Kurt listened to Blaine and nodded, he was okay with playing the G chord, it was C that he really didn’t like. He strummed the strings correctly, it didn’t sound as perfect as when Blaine played it but he thought it sounded okay. Kurt did as Blaine asked and went straight to the C chord afterwards mucking that up as he tried to remember the strings.
The proud smile crept back on his face when Kurt strummed, sounding pretty good. He messed up when he tried to play C, so Blaine scooted around so that Kurt was almost in his lap, wrapping his arms around Kurt to show him where to put his fingers and showing him how to strum it. “Remember, don’t hit the string closest to you as you strum. Got it?”
Kurt felt Blaine move from his position on the bed and turned his head to see Blaine sitting behind him, he watched Blaine show him where his hands went and how to strum, it sounded perfect when Blaine demonstrated. “Yeah that string just doesn’t like me, i’ll try again” he smiled trying again, he did it a little better than before this time.
“See? Better already. Strum that chord until you feel comfortable with it, then try switching from G to C as you strum.” Blaine hoped he was being clear and being a good enough teacher, looking down at Kurt with the guitar in is lap and smiling. Kurt was right (like always), playing guitar was hot.
Kurt thought Blaine was a really good teacher he smiled over his shoulder at Blaine before doing as he said. He continued strumming that chord until he thought he was getting better. He made a few mistakes a first and then started to get better at it before trying to switch between the two chords. Like practising the C chord he made a few mistakes switching but he got used to it and became a bit better.
“Look at you. You’re doing great.” Blaine said honestly with a smile, watching Kurt as he played. He turned his head and quickly gave Kurt a kiss on the cheek as he played. “Practice makes perfect.” He said, letting Kurt practice this simple chord progression before teaching him a third chord that was in the song he asked for.
Kurt smiled as Blaine kissed his cheek and said how well he was doing. He was doing much better than the last time he played but then he was a pretty fast learner, he’d have to be if one wanted to get into performance no matter what kind. He carried on practising, proud as he made no mistakes changing and no longer hitting the forbidden string on the C chord.
Blaine started to clap for Kurt at how well he was doing, grinning as he did. “Kuurttt, you’re doing awesome! Ready to move on to another chord, or do you just want to keep playing that chord progression right there?” He asked, not wanting to rush Kurt at all.
Kurt grinned widely hearing Blaine clap for him, he was doing well and he was glad that someone as good at guitar as Blaine thought so. He thought he was ready to move onto another chord as long as it wasn’t mean like the C chord he would be pretty happy with it. Kurt nodded and looked at Blaine, with a huge smile on his face. “Yeah i think i’m ready,”
“Mkay. This next chord, you might not like it either…. it’s D. You only strum four strings, not the two that are closest to you. You put your fingers here….” Blaine paused, his hand going over Kurt’s to show him where to put his fingers. “…. and you only strum the bottom four strings. Okay? Let me show you.” Blaine took Kurt’s other hand and guided it down the strings, showing him how to strum D.

Kurt thought that the C chord sounded hard, this one he didn’t like the sound of at all. He watched Blaine’s hands move his own onto the right strings and his other hand being moved showing how to strum. When Blaine showed him, like always, it sounded absolutely perfect when he did it it sounded like he had stood on his neighbours cat’s tail.
“It’s okay. Try again, remember practice makes perfect.” Blaine said, giving Kurt a reassuring smile. He knew this wasn’t the easiest chord for Kurt, but he needed to know how to play it since it was one of the basic guitar chords. He showed Kurt how to play it again before pulling away and letting him try, wanting him to learn.
Kurt kept trying this chord really didn’t like him every attempt it sounded like he was getting worse and worse with it. He was getting a little frustrated, so he stopped for a minute to compose himself. After a minute he went back into it, it still wasn’t any better but he kept trying.
“It’s okay, it’s okay, I know this isn’t the easiest chord. You’ll get it soon enough, I promise.” Blaine said, wrapping his arms around Kurt in a reassuring hug as he stopped for a minute. He let go once Kurt started playing again, watching him and seeing a small improvement with the chord.

With Blaine’s promise Kurt kept trying, he didn’t know if he was getting any better it didn’t sound like it at all. He wasn’t going to let some chord beat him so he kept trying, even though it was frustrating he wasn’t going to give up. He had Blaine behind him encouraging him so he kept on going, he wasn’t going to quit and he was going to make Blaine proud.
Blaine could see that Kurt was getting better at this chord, making him smile. “You’re doing better, much better. Even if you can’t tell, I can. Doing the C chord first helped you, so now you’re not hitting the top two strings as much. You’re doing great, Kurt. Keep going.” Blaine said reassuringly, he didn’t want Kurt to worry too much about a chord, and he was getting better, like Blaine said.

Kurt looked over his shoulder and smiled at Blaine, leaning back a little to kiss his cheek, mouthing “thank you” to him before resuming with the guitar. He kept going over the D chord, strumming it and strumming it, it didn’t sound so awful now, it sounded okay but not good. He could live with that for now as long as he wasn’t piercing any ear drums with the awful sound of his previous attempts.
Blaine smiled as Kurt’s attempts to play D got better with each strum, Kurt was a fast learner. “Better already.” He said with a grin, saying other reassuring things to make his fiance feel better and not make him worry about his playing. “You’ll be perfecting that in no time. You’re doing awesome.”
Kurt was extremely lucky to be the fast learner that he was otherwise he’d be getting more and more frustrated. At the moment he wasn’t so frustrated as, like Blaine said, he was getting better. “Thank you, i know i must get annoying with constantly getting it wrong but i’m trying and like you said i’m getting better.”
“You’ll never be annoying. I promise. I know this particular chord is hard, but you’re getting better with each try. Trust me. I can tell. You’re doing great, awesome actually. Keep going.” Blaine was being one hundred percent honest, smiling as he spoke. He had an ear for this, and he could tell Kurt was improving.
Kurt leaned a little back into Blaine still trying to do this chord, it was official he hated this one wayyyy more than the C chord. He knew Blaine was telling the truth since they never lied to each other and was always completely honest. Kurt thought he was getting better too, just to make sure he could still do it he switched back to the C chord strummed that for a little bit before switching back to the D chord, remembering where his fingers went.
Blaine wrapped his arms around Kurt’s neck from behind when he leaned back into him, smiling and listening to him play. His smile grew when Kurt switched from C to D, proud that he could do it. He didn’t like those chords and had trouble, so he was glad Kurt could do it. “Kurt! That was great! Really good, you’re doing awesome. Do it again in a bit, that was good.”

Kurt smiled widely as Blaine spoke to him, he was really proud of it and he knew Blaine was too. He was going to try that again soon he just had to perfect the D chord as best he could. He kept on playing the same chord for a little while before trying again, he switched from D to C and back again and then D to G to C and back. He was smiling proudly as he did it.
Blaine wore a gigantic grin when Kurt switched between the three chords he knew, strumming them extremely well. He kissed his fiancee’s cheek, giving his neck a hug as he kept playing. “Kurt! That was great! Oh my god, that was fantastic! And to think, last week you thought playing guitar was incredibly hard. Keep doing that, that chord progression right there. Just go from G to C then back to G then D. It’s one of the most common ones, and it sounds great.”
Kurt was ecstatic by Blaine’s reaction, he knew he was making Blaine proud. Kurt listened to the chord progression and started doing as instructed going from G to C, strumming that three times and then back to G, strumming that again and then to D. He continued doing that, he thought it sounded pretty good he wasn’t sure what Blaine thought.
Blaine closed his eyes and leaned his chin on Kurt’s shoulder, arms still wrapped around him as he played the chord progression that was suggested, smiling and closing his eyes as he listened. “That’s great. You’re doing awesome. You’re awesome. It sounds good, keep going. You can stop if your fingers hurt in a bit, because they might.”
Kurt just couldn’t stop smiling, he was doing much better than the previous week when he tried. He felt Blaine’s chin on his shoulder making him smile more. Kurt continued playing, his fingers starting to sting a little from pressing down on the guitar strings. He nodded in reply to what Blaine said still going on for a little bit long. A few minutes later his fingers were hurting and he didn’t want to keep playing with sore fingers. “My fingers hurt so i stopped,” he informed Blaine turning his head a little to look at him.

Blaine opened his eyes when the guitar stopped, looking over at Kurt when he said his fingers hurt. He knew the familiar stinging feeling one got from playing guitar for too long, and he knew it hurt. His hand reached for Kurt’s and he lifted them to his lips, gently kissing each of the sore fingertips.
If hearts could explode from someone’s eyes then that would be happening to Kurt’s right now as he watched Blaine gently kisses his sore fingertips. He smiled at Blaine completely smitten, he couldn’t stop gazing as his completely adorable fiancee. “Thank you” he smiled more at him, his hand still in Blaine’s. He leaned a little more into him smiling up at him, one of Blaine’s arms still around his neck and Blaine’s chin on his shoulder.
“Anytime.” Blaine said against Kurt’s fingers, continuing to lightly kiss them and let them become less sore before seeing if Kurt could play again. His smile grew when Kurt leaned back against him, the kisses on Kurt’s fingertips still being light and gentle. He knew it would be a little bit before Kurt would play again, and he didn’t want Kurt to try and play when his fingers hurt, because it would make them hurt worse.

Kurt’s eyes fluttered shut his attention totally focusing on the kisses on his fingertips. With his spare hand he reached up and took Blaine’s spare hand and held it in his, bringing it to his lips and kissing that. Once he had kissed it he brought the joined hands to his cheek and leaned his cheek against them.
Blaine grinned when he felt Kurt take his spare hand, kissing it and leaning his cheek against it. “How are your fingers? Do they still feel sore?” He asked, continuing the kisses to Kurt’s fingertips. He wasn’t trying to rush Kurt, he just wanted to know how his fingers were feeling, since the stinging usually wasn’t pleasant.
“You have magic kisses” Kurt replied with a smile, the stinging hadn’t completely gone but it was fading. His eyes slowly fluttering open to smile up at Blaine before planting another kiss, a longer one, on Blaine’s hand. Kurt wasn’t going to give up the guitar just yet, he had done really well today and he wanted to do more, show Blaine what he could learn.

“Well thank you, but you didn’t answer my question babe.” Blaine said with a small laugh, still kissing Kurt’s fingers. He knew that, with Kurt’s determination, he would want to learn more guitar today, so Blaine wanted to be sure his fingers were less sore before he started playing again.
“Better. Thank you” Kurt smiled. “The soreness hasn’t completely gone but i don’t think it will for a while,” In a minute or two Kurt decided he would resume the guitar playing but for now, at least, he was going to just sit here, leaning against Blaine, hold his hand and his own fingers be kissed. Kurt was determined to, if possible, perfect those chords so when he next learnt he wouldn’t have to go over it as long as he had today.
“You’re welcome. The soreness should take a minute or two to die down more. You should wait that time, since trust me, you don’t want to play with stinging fingers.” Blaine said, his lips never leaving Kurt’s fingers as he continued to kiss them and make them feel that much better.
“Well its a good thing that i wasn’t going to go back to doing it for a minute or two then. This is nice so i just want to stay like this for that time. I can guess it would be most painful if i played with stinging fingers” Kurt’s eyes never left Blaine’s face, he still held onto Blaine’s hand and gave it a small squeeze of gratitude.
“I wouldn’t let you play anyways.” Blaine admitted, because he didn’t want Kur ltnto be playing with fingers that were sore. He felt the squeeze on the hand Kurt was holding, squeezing back and continuing to kiss his fingers while Kurt lay back against him. The guitar was still sitting in Kurt’s lap, but Blaine kept it there for when Kurt would play it again in a few minutes.

Kurt smiled as Blaine squeezed back on his hand, his eyes were still fixed on Blaine and his bare back leaning into Blaine’s bare chest. “You’re a very good teacher, did you know that?” Kurt asked hoping Blaine knew that, he really did think Blaine was a good teacher.
“I am?” Blaine asked, smiling. He had hoped he was being a good teacher, Kurt wanted to learn and he wanted to teach him guitar to the best of his ability. “I mean… I’m happy that you think I am. Really. It’s a great compliment. So I’m doing this teaching gig pretty well?”
“You’re going better than pretty well, you’re doing brilliantly” Kurt smiled kissing his cheek. “I wanted the best teacher and i got him, no one can teach me like you can.” It was true, he probably would have got more frustrated with someone else, not that he would let anyone else teach him.
“Well thank you. Really. I’m trying to be the best teacher for you… how’re those fingers? Still as sore, or do you want to jump back into the lesson?” Blaine asked, curious to how his fingers were feeling. He didn’t want Kurt to play if they still hurt, but if they didn’t it was a good idea to start again.
“You are the best teacher for me… the fingers? Oh they’re okay, the soreness is nearly gone” Kurt said looking down at the guitar and wondered whether he would be allowed back on it or not. Kurt didn’t know how long they had been playing but it seemed like they had been playing for a long time, not that it bothered him. The more time this used up the quicker they got to their date.
“Okay. I think you should start up again, because if you start playing when the soreness is completely gone, it will hurt worse afterwards.” Blaine gave Kurt’s fingers each one last kiss before pulling away and freeing both of his hands from Kurt’s, allowing him to start playing. “Go ahead. Keep doing the same thing you were doing before, that chord progression.”
Kurt didn’t want to let go of Blaine’s hands just yet but Blaine was right, if he didn’t start up now the soreness would be worse. He picked up the guitar and went straight back into what he was doing before his fingers started hurting, his fingers creating the G chord, strumming to a C then back to G and then to the D. His fingers hurt a little bit but he did expect it, he repeated the progression before looking at Blaine to see what he thought.
Blaine watched as Kurt picked up the guitar and started playing again, smiling proudly as he did. Kurt was doing much better than their last session, thanks to him being such a quick learner. He gave Kurt a thumbs up and said “You’re doing awesome.” when he saw Kurt look up at him, wanting to know if Kurt wanted to move on. “Do you want to keep playing that? Or should I teach you another chord?”
Kurt thought for a second, he could play that now and was doing really well with it, why not try a new chord. He would be on a roll, learning two in one day and perfecting the whilst remembering the previous ones and getting the chord progression right. “Another chord sounds like fun, is it a hard one? Harder than the D?”
Blaine thought for a moment, thinking up a chord to show Kurt and hoping that it would be easier. “A bit. You’ll have to hold down two strings with one finger, but I’ll show you how to do that. It isn’t as hard as it sounds. We could try that, if you want.” He suggested, wanting to see if Kurt would try the chord he had in mind.
One of Kurt’s eyebrows raised when he explained the next chord, he would have to hold two strings down with one finger? “Okay, we can try it there’s no harm in trying” He was looking at the strings then his hand, he was lucky he didn’t have little hands or that might be a problem.

Blaine smiled, positioning himself behind Kurt to show him where to put his fingers. It took a minute, showing him how to hold down two strings with the same finger, but once he had it, Blaine helped Kurt strum to show him how it was done. Once he did that a few times he let go of Kurt’s hands, letting him try for himself. “Oh, this is F by the way.”
Kurt watched Blaine move his hands to the right strings and help him strum them. He nodded when Blaine said it was an F, so he had to remember G, C, D and now F making him wonder if he had to switch between them when he got the F chord down. When Blaine released his hands Kurt tried by himself, he wasn’t actually that bad at this chord, it was easier than how Blaine described it.
Blaine leaned his chin back on Kurt’s shoulder, listening to him play and watching his fingers on the fret board. Kurt was playing this one pretty easily, which Blaine wasn’t sure if he would. He was glad that Kurt did, it made learning other chords easier once he had these basic ones down. “That’s good, really good. Keep strumming that. You’ve already gotten so much better at this instrument, I think it likes you more than last time.”
Kurt smiled, laughing a little at what Blaine said, last time the guitar didn’t like him and now he was doing so much better with it. “Well last time i wasn’t engaged to its daddy was i?” He loved feeling and knowing that Blaine right behind him and smiled at him when his chin rested on Kurt’s shoulder. He continued on trying to learn this chord, he liked this one more than D and C.
“Well, last time it knew I was going to ask you to marry me. That was probably it, the poor thing was jealous.” Blaine teased, leaning his head against Kurt’s as he played the new chord with much more ease than the previous two Blaine had taught him. A thought came to his head, making him grin insanely. “Technically, wouldn’t I be it’s papa? And you’d be it’s daddy?”
“Awww poor guitar” Kurt laughed he stopped playing for a second to stroke the guitar going back to play straight after. He leaned his head against Blaine’s after he did, looking at his hands playing the guitar. Kurt laughed at what Blaine said next, “well yes but last time you said you were its daddy.” He smiled and shook his head, Blaine treated the guitar like it was one of his children it was nice.
“Well yesssss, but last time we hadn’t decided on our parent names yet. I really like them, by the way. I see you more of a daddy than a papa, and I can see myself as a papa too.” Blaine said, smiling and closing his eyes again so he could just listen to the sounds of their voices, their breathing, and Kurt playing the guitar.
“I do too, i really really like them. Daddy and Papa, you’re a very cute Papa.” Kurt smiled continuing to play the guitar, his eyes wandered up to the clock they had been playing for an hour, it was now four thirty. He didn’t know what time they were going out so he wasn’t going to stop until Blaine told him to.
Blaine was wondering what time it was as he was listening to Kurt play, he didn’t want to cut into Kurt’s getting ready time. He figured that they should probably go out at six or six thirty, depending on the time. “Kuuuurrrrrttttt? What time is it?” He asked, keeping his eyes closed as he did.

Kurt smiled looking at Blaine who had his eyes shut, he clearly didn’t want to open them and Kurt wasn’t going to make him. “Its half past four” he said looking back at the clock and then back to Blaine. He took a hand off the guitar and rested it on Blaine’s cheek, stroking it, his other hand plucking at the guitar strings in a random order.
Blaine sat for a second, thinking. “Well, depending on how long it will take you to get ready, which you said should be forty minutes or so, and depending on what we want to do, we can go to dinner at six or six thirty. What time do you think we should go out?” He asked, a bit tired and having an idea he would play out after Kurt answered his question.
Kurt thought for a minute, he looked at Blaine who looked a little tired. He thought if they left a six they could be home earlier so Blaine could sleep, he was admittedly a little tired himself but Blaine looked more tired. “I think we should go out at six” he smiled.
“Alrighty. Six. That means you should start getting ready at 5:15 or 5:20. Sounds good to me.” Blaine said, now really wanting to do this idea. His hands felt around until he found his guitar in Kurt’s lap, and he took it out and set it on the floor. He opened his eyes and scooted so he was no longer behind Kurt, using his hands to gently push Kurt down so he was laying on the bed. Once Kurt was down, Blaine did the same and snuggled up against Kurt, resting his head on his chest and closing his eyes again.
