Author's Notes: Some Kid!Klaine
Growing up the two boys became best friends, just like their mothers and fathers. They did everything together; to the parents it was quite shocking how much they did together. They walked together and started talking together. But there was a time when Burt knew that he wasn’t going to get the son that he had always wanted; he was going to get a very different and very special son.

“Blainey! Look, dresses!” A three year old Kurt giggled as he went through his mother’s clothes, picking out the pretty flower printed dresses and pretty high heels. With Blaine’s help, Kurt put them on and twirled in front of the mirror. “I look like a princess.”
“A pretty princess.” Blaine added with a grin.
“I need a crown. Prince Blaine, I need my crown.”
And Blaine ran downstairs to find their crowns, rummaging through Kurt’s toy boxes.
“Where’s the fire, son?” Burt asked Blaine.
“I need the crowns. Kurtie’s a pretty princess and I am his prince, I need the crowns if I am to marry him.” Blaine asked, still going through the boxes.
Burt knew exactly where they were and took Blaine’s hand and led them upstairs and into Kurt’s room, where in the corner of the room was a little table that Kurt had made to look like a vanity. He picked the crown and tiara from the table and handed them to Blaine, who ran off excitedly.
“Kurtie, look I found them!” Blaine showed Kurt who light up.
“Yay! Let’s go show our mummy’s and daddy’s.” Blaine rushed again but Kurt was struggling to walk around in the big shoes and the long dresses which covered his feet. Blaine noticed that Kurt was way behind so he put the tiara and crown on his arm and helped Kurt down the stairs. When they got to the bottom of the stairs, Blaine put Kurt’s tiara on and Kurt put Blaine’s crown on. They held hands and walked to where their parents were.
“Wow look at you.” Liz grinned, not even slightly mad that Kurt had raided her closet.
“I am the princess-“
“Pretty princess.” Blaine added again.
“Thank you Blainey. I am the pretty princess and Blainey is the handsome prince.”
“And we’re getting married.” Blaine took Kurt’s hands and they swayed together to show some sort of wedding dance which they thought made everything official. Gasps were heard all around the room when Kurt put his hands on Blaine’s face and kissed him. Mark was uncomfortable at that and stood up.
“I’m going home, I have notes that I need to type up from yesterday’s meeting.” He mumbled and left the room.
“What was that about?” Liz asked Dianna who looked sad. The two children had already ran off to start their next game – creating weddings for their power rangers.
“Mark isn’t too comfortable around homosexuals, he doesn’t approve of them.” Dianna sighed, worried about how her friends will take it.
“So he doesn’t approve of our son, if that’s what he is?” Liz stiffened.
“I don’t know Liz. I’m perfectly okay with it but Mark doesn’t like them. I’m sorry.” Dianna sniffed, wiping her eyes.

When the boys started school for the first time, they were put in the same classes and always partnered up for projects. They loved making things together, especially the big art projects. They had to make big solar system so with the help of their mothers, since their fathers were working, they began making it.
“Blaine, I need you to carefully pour some blue paint into this pot. Think you can do that?” Dianna asked her son.
Blaine nodded and picked up the bottle of blue paint, holding it over the pot and making a face of extreme concentration that made Kurt laugh.
“Blainey, you look funny!” Kurt giggled, which made Blaine stick his tongue out at Kurt.
Blaine carefully poured the blue paint in the pot, looking at Kurt with so much pride when he was done. Kurt clapped with the largest smile which only made Blaine smile more. Kurt had a beautiful smile as well as beautiful eyes that sparkled when he smiled and was happy; they also twinkled when he cried.
“Well done!” His mother smiled, kissing his head. “Right, can you paint this ball in the areas that say blue?”
Blaine nodded and began painting with the same extra concentrated face which Kurt thought, made him look like he needed to poop.
“Kurt honey, can you put some green paint in this pot for me?” Liz asked, handing Kurt the second pot. Kurt accidentally knocked over the pot, paint spilling all over the newspaper that they had put down. His eyes went sad and he looked like he was going to cry. “Hey honey, its okay. Can you help me clean it up?”
Kurt stood up and got a cloth, taking it back to the spilt paint and started cleaning it. Blaine smiled at him which made Kurt smile and the tears disappear. Blaine had that magic power; he could make Kurt stop crying and feel better so much easier.
“Let’s try it again.” Liz smiled, holding the pot still while Kurt poured the paint into it, clapping when he did it successfully. “Well done!”
“Well done Kurtie!” Blaine beamed, clapping with Liz and Dianna and Kurt’s success.

Blaine was looking for Kurt at their break time, he went to go and get his apple from his bag. When he came back he couldn’t find him, it made him sad. He started looking for him when he saw a group of people in the corner of the playground, there was someone small in the middle of the crowd. He ran over to see what the problem was when he saw Kurt. Kurt was the boy in the middle.
“You sound like a girl.” One kid said.
“He dresses like one too.” A girl giggled.
“Where’s your doll, girly?”
“Look at the pretty bow he’s wearing!”
“My mummy said not to get too close, he might touch you.”
“Does he have a disease?”
“Yeah!”
Blaine bent down and put his hand on Kurt’s face to see if he was okay, he held his hand and helped him up, looking at the other people with anger.
“He’s my best friend. He’s not sick and he’s not a girl. He’s Kurt and he’s the best person ever, much better than you losers.” He said, taking Kurt away from the mean people. He saw that Kurt was crying and stopped. He went into his pocket and pulled out a tissue, he handed it to Kurt who wiped his eyes.
“Those people are just mean, don’t worry Kurt. I still love you.” Blaine smiled and skipped away with Kurt.

But then came that day when everything changed for the Hummel’s. No one saw it coming but when it did, it came with a bang. The boys were at school in their reading groups when the headmistress came in, looking really sad. Their teacher went over to her and spoke in a whisper; she too started to look sad. No one knew why, all they knew is that it was about Kurt because they were looking at him.
“Kurt, your dad is waiting for you outside. You have to go home.” His teacher said, her voice was sad too. She helped get Kurt’s coat on and get his bag together before giving him to the headmistress.
“Why am I going home? I don’t have the dentist until tomorrow.”
The teacher didn’t know what to say, she just led Kurt in silence outside to where his dad was. Kurt noticed that his dad looked upset; his eyes were red and puffy.
“Daddy?” Kurt looked up at him with big eyes that Burt couldn’t look directly in.
“Get in the car, Kurt. We have to go to the hospital.” Burt opened the car door and Kurt climbed in, buckling himself in.
“Why are we going to the hospital?” Kurt asked, when Burt started driving.
“Your mum had an accident. She’s not very well.” Burt said, his eyes welling up and he was trying not to cry in front of his son.
“Is mummy okay?”
“I don’t know. That’s why we’re going so we can see.”

Burt drove him and his son to the hospital, going to the right floor where they found a woman, who they didn’t recognise, covered in wires. The tag on her wrist told them that this was Elizabeth Hummel, Kurt’s mother and Burt’s wife.
“Mummy?” Kurt leaned over the bed, stroking his mother’s hair gently. “Wake up, mummy.”
The doctor came in and spoke to Burt, Kurt turned around and watched his father cry. He didn’t know what was going on and it frightened him.
“Kurt, this is going to be the last time you see your mum. So say goodbye.” Burt cried.
“But she’s sleeping, she’ll wake up soon. Blaine’s coming over later and we’re going to play restaurant with mummy.”
“No Kurt, no restaurant. Your mummy isn’t coming home or waking up, she’s going to be sleeping forever. She’s dead Kurt.”
Kurt’s eyes filled with tears and they ran down his cheek. “No! Mummy isn’t dead! She’s sleeping.” He started shaking his mother’s shoulders. “Please mummy. Wake up! Wake up!”
Burt was crying more, it was heartbreaking to see his son like this. He wrapped his arms around Kurt and picked him up, Kurt was screaming and kicking and wouldn’t stop fighting. If Burt’s heart wasn’t already smashed, it would have been now. He hugged Kurt tight and the two Hummel men cried.

“Blaine? Can you come down here please?” Dianna called upstairs to her son, who came running down with a big, excited grin. He had just finished applying his hair gel, the many layers that kept his curls down.
“Am I going to see Kurt now?” Blaine asked excitedly, clutching his bag of play food in his hands.
“No honey, you’re not going to see Kurt today.” Dianna said, leading Blaine to the couch.
“Why? You promised!” Blaine pouted, his eyes huge and puppy like.
“Blaine, something happened and you can’t go now.”
“What’s happened?”
“It’s Kurt’s mummy. She had an accident.”
“Is she okay?”
Dianna didn’t know what to say, she could only imagine how hard it was to tell your own son that his mother died but now she was telling her own son that his best friend’s mum died. Her best friend died. “No darling, she’s not okay. She died.”
“Died? But she can’t. She has Kurt and Burt. She promised to play restaurant with us.”
“I’m sorry sweetie. No restaurant with Kurt today, he’s upset about his mummy.”
“Can I see him? I want to give him a hug.”
“Oh honey, I think he might be a bit upset to see you right now.”
“Please? Can I try?”
Dianna sighed and nodded. She took Blaine’s hand and led him next door to see his best friend. She knocked on the door. It took a while for there to be an answer but when there was, she saw Burt with very tired eyes, they were red and puffy and tear stained.
“Blaine wants to see how Kurt’s doing.” Dianna said.

Kurt heard Blaine’s name and came to the door, he looked worse than what Burt did. His usual happy eyes were now sad and lost. Dianna’s heart broke for the eight year old boy. Blaine stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Kurt tight.
“You can share my mummy if you want to.” Blaine said, still hugging Kurt. He could feel Kurt hugging Blaine even tighter than how he was holding Kurt.
Dianna couldn’t have been more proud of Blaine than at that moment, he was so sweet and offering his mum to be Kurt’s too. She would never replace Elizabeth in Kurt’s life but she would be something to Kurt, the woman in his life. If Kurt needed anything, she would be the woman he could come to.
