“Stay still Kurt, you’ll tear your stitches.” The nurse said as she tried to restrain him.
“He’s alive. Son, please calm down, he’s alive and he’ll be okay. He wants you to rest and get better.” Burt told his son.
“He’s alive? Can I see him?”
“No, you just came out of surgery and you need to rest.”
“Surgery? What happened? Why did I have surgery?”
“You and Blaine were in an accident, a guy on drugs drove into you and it flipped the car over. The guy and the driver of your taxi died but you and Blaine are the only survivors. He woke up after the accident and asked someone to help you because you were hurt.” Kurt choked and cried hearing that as Burt continued talking. “The ambulance and fire department came and cut you, Blaine and the driver out before bringing you both here. You were both unconscious when you came here and you had a large bit of glass in your side that was doing damage to your organs so that’s why you had the surgery, to remove the glass and repair the damage. Blaine however, he has some problems with his spine and they need to do more tests.”
“His spine? Is he going to be able to walk?”
“They don’t know yet. He’s going for scans and tests now and they’ll find out. He’ll be okay.” Burt gently pushed Kurt down so he was lying back in bed. “You both come out of this and you can marry whenever you want.”
“Is he going to die?”
That Burt didn’t know. There was a chance that he could die, but what Burt hadn’t told Kurt or anyone else because he knows it would kill Kurt was that when the crash happened, he was told that Blaine was leaning over Kurt. Blaine had saved Kurt from dying or having anymore injuries and if he told Kurt then he’d be so upset.
“He is, isn’t he?” Kurt asked again when his father failed to answer.
“We don’t know.” He said honestly. “He’s not in very good shape, buddy.”
“What’s wrong with him?”
Burt took a deep breath before answering. “There’s something wrong with his spine and he might not be able to walk.”
“No!” Kurt cried hard, making Burt sit on the edge of the bed and pull his son into his arms.
Blaine was bought back from his tests and was put back on all the machines and wires that he needed to be on. Carole stayed with him and held his hand or stroked his hair; she remembered when Kurt was like this and how Blaine was. She didn’t know that Kurt was awake but she had an idea of what he’d be like. Things were going to be very different now, especially if Blaine’s spine was as bad as they thought it was. He might end up in a wheelchair forever and then Kurt would have to take care of him that would be especially hard for an eighteen year old boy. Of course Carole and Burt would offer as much support as they could but that might mean them both coming back to Lima, which she knew they would both hate. The doctors were getting the results from the tests when a woman came bursting through the doors. She had dark hair and was Asian. Mrs. Anderson.
“Oh my baby!” The woman cried as she ran to Blaine’s side. “What the hell happened?”
“Car accident with Kurt, some guy on drugs drove into their taxi. Blaine might have a damaged spine and might never walk again...”
The doctor walked into the room with a folder in his hands and some scans in amongst all the stuff. “The tests are back on Blaine’s spine and it seems that there’s a fracture in it. It means that he’ll be in a wheelchair for a while and have to wear a brace; it also means that he’ll have to learn to walk again.” The doctor said, hearing both women breathe a sigh of relief.
“So he’ll be okay?”
“That’s not all that’s wrong with him. There’s some head damage too so we’ll have to keep an eye on that. He’ll be put onto some strong medication and be kept under for a little while so the swelling can go down. Once he wakes up, he’ll be here for a little while and once he’s released he’ll have to come back for physiotherapy. But we’re pretty sure with the right treatment he’ll make a full recovery.”
“Oh thank you doctor!” Mrs. Anderson cried and flung herself at him, crying into his shoulder. He looked really awkward and patted her back.
“I’ll go see how Kurt’s doing and let my husband know how Blaine is.” Carole got up and went to leave the room; her arm was grabbed by the doorway. She turned and saw Blaine’s mother looking at her.
“Thank you.” She smiled weakly before hugging Carole too.
When Carole broke away from Mrs. Anderson, she went to Kurt’s room and she was surprised to see Kurt awake.
“Hey honey, how’re you feeling?” Carole smiled at her stepson.
“Is Blaine okay?” Kurt asked instantly after Carole spoke.
“Yes he will be. The doctor came back with his test results and he’ll be okay eventually. He said that Blaine’ll make a full recovery over time; he’ll be in a wheelchair for a while and eventually his spine will heal with help of physiotherapy. His mother is here and is with him now to take care of him so we can both focus on you.” Carole sat on the other side of Kurt.
“I want to see him.” Kurt demanded.
