Kurt looked up to see what Blaine had decorated on his, a scared face and a guitar. He finished his mouthful before he spoke. “What’s with the scared face?” he asked then took another bite.
“The toast is afraid. I am eating it of course.” Blaine smiled as he took another bite. “I don’t know about you, but I think I would have a scared face on if a random dorky giant with an afro of curls is eating me for breakfast.”
Kurt had to put down the toast he was holding and almost choked on the bit in his mouth, he tried to contain the laughter. He managed to swallow and the burst out into a fit of giggles.
Blaine smiled as he watched Kurt giggle. There we go, a laugh. “Now your toast must be pretty morbid. It seems happy that it is being devoured by an adorable giant of its own. See? Look at it, just smiling up at you. I would definitely not be smiling if I had a few bites taken out of my side.”
Listening to Blaine talk only made him giggle more, he couldn’t stop it just kept coming. “Can’t… breathe” he laughed. His face began going red, he put his hands to his face and put his head on the table still laughing.
Blaine started to laugh as Kurt was going crazy. It wasn’t that funny, was it? Blaine wondered, standing up and walking over behind Kurt. He patted his back, not sure how else to cure a case of the giggles. “You okay there?” Blaine asked, patting Kurt’s back still.
Kurt managed to control himself only just. He looked up and nodded. “Yeah i’m okay.” he said catching his breath. He picked up his toast and resumed eating it. “You make the best toast… ever.”
“It’s not THAT good. All it is is bread and butter. You made lasagna last night, how do I compete with that?” Blaine went back over to his seat and finished munching on the scared piece of toast. Once it was gone he picked up the one with a guitar on it and held it up for Kurt to see. “Not sure I want to eat this one…. I love guitars too much.”
“Well you will once i teach you how to cook.” he smiled. He laughed at the guitar on the toast and what Blaine said. “Not sure i want to eat this one…If i eat it, i’m breaking a heart.” he pointed to the one with the heart on.
“Not really breaking a heart…… more like eating one.” Blaine teased, deciding to take a bite out of his guitar toast. He watched as Kurt looked down at the piece of toast he still needed to eat. “What are you thinking about?”
Kurt looked up from the toast. “How much i love you, how my dad will react, how your parents will react, that kind of stuff.” he shrugged. He picked up the toast and took a bite from it.
Blaine looked over at Kurt and grinned at him. “Your dad is going to react probably like he did when he asked to see the ring. He gave me a hug and told me ‘welcome to the family’, and I hadn’t even asked you to marry me yet.”
Kurt almost dropped the toast. “What? He… oh my god. He said that? Wow he must like you. He knew i’d say yes.” his face was shocked but his words came out in almost a laugh.
Blaine laughed. “Yeah, he said that. And gave me a hug. I was almost as surprised as you are.” He watched as Kurt looked shocked but still laughed. “It seems like everyone knew you were going to say yes. Burt, Carole said you would, so did Reed. I was the only one who had doubts and that feeling that you were going to say no.” Blaine looked down and fiddled with his toast, remembering his nervousness about the whole deal.
“Why did you have doubts? I’d already told you that i’d be an idiot to say no.” he asked curiously. “Its all we talked about, us getting married.”
“I know. The nerves and the doubt just sneak up on a person when they think about asking a question as big as that. ‘What if they think it’s too soon? What if we need more time? What if they realize how stupid they were for considering it and run?’ Questions like that.”
“Oh you’re such a silly thing, you know how long i’ve been in love with you for, you know how much i want to marry you.” Kurt got up and went over to Blaine and hugged him. “No more doubts?”
“Not anymore. You said yes.” Blaine leaned back into Kurt’s hug, his hands holding the arms around his neck. He felt Kurt put his chin on his head, making him smile. Blaine stood up and turned towards Kurt, opening his arms for a proper hug. “And you know how much I love hugs.”
“Yeah i do.” he smiled hugging him properly. “Almost as much as you love Harry Potter.”
“But no where near how much I love you.” Blaine said as the hug ended. “Excuse my cheesiness on that last line. Couldn’t help it.” Blaine picked up their dirty dishes and took them to the kitchen. He began to wash them, singing as he did.
“Thats good then” he grinned. “You know how much i love cheesiness.” he followed Blaine to the kitchen leaning against the counter watching and listening to him sing. “Want some help?”
“I don’t think I need any…” Blaine said, looking down at the two plates he had to wash. After another minute he was done and there was only enough foam for one handful left in the sink….. which ended up on Kurt’s face. Blaine ran out of the kitchen, knowing Kurt was probably going to chase him.
“Blaine!” he shouted laughing chasing after him. Kurt ran into the living room and couldn’t see Blaine anywhere, he was either hiding or not in there at all. He decided to look somewhere else, he went up to the bedroom to check, he wasn’t there either. Where was he? Kurt thought to himself, he wiped the foam off his face and held it in his hand.
As soon as he saw Kurt go up the stairs, Blaine ran through the house and went outside. He closed the door loudly, as if giving Kurt a hint, and looked around. He spotted a hammock for two he set up when he was younger and walked over to it. He loved hammocks. Blaine settled into it and closed his eyes, waiting for Kurt to come outside.
Kurt heard the door slam and ran down the stairs and out the door. He looked around and couldn’t see him, he then saw a hammock swinging. Kurt ran over to it to see Blaine lying in it, his eyes were closed.Perfect he smiled. He rubbed the foam that was in his hand on Blaine’s face. “Payback!” he laughed.
Blaine was too comfortable to get up and get Kurt back. His hand went up to his face and he rubbed of the foam, laughing. “Why thank you for that!” Blaine said once it was all off. He turned his head to look up at Kurt, who was standing there laughing. He grinned up at Kurt, scooting over a little in the hammock.
“You’re most welcome.” he laughed looking down at Blaine. “You comfy down there?”
“I am, thank you for asking.” Blaine set his foot on the ground and pushed off, letting himself swing some more. The hammock was made for more than one person, and with Blaine being the only one in it, he thought he probably looked small.
Kurt watched as Blaine pushed the hammock himself, so he stood beside it and gently rocked it from side to side, smiling at Blaine. “You look tiny on that thing.”
Blaine let his eyes close as Kurt pushed the hammock. “That’s because it’s made for two people, and it looks extra big with a hobbit on there.” Blaine sighed with a smile. He loved that hammock.
Kurt laughed. “You’re not a hobbit.” he stopped pushing the hammock and climbed on beside Blaine wrapping his arms around him and resting his head on Blaine’s chest.
“I am so a hobbit .” Blaine opened his eyes when he felt Kurt get onto the hammock and lay his head on his chest. Blaine let his own arms wrap around Kurt, smiling as he did. “You comfortable?”
Kurt nestled his head into Blaine’s chest. “Now i am.” he looked up at Blaine smiling, he leaned up and kissed his chin as it was the only thing he could reach. “Am i making it uncomfortable for you?”
“Not at all.” Blaine said as Kurt kissed his chin, smiling. He snuggled a bit closer to Kurt and his head rested on top of his. His foot pushed off the ground again, letting them swing some more. “What are our plans for today?”
“I’m thinking Harry Potter movie marathon and then teach you how to cook, sound good?” Kurt gave him a squeeze, he knew exactly what he was going to say he just thought he’d check.
“Sounds awesome. You know I love my Harry Potter.” Blaine said with a laugh, settling into the hammock with Kurt snuggled up in his arms. He sighed happily and planted a kiss on Kurt’s head. “Did you like my attempt to make breakfast?”
“I know, you love him a lot. I should really be jealous.” he laughed, he felt a kiss on his head making him smile warmly. “I did, i told you it was the best toast ever. Seriously no one has ever made toast like that for me since my mom.” he smiled up at him.
“You have nothing to be jealous about.” Blaine laughed when Kurt did. He smiled to himself when Kurt said he loved Blaine’s toast. “I think some people possess these toast making skills, like me and your mom. Other people can just cook well in general.” Blaine said, directing the last part at Kurt and giving him a squeeze.
“Oh thats good then, i was getting worried that there was something going on between you and Harry” Kurt grinned. “My mom was an amazing cook, my dad however is not” he laughed. He felt Blaine squeeze him and he returned it. “I think some people do possess those skills, you have the cooking skill you just need to let it out” he smiled up at him.
“As worried as I should be about Cedric?” Blaine teased, foot pushing off from the ground to get them swinging. “I won’t ever be a good cook, but I guess I could try” He returned Kurt’s smile and watched as a butterfly flew over their heads.
“Hey Cedric’s dead, both Oliver and Harry are alive. I can’t run off with a dead man.” Kurt giggled. “You will you just need practice, then you will get better” a butterfly flew over their heads, Kurt’s eyes followed it smiling. “Butterflies are fascinating aren’t they?”
"Hmmmm no you can't, I'm happy about that." Blaine smiled, pulling Kurt in for a tighter hug. "Yeah they are, do you ever wish..."
Kurt watched the butterfly. “Do i ever wish what?”
Blaine twisted the ring around Kurt’s finger. He didn’t realize he hadn’t finished his sentence. “It’s going to sound stupid, but do you ever wish you could fly like them? I do. I think it would be one of the coolest things ever.”
Kurt smiled down at Blaine twisting the ring on his finger. “I used to, before you. I hoped that one day i could fly and disappear into the sky with them then i met you.” he smiled up at him with a loving smile.
Blaine kept in twisting the ring, smiling to himself. “Did you know we have the same ring size?” He stopped twisting the ring and smiled. “That sounds like it should be a song. Don’t you think?”
“We do? Wow thats kinda funny.” Kurt smiled, useful piece of information if he ever decided he needed it. “I does, i think its one we should write.”
“I know. I thought it was so weird when Carole told me your ring size. So if I want to borrow some of your rings I can.” Blaine teased, looking down at Kurt. “We should. We’d give Rachel a run for her money, song writing wise.” Kurt had told him Rachel wrote the first song they sang at Regionals, and Blaine was pretty impressed.
“And you are welcome to borrow then, just not this one.” he twisted the ring on his finger. “Yeah i think between the two of us we could write something twice as good, especially with your musical talent.” Kurt took one of Blaine’s hands.
“Not that one? Darn.” Blaine teased, watching as Kurt twisted it with his thumb. He couldn’t get over the fact that Kurt was officially going to marry him. “We probably could. The ukulele might have to find its way in there, because I love that instrument.”
“I love it too, we can have any instrument you like as long as i get to sing.” he grinned still twisting the ring on his finger.
“Deal. You know I love hearing you sing.” Blaine said with a laugh, pushing his foot off of the ground to keep them swinging.
From where they were, Blaine could see the spot where he proposed. “Kurt. Over there. You see that empty spot in the trees over there?” He asked, pointing.
Kurt had to sit up slightly to look where Blaine was pointing, he almost fell off the hammock. He gripped Blaine tightly to keep steady, he followed Blaine’s hand to the empty spot in the trees. “Yeah i see it, what about it?”
Blaine laughed a little and held on to Kurt when he almost fell off the hammock. “Look a little closer. Does it look familiar at all? In any way?” He asked. Kurt probably won’t remember it, he was blindfolded on the way down and it was dark when he was there. Stupid question Blaine.
Kurt didn’t recognize it but he knew what Blaine was saying, it was the only place outside apart from where they currently where, that they’d been. He looked at Blaine and smiled. “Is that where…?”
“Yeah, it is.” Blaine looked over at the spot and broke out into a grin, resting his head on top of Kurt’s. They didn’t have to elaborate, they both knew what the other was saying. “Looks different in the day time.”
“But its still beautiful.” he rested back down on Blaine, after he did he felt Blaine’s head rest on his. Kurt's hand still had hold of one of Blaine’s, his thumb stroked it. He closed his eyes and listened to the sounds around him.
“I agree. I’ve always loved that spot, and now I have a reason to love it even more than before.” Blaine said as Kurt’s thumb stroked his hand. He looked down at the boy in his arms, smiling as he saw Kurt’s eyes close. Blaine kept his own eyes open and looked around himself. The house looked bigger than Blaine remembered for some reason, and the river seemed smaller. He spotted an old treehouse of his in the thicket of trees, and he grinned. Maybe he should take Kurt there later.
“Can we stay here forever?” Kurt asked his eyes still closed and thumb still stroking Blaine’s hand. He was still snuggled up against Blaine not ever wanting to move. Almost everything right now was perfect, if what happened that morning didn’t happen then everything would be perfect.
“In this hammock or in Vermont?” Blaine teased, wanting to stay there forever too. “Cause if we stay here forever we can never go to New York, and you’ll never get your scarf in Paris. I don’t know about you, but I was kinda looking forward to those trips.” A breeze came through, making the hammock swing on its own.
“Both, i like it like this, just us and nothing else to worry about. No one to tell us what to do or try and make us do anything” the Warblers “We can go to New York and Paris and then somewhere only for us.” Kurt opened his eyes and looked up at Blaine. “I’m really looking forward to the trips, New York much, much more than Paris. Although i do love Paris, no New York will be soo much better.”
Blaine smiled as Kurt said stuff about not having anything to worry about. “You got that song from Aladdin stuck in my head now…” Blaine mumbled to himself, not sure if Kurt heard him. “New York is going to be the best trip of our entire lives. Well, for me at least. I’ve been to New York a few times, not much, but I know this will be the best trip. Like this was my favorite Vermont trip, and I come here every summer.”
“Which song? It has quite a few if i remember.” He smiled warmly at what Blaine said next. “It will be the best trip of my life too, it’ll be our day, the day that you’re officially mine forever.” He kissed Blaine’s chin again. “This is my first time to Vermont and it’s already been the best time of my life. Now we’re engaged i can come here with you when you come, not all the time just some, unless you want me to but its okay if you don’t. I know you’d like to come down without me and…” Kurt was grateful for Blaine’s kiss, he felt like he was rambling on a bit, he kissed him back and smiled.
“A Whole New World. The one where they’re on the magic carpet.” Blaine explained before listening to Kurt ramble on about coming to Vermont with him more often. Blaine’s eyes traveled across Kurt’s face as he was talking, and Blaine let out a small laugh at how adorable he was being and leaned in to kiss him. That would stop his insecure rambling about Blaine not wanting to bring him to Vermont. He felt Kurt smile while kissing him back, and Blaine gave his hand a squeeze before pulling back for a second and saying “I want you to go everywhere with me.”
Kurt felt Blaine squeeze his hand making him smile more and squeeze back. When Blaine pulled away he looked into his eyes as he spoke. “I want to go everywhere with you too, but i’m worried you’ll get sick of me and then trade me up for someone better looking and more talented.” he grinned.
“I don’t think a person like that exists.” Blaine said with a laugh, watching as Kurt grinned. “And please. I can’t get sick of you. Ever. Now, my dorkiness, on the other hand, may become slightly annoying and overwhelming, so tell me when it does and I’ll be sure not to act in my full dorkiness as much around you.”
Kurt smiled at what Blaine said. “I love your dorkiness, it makes me love you even more. I think its adorable and you’re adorable when you’re like it. So you’ll never hear me tell you its annoying or overwhelming because i don’t think it is.” he squeezed on Blaine’s hand to tell him that he was serious.
“I’ll never hear you say it, but trust me, one day in the future you’ll think it. Trust me.” Blaine rested his forehead against Kurt’s and intertwined their fingers more. He could feel the ring pressing against the skin in between his own fingers, making Blaine grin. He kept his eyes open so that he could stare at Kurt’s. “You’ll never meet anyone as dorky as myself. Unless you meet my friends from my old school.”
“Nope that thought won’t even cross my mind, the only time it will cross it will be when i think about how adorable it is.” Kurt smiled as Blaine’s forehead rested against his own and their fingers intertwined. Kurt’s eyes were fixed onto Blaine’s, his eyes were so hypnotizing. “I bet you’re even dorkier, but i’ll never want to meet anyone, if there is anyone, who is a bigger dork than you. You’re a lovable dork, not just any lovable dork, my lovable dork,” he realized how cheesy he sounded and bit his lip to stop himself going on and on.
”There isn’t a bigger dork than the man you now have to marry anywhere on the planet.” Blaine said with a smile, listening to him as he went on about him being an adorable, lovable dork. “Of course I’m your dork. Who else’s dork would I be? No one could handle my intense level of dorkiness.” He watched Kurt bite his lip, one of the cutest things that boy ever does. Blaine leaned forward and kissed Kurt, smiling as he did.
“I agree i don’t think anyone could handle your intense level of dorkiness, you’d drive them insane.” Kurt smiled when Blaine kissed him, he could tell Blaine was smiling too which only made him smile more. The hand that had been draped over Blaine was now on his face, both of his thumbs were stroking Blaine’s hand and face at the same time.
Blaine kept in a whimper when he felt Kurt’s thumbs stroke his hand and face at the exact same time. He let his own hand rest behind Kurt’s neck, playing with the bottom of his hair. He didn’t want to mess it up after Kurt had just fixed it for him. The hammock had stopped swinging and Blaine’s foot pushed off the ground to start it up again, never breaking the kiss for a second.
Kurt felt Blaine’s hand on his neck playing with the bottle on his hair, the hairs on the back of his neck stood up. The hammock slowly stopped swinging, when it did start again Kurt guessed it was Blaine this time not the wind. Kurt continued to kiss him back, for now this was as far as they were going to go, kissing. What happened that morning made sure of that, setting Kurt back a few spaces.
Blaine felt Kurt kiss him back, making his smile widen. His hand began to travel from Kurt’s neck to his back, but it stopped when he remembered that morning. Kurt’s speed, not yours Blaine. He reluctantly pulled back to look at Kurt with a smile before taking his head and nuzzling it into Kurt’s neck like a puppy. Blaine lifted his head after keeping it there for a little bit and leaned his head back into the hammock, a silly grin plastered to his face as he hummed a song.
Kurt knew what was going through Blaine’s mind when Blaine’s hand stopped traveling. Kurt giggled and wriggled slightly when Blaine’s head nuzzled into his neck, he took the hand that was on Blaine’s face and ruffled Blaine’s un-gelled hair. A bit later Kurt watched as Blaine’s head rested back into the hammock, a large grin on his face and he began humming. Kurt rested his head back on to Blaine’s chest, smiling widely. “What’s that you’re humming?”
Blaine stopped humming and looked up at him before looking back down at his hands with a childlike grin. “If I tell you, it will only increase my dorikness. I really should be able to contain that around you…” Blaine began to hum again, despite wanting to stop. Once a Disney song got stuck in his head, it took forever before it got out again.
“Pleaasseee tell me, i love your dorkiness do i don’t care if its increased.” Kurt begged.
Blaine looked up at him and smiled. “Okay, if you’re sure. I was singing that song from Tarzan, I don’t know if you’ve seen that movie. It’s so sweet.” Blaine looked into Kurt’s eyes and began to sing instead of humming to show him how the song went. “Come stop your crying it will be alright. Just take my hand, hold it tight. I will protect you from all around you. I will be here, don’t you cry.”
“I know that song, its a beautiful song.” Kurt smiled lovingly into Blaine’s eyes, when Blaine got to the line "Just take my hand, hold it tight." Kurt squeezed the hand he was still holding.
”For one so small, you seem so strong. My arms will hold you, keep you safe and warm.” Blaine’s arms wrapped around Kurt at this line. He pulled back and looked deeply into Kurt’s eyes as he sang the next line. “This bond between us can’t be broken. I will be here, don’t you cry.”
Kurt smiled widely when Blaine’s arms wrapped around him and when he pulled back they gazed into each other’s eyes. Kurt took in every word of what he was singing and joined in. “‘Cause you’ll be in my heart, yes, you’ll be in my heart. From this day on.Now and forever more.” when he finished that piece he mouthed ‘i love you’.
