“Don’t I owe someone a scarf who owes me coffee?” Blaine teased, playing a bit louder. Kurt sat up, but Blaine didn’t know what for. His eyes went back down to his guitar and he kept on playing the song he had on repeat after meeting Kurt. He remembered how David and Wes are now about ready to kill someone every time they hear that song, and how the twins did nothing but make fun of him when he played it nonstop.
“Your information is correct, i do owe you coffee.” he smiled laying back down listening to Blaine play it. “This song made me fall for you, you know. When you held my hand i felt a spark but this is what made me fall for you and i fell hard."
Blaine looked up at Kurt, still playing. “Really? You want to know what this song did for me? I played it nonstop after meeting you. I couldn’t get it out of my head, and I didn’t know why. I know now. I suggest never playing this around David and Wes or you will get something thrown at you. I guess I overplayed that song….” Blaine said, finishing with a laugh.
“You didn’t feel that way about me at all until i don’t really even know when you never said when we went through my journal, so why would you play a song nonstop after meeting me? I don’t really understand.” Kurt looked confused and watched Blaine’s hand movements on the guitar. “Don’t worry i don’t plan on playing this around them or any of your songs, you seem to over play them all.” he laughed.
“I don’t know either, I just…. couldn’t get it out of my head.” Blaine admitted, eyes still focused on the guitar. “Reed seemed to know instantly and tried to convince me that it was because I have feelings for you from that moment on.” He said with a laugh. “Reed is a genius…..” He mumbled to himself. “Yeah, I sort of have a problem with overplaying stuff…..” Blaine looked up to Kurt with a shrug.
“Well my feelings were always pretty obvious and Reed spotted that too.” Kurt chuckled softly. “He is a genius and to think if he didn’t help you to realize we might not even be here now, i might be off somewhere with Cedric.” he grinned at Blaine who had not taken his eyes off the guitar. “I don’t care if you over play stuff, i do because i haven’t stopped listening to that cd of yours.”
“Thank god for Reed. Can’t have you off with Cedric.” Blaine laughed along with Kurt and looked up from his guitar to see Kurt grinning at him. He grinned back and the song shifted to a song he couldn’t put his finger on. He remembered that Kurt sang it a lot, and how he said something about New Directions performing it at Burt and Carole’s wedding as they walked down the aisle. “You really play my cd a lot?” Blaine said with an embarrassed grin.
Kurt nodded. “Yeah i do, honestly its all i really listen to.” He said going a slight shade of pink. He listened to the song on the guitar and recognized it, he and the New Directions sang it at his dads wedding as they walked down the aisle. He sang along. “Hey baby, i think i wanna marry you. Is it the look in your eyes or is it this dancing juice? Who cares baby, I think i wanna marry you”
Blaine looked up at Kurt and grinned. He remembered the song now that Kurt put words to it. He listened to the words Kurt sang and he bit his lip. “Dancing juice… well if that makes you want to marry me I’m gonna have to stock up on this juice….” Blaine said before Kurt began to sing again, laughing.
“You might have to.” he smiled looking down, he continued to sing. “Well i know this little chapel on the boulevard we can go, no one will know. Come on girl. Who care if we’re trashed got a pocket full of cash we can blow, shots of patron. And its on girl.”
“Where can I get this juice…..” Blaine laughed and watched Kurt intently as he sung. He looooooooved hearing Kurt say he wanted to marry him. Loved it. He didn’t know if it showed on his face and he kept playing.
“Wish for it and it shall appear.” Kurt smiled, “Don’t say no, no, no, no-no, just say yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah. And we’ll go, go, go, go-go. If you’re ready, like i’m ready.” he smiled thoughtfully while singing, listen carefully to Blaine playing. Everytime he heard or sang the song he thought of Blaine but he wasn’t going to admit that. .
Blaine stopped playing for a moment to hold his hand out in the air and pretend as if he were motioning a waiter to them. “Waiter, waiter. I’m going to need all of your dancing juice to go please.” He began playing again, watching as Kurt smiled to himself. What was he thinking, Blaine wondered. He raised his eyebrows as Kurt sang. “You ready?” He joked.
Kurt laughed as Blaine called an imaginary waiter. He smiled as he continued to play. “Cause its a beautiful night, we’re looking for something dumb to do. Hey baby, i think i wanna marry you.” On the last line he looked at Blaine and smiled wider.
Blaine looked back down at his guitar to be sure he didn’t goof up as Kurt began to sing the chorus. It was hard for him to keep his thoughts together. Kurt singing this song was such a tease for him, but Kurt didn’t know that. Why should he? The song was nearing the end and Blaine was getting a hand of the tune, finally. When Kurt stopped singing, Blaine had assumed the song had ended and stopped playing, shifting to another song.
Kurt had relaxed completely since Blaine’s mom had called up, he wasn’t so nervous and uncomfortable any more. He looked at Blaine lovingly who was looking at his guitar, he changed the song and began humming. Kurt didn’t know what song this was so he just sat back and admired Blaine.
Kurt singing that song about marriage made one of his favorite Beach Boys’ songs get stuck in his head. Luckily, he knew the chords. Blaine began to play, humming softly to himself. The humming turned into mumbling the words. “Wouldn’t it be nice if we were older, then we wouldn’t have to wait so long. And wouldn’t it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong.”
Kurt listened to the words that Blaine was singing, it made his smile grow, if his smile grew any wider it would take up the whole of his face. He only wished he knew the song then he could sing along with him, but listening to Blaine sing was enough for him.
“You know it’s gonna make it that much better, when we can say goodnight and stay together.” Blaine sang a little louder through a smile. He paused, looking up towards the ceiling, trying to remember what came next. He was bad about that. “Wouldn’t it be nice if we could wake up in the morning when the day is new. After having spent the day together, hold each other close the whole night through.”
Kurt took in the words that Blaine was singing and imagining that to be them, their life in the future once they were married. He bit his lip to stop him smiling wider; he looked at Blaine his eyes so full of love. He loved it when Blaine sang it set off a load of sparks inside of him.
Blaine paused again, looking up at the ceiling. He loved this song. Why could he all of a sudden not remember it? Oh, that’s right. He couldn’t get the words and what they meant out of his head. He wondered if Kurt was listening to the words and understanding them, not just listening to him sing in general. “What happy times together we’d be spending. I wish that every kiss was never ending. Oh wouldn’t it be nice.” It got to a small instrumental part, so Blaine looked up at Kurt and shrugged. “I’m really bad about remembering words to songs sometimes.”
“Really? You’re usually very good at it.” He laughed, he moved from the end of the bed slightly back, closer to Blaine who was at the other end. He wished he knew the song so he could hear the rest of the words, the song sounded so like them, him and Blaine.
“I know! For some reason though, my mind keeps coming up with different words to sing…” Blaine watched and held his breath as Kurt moved closer to him. He let it out after realizing it was time to sing again and picked up where he left off. “Maybe if we think and wish and hope and pray it might come true. Baby then there wouldn’t be a single thing we couldn’t do.” He paused, not meaning to. “We could be married. And then we’d be happy. Oh wouldn’t it be nice?” Another instrumental part came on and Blaine looked over at Kurt, smiling. “Beach Boys. They’re pretty cool.”
Kurt moved even closer and smiled. “They sound pretty cool, i might have to have a listen to them when i get home later.” He listened to the words of the song that Blaine was singing, the songs that he was playing were about marriage, was that just a coincidence?
“I’ve got their record over there somewhere.” Blaine motioned to his record player and many boxes of records in the corner. His fingers were going to need a little break soon. “You know it seems the more we talk about it, makes it only worse to live without it. So let’s talk about it. Wouldn’t it be nice?” Kurt look flustered, Blaine noticed. What? What was he doing to make Kurt flustered? He couldn’t come up with something, so he put his guitar down in his lap and smiled, thinking of the next song to play.
Kurt’s mind was racing, all these different thoughts scattering around. He moved and sat completely next to Blaine resting his head on his shoulder. Kurt took Blaine’s hand and gently massaged it, he gave it a kiss and then went back to massaging it.
“Well now, how am I going to play with you massaging my hand? It makes it pretty difficult…” Blaine teased, pushing the guitar out of his lap and patting his legs, indicating for Kurt to sit where his guitar just was. “Come here.” He said, looking down at the boy leaning against his shoulder, wondering if his offer would be accepted.
Kurt looked at Blaine who was patting his legs, he guessed he was asking Kurt to sit on his lap, when Blaine said “come here” it confirmed what he guessed. Still holding Blaine’s hand he moved and gently sat on his lap, leaning back against Blaine’s chest.
“See? Much more comfortable than my uncomfy shoulder.” Blaine said with a smile, wrapping his arms around Kurt. “You were making me think about marriages and all that jazz when we were singing.” Blaine said, leaning his head onto the crook of Kurt’s shoulder. He closed his eyes and smiled again, listening to the sounds of the two breathing. Thoughts of Vermont flooded his mind, and he made a mental note to start planning that trip with Kurt and talk to Burt.
Kurt felt Blaine’s arms wrap around him making him smile even more and his heart flutter. “I noticed.” He said closing his eyes. “How did i make you think of them?” the silence was nice, helped Kurt to think about them, their future and everything that had happened between them and everything that could happen.
“You just did.” was all Blaine could answer with. “Hey, we need to plan for Vermont, mister. And I still need to convince your dad to let you go and ask him a couple of things. And you can’t get high off of coffee this time, comprende?” Blaine laughed and nuzzled his nose into Kurt’s neck, sighing. He was so incredibly happy right now that he could explode.
“We do need to plan, i haven’t really gone anywhere so you’re going to need to do a lot of it and i like surprises, so you can surprise me with how well you plan.” He smiled and then sighed. “Good luck convincing dad he can be very stubborn, no i won’t get high off coffee because this isn’t as big as you trying to get his approval. I’ll probably be off with Rachel or Tina or someone like that, when do you want to talk to dad?” He asked, grinning as Blaine’s nose nuzzled into his neck.
“I actually plan very well, thank you very much. And I’ve decided some of the trip will be spontaneous, so less planning will need to be done.” Blaine gave Kurt’s neck a kiss as he said he wouldn’t get high off of coffee again. He rose his eyebrows and bit his lip trying to control his nervous laughter. Not as big as winning his approval…. that’s what you think. “Oh… um… whenever he’s free, actually. We’ve been talking about this trip for a while and it needs to happen.” Blaine said, letting out his nervous laughter.
Kurt bit his lip when he felt Blaine’s lips kiss his neck, he loved it when Blaine did it. “You sound nervous baby, don’t be if you managed to get his approval then this should be easy” he raised his hand and put it on Blaine’s neck gently stroking it. “I can’t wait for Vermont, it sounds amazing there. And being there with you it’ll be more amazing.”
Blaine looked up at Kurt when he said that it should be easy. Right… if he only knew. His neck tingled when Kurt stroked it, causing him to break into a grin and set his chin back down on Kurt’s shoulder. “Vermont is going to be the best road trip ever. Speaking of that, since I don’t know when our next holiday is, I talked to our teachers. They said that next week is going to be pretty lazy, no new material or anything. One of those weeks where all you do is review and have study halls. That’s the week most of the kids miss to go do family business things, so we could go then if you want. Or we could just wait till the next break.”
“Sounds perfect, the sooner the better. That means you’re going to have to speak to dad soon. Carole told me this morning that dad took the rest of the day off so you could talk to him later, it’ll probably distract him so he might be likely to say yes. Or you could talk to him on his next day off which is tomorrow otherwise it’ll have to be when he comes home from work.”
“Tonight sounds the best. Do you think you could call him or text him and see when he could do it? I could do anytime, really. And… Could I talk to Carole before I talk to Burt?” Blaine asked a bit nervously. “You know, for advice? It doesn’t exactly have to be way before. Or she could be there when I ask Burt if you can go. For extra help on my part.”
“I can call him now if you like, he’ll have left the grave he’s only there for about five minutes. Yeah you can talk to Carole before, she’ll probably be there too when you talk to dad so its even better for you. Baby don’t be so nervous its going to be fine.” He turned round slightly and kissed his cheek. “I promise.”
“Okay, thanks. You should call him.” Blaine listened as Kurt talked, smiling to himself. Carole would probably be a big advantage. Blaine tightened his grip on Kurt and took in a long, sharp breath. “It’s just hard not to be nervous.” Blaine admitted, closing his eyes as Kurt kissed his cheek.
Kurt felt Blaine’s grip on him tighten. Why was he so nervous he was only asking to go to Vermont with Kurt not ask his permission to marry him. He laughed to himself. “I know my dad can be a bit intimidating but Carole will be there to soften him.”
“Hey, don’t laugh at me. You would be nervous too.” Blaine loosened his grip. “Are you going to call you dad or did you text him? Because I should tell my mom if I’m going somewhere tonight.” Blaine’s grip ceased to exist and he unwrapped his arms completely from Kurt, allowing him to get his phone out of his pocket.
“I’m not nervous, i have no reason to be. You’re such a charmer and he already likes you so he has no reason to say no” he smiled as Blaine loosened his grip. “I’ll call my dad while you go and talk to your mom if you like?” he felt Blaine’s arms pull away from him as he got his phone out. Not having Blaine holding onto him meant that he wasn’t able to keep balance especially since he was trying to get his phone out. He fell on his side, laughing his legs still on Blaine.
Blaine smiled to himself, looking down. God, I hope so. “Yeah, I’ll go downstairs in a second.” He watched as Kurt tried to get his phone out and fell out of his lap in the process. “See? You are clumsy.” Blaine said with a laugh, kissing Kurt’s shoulder as it was the closest thing he could reach. He began to stand up, gently taking Kurt’s legs off of him. “I’ll be right back.” Blaine said, walking towards the door. Before leaving, he turned to Kurt and blew him a kiss, laughing. He closed the door behind him and headed down the stairs, looking for his mom.
Kurt smiled as Blaine blew him a kiss before leaving, he blew one back unsure if he saw it. He dialled his dads number and held the phone to his ear. “Hi dad… er yeah everythings fine… yes dad i’m ok… yes dad… no dad… dad can you be quiet for a second?… Yes… Blaine wants to know if he can have a talk with you later… i don’t know… right i’ll tell him… is Carole home?… good… we’ll be back a bit later… yes dad… bye dad.” He hung up and sighed.
Blaine saw his mom on the couch, watching When Harry Met Sally. “Oh god, not that again.” Blaine said, sitting down next to his mom on the couch.
She paused the movie and turned towards him, knowing he wanted to talk. Blaine sighed before beginning.
“I’m going to talk to Kurt’s dad and stepmom tonight. About the thing we were talking about. Do you think I’m rushing it?” Blaine asked his mom nervously.
His mom lit up, taking in this whole thing. “Oh my god, that’s so amazing!” She practicly screamed.
“Shhhhh! Shut up mom! Kurt’s upstairs!” Blaine tried to quiet her down.
When she was quieter, she said. “I think it’s fine…” They talked for a little bit longer, ending in a hug before Blaine ran up the stairs and went into his room. Closing the door behind him, he leaned against the closed door, breathing heavily.
Kurt watched as Blaine came in the door, leaning against it and breathed heavily. He got up off the bed and walked over to him, wrapping his arms around him. “What’s wrong?” He asked giving him a hug.
“My mom… is insane.” Blaine said, hugging Kurt back. When he pulled away, Blaine ran his hand through his hair. “You didn’t hear anything, did you?” He asked slowly, becoming worried. His mom practically screamed in excitement….
“Just something that sounded like a scream but it was so quick that i could have just imagined it, knowing me i probably did.” He laughed. “I called dad by the way.”
“Yeah, that scream would’ve been my mom. What did he say?” Blaine said, walking over towards his bed again, sinking down onto it. He closed his eyes and put a hand to his forehead, rubbing his temples. Blaine patted the empty space on the bed next to him, hoping Kurt understood what he meant.
Kurt followed Blaine to the bed and sat down where he patted. He took Blaine’s spare hand and held it, intertwining their fingers. “It took him a while to actually shut up and when i asked him he said its fine and Carole’s home too. Do you want to talk to Carole first and then the two together?” He asked. “Erm… why was your mom screaming? Is she okay?”
Blaine gave Kurt’s fingers a squeeze. “Yeah, I actually think I do want to talk to Carole first. Can I?” He opened his eyes and looked at Kurt. “My mom is crazy… that’s why. Sort of. I told her about going to talk to your dad and she got excited and… screamed. It took a while to shut her up too.” Blaine laughed, feeling better with Kurt.
“Of course you can, anything to settle these nerves you have” he leaned in closer so their arms were touching. “She got excited that you’re going to talk to my dad about Vermont? You’re right she is insane.” He laughed.
“Awesome.” Blaine sighed and put his arm around Kurt, sensing he wanted to come closer. “I told you. She is where I get my romantic stuff from, and she loves the fact that we might.. go on a road trip.” Blaine chose his words carefully so he didn’t give anything away. “When are we going over there?”
“I’m glad we got her approval, its funny how she approves even though we’ve never met.” He smiled. “We can go over whenever you like, you’re the one who wants to talk to them so its up to you.”
“She’d love you. And like I said, she’s crazy like that.” Blaine pulled Kurt closer to him, sighing. “We should go soon so we can go to the mall afterwards. Do you want to go meet my mom and then go to your house?
“Oooh the mall, yes lets do that i like that plan.” He smiled giving Blaine’s hand a squeeze. “Yeah i’d like to meet her.”
“Let’s go then.” Blaine pulled Kurt off the bed and took him downstairs, holding his hand the entire time.
They walked into the room that Blaine’s mom was in, and Blaine called out “Mom? I’m back. And I brought Kurt.”
His mom didn’t even stop to pause the movie and just turned it off completely, jumping up and turning towards them. She rushed forward and gave Kurt a hug. “So glad to finally meet you! Blaine’s told me so much about you…”
Before Kurt had a chance to say hello Blaine’s mom ran over and hugged him tight. He was almost knocked off his feet. He hugged her back trying to breath. “Hi Mrs Anderson, its great to meet you too.” He could just about say.
Blaine gave Kurt a look saying “Told you so.”and then turned to his mom. “Let the boy breathe, mom.” He said, laughing. Blaine’s mom let go and dusted herself off, smiling at Kurt.
“How are you, dear?” She asked, patting Kurt on the shoulder. She gave her son a look that he knew said “This one is cute…” He stuck his tongue out at her and grabbed Kurt’s hand again, intertwining their fingers. Blaine’s mom looked down at their hands together and looked as if she was trying not to scream “Awwwwwww!”
Kurt was relieved when she pulled away, he caught his breath. “I’m good thank you, how are you?” any other day he would have said he was great or perfect or something like that. He looked down at their intertwining fingers and looked up at Blaine lovingly, completely forgetting that Blaine’s mom was there. He only remembered she was there when she said “Awwwww!” he looked to her and blushed, biting his lip.
Blaine glared at his mom.Shut up shut up shut up shut up. You’re going to scare him away… ”Okay, so we are going to Kurt’s house now. Bye mom!”
He practically ran out of the room, pulling Kurt by the hand with him. When they got in the car and safely out of the house, Blaine let out a breath he had been holding. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry for my mom…. insane. Like I said.”
Kurt did not expect Blaine to run to the door so still joined hands he was pulled, trying not to trip up. “Bye Mrs Anderson!” He called as they left the house. They got in Kurt’s car and caught their breaths. “Its okay, she was exactly what i expected.” He laughed nervously.
“Oh, okay.” Blaine leaned back into his seat, realizing what was about to happen as soon as they got to Kurt’s house. Kurt sang along to Blaine’s cd the entire ride, and Blaine sat looking at his hands. He stole glances at Kurt every once in a while, marveling at how adorable he could be at times. The pair arrived at Kurt’s house and walked up to it slowly. They walked into the house to see Carole on the couch watching TV.
They arrived at Kurt’s house and jumped out of the car, Kurt opened the door letting himself and Blaine in. “We’re back!” Kurt called through, Carole was watching TV and he wasn’t too sure where his dad was. He walked into the living room and leaned against the sofa. “Blaine wants to talk to you.” He said in Carole’s ear. She turned round and smiled at Blaine who looked very nervous. Kurt kissed Blaine’s cheek. “You’ll be fine, don’t be nervous.” He whispered in his ear before going upstairs.
