happened to them right?”
“Yeah, they died and went to heaven.” Andrew said proudly thinking about how he got the question right.
“Well, Lily and James died to save Harry.” A few tears rolled out of Blaine’s eyes thinking about how Kurt saved him.
“Blaine!”
Smash!
Blaine shook his head trying to get rid of the sounds that were in his head, he didn’t want to hear it, he just had to tell his children what was going on. “Daddy... your precious daddy... he’s...” More tears rolled out of Blaine’s eyes, crying a flood of tears.
“He’s what Papa?” Elizabeth asked now very worried that her Papa was crying.
“He’s... dead. He died and now he’s up there with the angels, with Lily and James.”
The two children looked at their Papa in shock, they couldn’t believe what they were hearing. No their Daddy wasn’t dead, he can’t be. They started crying and struggling to take what they were hearing.
“No! Daddy isn’t dead! Stop lying!” Andrew shouted as he jumped down from the sofa and ran up to his room.
“Andrew!” Blaine called after him, he looked down at the crying girl in his arm. He picked her up and followed the boy upstairs, he pushed open the door and saw the little boy curled up on his bed. His heart broke as he saw the boy crying and there was nothing he could do or say to make him feel better. Elizabeth jumped down out of Blaine’s arms and ran to the bed, climbing on and hugging her brother. Blaine knew that if they knew what happened, they’d blame him because it was his fault, it was his fault that Kurt died. If he hadn’t had stepped out into the road then Kurt wouldn’t have died.
“Andrew, I’m not lying. I was there when he died. I’m so sorry baby.” Blaine stepped closer to his son, just wanting to cuddle him.
“You killed Daddy.” Andrew muttered not looking at Blaine, but the words hurt him so much.
“No, no I didn’t. I didn’t kill him, I wouldn’t.” Blaine was shaking and trying to keep himself together but each second he was breaking more and more. He backed out of the room and closed the door, he took his phone out of his pocket and called Burt.
“Burt?” Blaine cried down the phone.
“Blaine, I would ask how you are but clearly its not good.”
“I told them, they hate me. Andrew things I killed him, it hurts to see them like this. I don’t know what to do.”
“Some kids handle it in different ways, give Andrew time. What did you tell them?”
“I started talking to them about Harry Potter and said that Kurt is like Harry’s parents and he’s where they are.”
“Right, okay. Do you want us to take them for the day?”
“No, no you’ve got enough to deal with right now, I’m going to call my parents. They’ll gladly take them while I call round and start organising the funeral.”

reading about blaine trying to tell andrew and elizabeth about kurt's death is so hard to read. emotionally and also because i had tears filling my eyes and threatening to fall. i think it was a brilliant idea to put the idea of kurt's into a context that the kids could understand–the deaths of harry's parents. the kids might not have understood the concept of death, but they understood what had happened to lily and james. explaining kurt's death this way was a stroke of genius. i am sooooooo looking forward to reading this.
