“I’m glad to see that you care about my son so much.” Burt smiled. “Why? What do you mean he’s had too much coffee? Where is he?”
“He’s…. hyper.” Blaine said. “I think he’s at the coffee shop, but I can’t be too sure.” The phone buzzed again, and Kurt’s text confirmed Blaine’s guess. “Yeah, he’s acting completely hyper. We should probably make him come back home or go pick him up.”
“Kurt hyper? Wow he’s never been drunk and yet he’s high on coffee” Burt chuckled. “Do you think it’s wise for him to drive while he’s that hyper? I don’t.” Burt said completely unaware that Kurt had been drunk once before, thanks to the lovely April Rhodes.
“I was just thinking about that… We should go pick him up. He has his car, so I can drive it back here for you after we get him if you want. Or you could drive his car and I’ll drive with him. Or maybe if you want… Never mind that, let’s go.” Blaine rambled on, worried about Kurt.
“I think it’s probably best if you drive with him, me and him well we haven’t seen eye to eye lately.” Burt said, worried about what had brought this on. “What coffee shop would he be at?”
“He’s at the one we go to after school… I know how to get there.” Blaine and Burt both got up and headed to the door quickly. Blaine followed Burt out to his car and looked around, noticing that it was beginning to sprinkle. He was glad the coffee shop was not far away.
Burt and Blaine jumped in the car; Burt didn’t know where this coffee shop was so he relied on Blaine for directions. “I didn’t even know coffee did that to him, otherwise I wouldn’t let him drink it.”
“Only when he overdoses on it, I guess.” Blaine shrugged. “We usually have coffee and he’s fine. I think he’s just nervous about this whole meeting.” They reached the street the coffee shop was on, and the drizzle slowly turned into pouring rain. They pulled up to the shop and parked outside. Blaine could see Kurt sitting there, dancing in his seat, and he laughed.
Burt looked from Kurt to Blaine when they pulled up. “Take care of him Blaine, I mean it. I’ll be at home.” he said as Blaine got out of the car.
“Don’t worry. I will” Blaine said to Burt as he got out of the car. He turned and waved at Kurt’s father before walking into the coffee shop and over to where Kurt was dancing in his seat. He wrapped his arms around Kurt from behind his seat, and leaned down to say something. “I see you’ve gotten your fair share of coffee.”
Kurt was dancing in his seat when Blaine arrived, he didn’t notice him until Blaine wrapped his arms around Kurt from behind, Kurt gave a small yell and jumped. “Blaineeeeee you’re here, I missed you. I only had… one, two, three, four, and i lost count on coffee.”
Blaine let go of Kurt and sat down in the empty seat in front of him. He looked out the window to see Burt driving away and smiled to himself. Blaine turned back to Kurt and eyed the empty coffee cups on the table worriedly. On the table were five cups, and Blaine didn’t know how many Kurt had drank. “Where’s my coffee?” Blaine asked with a small laugh.
“It’s erm... Erm… I think I drank it” Kurt said pulling up the cup that he’d hidden on the floor. “Sorry, I was just so thirsty!”
Blaine laughed and shook his head. “Okay, no more for you.” He declared, scooping up the empty cups on the table and taking them to the trash. He came back to the table to see Kurt drumming his fingers on the tabletop loudly, obviously still hyper. There was no way Kurt was going to crash soon, Blaine thought to himself. “Come on, let’s get you home.” He said, walking over behind Kurt and helped him up.
“Home is good, I like home, I like home when you’re home with me.” Kurt said as Blaine held him up. Kurt was jumping around and dancing still very hyper, he had no idea that the crash would be heavy. He took Blaine’s hand and spun him round and round. “I loveee you Blaineeeeee.”
Blaine couldn’t help but laugh when Kurt spun him around. “You’re acting so drunk, and it’s adorable.” He said, grinning at Kurt. Blaine wasn’t too sure if Kurt heard him. He put his arm around the hyper boy and led him out of the coffee shop and to the car. Blaine took the keys from Kurt and helped him into the passenger seat, making sure he was all safe before getting in on his side. He re-adjusted the mirrors before starting the car and pulling out of Kurt’s parking space.
Kurt didn’t hear him he was in his own world. He was trying to run to the car but was stopped continuously by Blaine, who found him hilarious. Kurt wanted to drive home but had to give up when Blaine took the keys from him. He pouted at Blaine who strapped him safely into the car. Kurt was looking at himself in the mirrors as Blaine drove off.
Blaine glanced over at Kurt and noticed him staring at himself in the mirror. “You look fine, trust me.” Blaine said with a half smile. He wondered if Kurt was going to remember anything about this and Blaine’s talk with Burt in the morning. He also began to remember the time when Kurt was the one driving Blaine home after he became drunk. He looked intently at Kurt, wondering.
Kurt turned his head to look at Blaine. “You are sooo pretty” Kurt said, his head was beginning to get light. “Where are we going?”
Blaine blushed a little and smiled at Kurt. “We’re going home, silly.” he said before leaning down to kiss Kurt’s hopelessly confused head when he stopped at a red light. He pulled away, still looking down into Kurt’s blue, blue eyes.
Kurt was looking into Blaine’s eyes, he then burst out laughing. He rolled around on his seat laughing his head off. He calmed down after a few minutes. “Are you coming home with me?”
“Only if you want me too.” Blaine said, smiling. “I’ll stay with you tonight as long as you need.” His gaze swept across Kurt’s face as he calmed down from his previous state of uncontrollable laughter. He looked adorable, and Blaine had to use every drop of self restraint in him to keep from kissing Kurt instead of driving.
“I want you too, stay with me tonight?” Kurt asked he was calming down. He smiled at Blaine and then turned to the window and swayed his head gently to nonexistent music.
“Of course.” Blaine smiled back at Kurt. He noticed Kurt swaying to something, but he didn’t hear anything. Blaine switched on the stereo in Kurt’s car, forgetting his CD was in there. The current song playing was Silly Love Songs, one of his favourites. He began to drum his fingers to the base beat on the steering wheel as Kurt swayed in time with the music he had put on. The two were getting closer to Kurt’s house.
Kurt was swaying along to the music that Blaine had just put on; he began humming along to it. Kurt was just happy that Blaine was staying over, he looked out the window and saw that they were almost back home, he groaned.
Blaine heard Kurt groan and he looked over at him, worried. “What’s wrong?” he asked as he turned onto Kurt’s street. He hoped Kurt hadn’t begun to feel sick.
“I don’t want to go home” Kurt said, his head was getting light; he put his hands to his head and stopped swaying.
Blaine reached around to put his arm around Kurt to keep him steady. “We have to go home,” Blaine said, worried about how Kurt was feeling. He began to drive slower, but they still reached the Hummel house. After pulling into the driveway, Blaine got out of the car and walked to Kurt’s side to help him out.
Kurt grabbed onto Blaine’s hand tight as they walked to Kurt’s door. “I’m sleepy.” Kurt slurred. He knew if his dad was up he wouldn’t be happy with Kurt’s behaviour.
“Poor thing.” Blaine said with a hint of laughter. He noticed Kurt was having some trouble walking and he tripped a few times. Blaine sighed and swooped up Kurt’s legs so that he was carrying the crazy boy and he walked into the house with Kurt in his arms. Blaine looked around and didn’t see Burt anywhere, so he made his way towards Kurt’s room.
Kurt was having some trouble walking so he was relieved when Blaine started carrying him; he wrapped his arms around Blaine’s neck and kissed his cheek. Kurt’s eyes were getting heavy, he looked to see if his dad was about so he knew to hide but he couldn’t see him. The next thing he knew was he was on his bed looking up at Blaine.
“And... there” Blaine gently put Kurt down on the bed and stepped back, satisfied with bringing Kurt home okay. He leaned against the wall, thinking about the way this night turned out. He thought it was strange Burt wasn’t there; he said he was going to be. Blaine looked at Kurt, who was getting situated on the bed, and smiled at him.
Kurt was lying comfortably in bed; he smiled at Blaine and patted the space in the bed beside him. He watched as Blaine smiled and sighed walking over to lie beside him. Kurt put his head on Blaine’s chest; it wasn’t long before he fell asleep. Burt walked past and saw Kurt asleep; he stood in the doorway and smiled at Blaine. He had been in his room talking with Carole about his Kurt worries.
Blaine lifted his hand and waved at Burt. He pointed down at Kurt, sleeping on his chest, and made a little sleeping gesture with his hand. Burt nodded and smiled again, making Blaine smile too. Kurt stirred and nestled closer to him, and Blaine looked down at him, still smiling and unsure if Burt was still at the door.
Burt walked into Kurt’s room and sat at the foot of his bed, he reached out putting his hand on Kurt’s leg. He looked at Blaine who was smiling down at the sleeping Kurt. “Is he ok?”
“I think so. He was going a little crazy on the way here, but I think he’ll be better after some sleep.” Blaine looked back at Burt, who was now worriedly staring at his son. “He’s probably dreaming about Lady Gaga on Broadway or something…Kurt-y.” Blaine said with a laugh.
Burt was still worried about Kurt, was he really that nervous about his and Blaine’s meeting? Or was their more to it? He knew they had to talk when Blaine left, for now, for the sake of his son he allowed Blaine to stay. He smiled when Blaine said what he could be dreaming, a typical Kurt dream he thought to himself. “Was he really that nervous about our chat?” he asked looking at his sleeping son.
“I think he thought that it would not have a good outcome because all of our previous meetings were very… awkward.” Blaine didn’t admit he felt that way too, he only shrugged after his guess. “I’m going to have to monitor the amount of coffee he drinks when we get coffee from now on…” Blaine said, shaking his head, smiling. Did he act the way Kurt acted tonight when he was drunk after Rachel’s party? Blaine wondered as they sat in silence for a few seconds. Kurt moved again and put his hand on Blaine’s chest, snuggling closer.
Burt wondered, maybe the ban was a bit harsh, Finn and Rachel had probably done the same and he’d see it as innocent. He chuckled softly. “I think that’s a good idea.” He watched Kurt move and put his hand on Blaine’s chest. “You really do care about him don’t you?”
“Yeah, I really do.” Blaine admitted, beginning to smile uncontrollably at the thought. He honestly felt Kurt was one of the most important people in his life. He knew he most likely would never care about him the same amount that Burt did, but he thought Burt approved. Kurt began to hum slightly in his sleep.
“It's good to hear, I know Kurt cares about you greatly. He talks about you a lot” Burt found himself laughing at Kurt’s hum. “He must be dreaming about musicals, I’m not very good with songs and musicals but it sounds like a song I heard him sing the other day… Mr Cellophane or something like that” Burt thought for a minute. “Thank you Blaine, for being there for my son when I couldn’t and just well everything, so thank you” he leaned over with his hand out for Blaine to shake.
Blaine blushed a little at the fact that Kurt talked about him a lot. Kurt was sill humming, and Blaine looked down at him recognizing the song. “Yep, that’s Mr. Cellophane.” He said through a laugh. He watched Burt with respect as he began to thank Blaine, and shook his hand when it was offered to him. “You’re welcome. It’s never a problem for me, and I’ll always be there for him, no matter how this all turns out. Meaning you will never get rid of me.” Blaine added a joke hesitantly, not sure if right now was the right time for one.
Burt was pleased with himself that he got the song right. “You’re always welcome here Blaine, no matter how it turns out. I like you and I think you’re good for Kurt and that’s what matters.” Burt smiled letting Blaine know the joke was ok. Kurt gave Burt a kick in his sleep. “I think he either wants me to move or he’s trying to bust out some dance moves.” he laughed getting up.
“Well, he stopped humming, so the latter could very much be possible.” Blaine laughed and watched Burt get up and head towards the door. “Thanks for letting me stay, and just let me know when you want me to leave tonight.” Blaine said as Burt neared the exit. He looked back down at Kurt, who seemed to be peacefully sleeping. He stopped humming and smiled a small smile in his sleep, making Blaine smile in return.
“I think you should stay the night, its best for Kurt.” Burt said smiling leaving the room. He looked back watching Blaine smiling at Kurt; he smiled warmly at the two.
“Yeah, thanks Mr. Hummel.” Blaine said as Burt left. He was trying so hard to conceal his gigantic and goofy grin over the events of the entire night. Kurt’s other hand was now on Blaine’s chest, and he wondered when the sleeping beauty would awaken. Burt was gone from his sight so he leaned in and kissed Kurt in his sleep, just like the prince from the sleeping beauty did, proud of himself for the entire night.
