Karofsky was standing outside the house watching to make sure no one went inside. He took his eyes off of the house for a minute or so but when he turned round he was stunned to see a car outside. He froze for a moment when he realised that Kurt could be inside. He couldn't let Kurt die and he needed to find out if it was him. When he heard the first explosion his heart felt like it had stopped but when the second one happened he couldn't stop himself from running inside. He ran and found his way to the burning basement. He saw the damage he had done and hoped that Kurt wasn't down there.
"Kurt!" He shouted but there was no reply. He decided to go down there and search. He got down there and saw that Blaine wasn't alone and that there was someone standing over a person on the ground. They were sobbing and shaking the other person.
"Kurt..." Karofsky grabbed Kurt's arm, he was the one shaking Blaine and begging for him to wake up.
"Help him! Please!" Kurt begged. "Help him!"
As much as Karofsky wanted to leave Blaine to die, he couldn't. Hearing Kurt so heartbroken and desperate broke his own heart. He had to help him. He picked Blaine up and looked down at Kurt.
"Come on!" Karofsky shouted.
"I can't! I've hurt my leg, i can't walk. Just get Blaine out of here and make sure he's safe." Kurt said tearfully. Karofsky knew that Kurt thought he was going to die, but he wasn't going to let that happen.
"I'll come back for you, i promise." Karofsky said before carrying Blaine out of the basement. He fought the flames and the pain in his body and took Blaine out of the house. Outside there were neighbours standing around looking at the house.
"We've called the fire department and an ambulance." One of them informed Karofsky.
"You did very well getting this boy out, is there anyone else in there?" An elderly woman asked.
"Yeah Kurt, i promised to get him." Karofsky told them.
"You can't!" One of the women grabbed his arm but he shrugged them off and ran back inside. He needed to get to Kurt before it was too late.

Kurt had watched Karofsky take Blaine to safety and he felt better, not having to worry about Blaine so much. He hurt his ankle when the explosion knocked him and Blaine back and he couldn't walk on it. But he knew it was too late for him, he was going to die for sure and he knew it. Karofsky saved Blaine and that's what was important. He did repeatedly try and escape but his ankle prevented him from getting past the flames. He lay down and pulled the blanket over him, finally giving up as he knew that all hope of him escaping was lost. It felt like hours had gone by when he saw Karofsky crouching down in front of him. He really did come back. Karofsky scooped Kurt up into his arms and they both walked towards the stairs. Karofsky started walking up them but they started to break.

Blaine woke up later that day to see that he was back in hospital. He took a minute before remembering what happened and he tried to sit up but a hand pushed him down.
"Hey sweetie, calm down." Blaine saw that it was his mother.
"Where's Kurt?" Blaine asked, his voice sounded rough and it hurt to speak. He grew worried when his mother didn't answer him. "Is he dead?"
"Honey, they found a dead body in the basement. I don't know who it was." She told him.
Blaine gasped and started at his mother with tear filled eyed. "It was only me and Kurt down there." He began crying and unable to stop. Kurt was dead. His beautiful Kurt had died in the fire and he was never going to see him again.
"How did I get out?" He asked.
"Someone went in and got you out, they went back for Kurt but one of them never made it out. If Kurt was stuck in the basement then... I'm so sorry honey."
Blaine lay in the bed crying so hard with his hands over his face. His hand was bandaged and hurting a little but he ignored it. He had lost his love, the pain in his hand didn't hurt even half as much as his heart did.
"I need you to call the police and tell them that Karofsky set the fire. He was stalking me and he wanted me dead." Blaine told his mother. "Can you get hold of Burt for me?"
His mother nodded and left the room, doing exactly as her son had asked. She went to the police that were waiting outside and the police told her that they would question Blaine themselves. After doing that, she went to find Burt. He was in the hospital himself, he was sat in the hallways staring into space.
"Burt? Blaine wants to see you." She told him.
"He's awake? is he okay?"
"He thinks Kurt's dead, he's distraught."
Burt hurried to Blaine's room and saw that he was crying hard and calling Kurt's name.
"Blaine?" Burt stood in the doorway, looking at a distraught Blaine. "How are you doing?"
"I'm so sorry Burt! I'm sorry i couldn't save him. I am so sorry!" Blaine cried.
"What on earth are you talking about? Kurt didn't die." Burt told him.
Blaine stopped crying and looked at Burt, he felt a whole ton life from his body and he started breathing better. He stared at Burt, waiting for him to explain what he meant. Kurt wasn't dead? He was alive? Blaine wanted to cry from happiness just hearing that, he didn't know how to go on without Kurt.
"What?"
"Kurt didn't die. Kurt made sure you got out first, he saved you."
"I don't understand, if Kurt didn't die, then who did?"
"Karofsky."
