Someone just gave him more money than they had paid for their order.
For a tip.
And Blaine wasn’t even the one who had gotten the drink, he just handed the cup and took the money. It must have been a mistake. No one would do that. Ever. Right? Especially someone who looked as delicious as- Okay, Blaine had to get a grip on his thoughts before he went insane.
Except that was harder than it seemed.
Not only because of this tip thing, which was hard enough to wrap his head around. No, it was hard because he had just served the love of his life coffee. And then the love of his life gave him a 5 dollar tip for a 3 dollar cup of coffee.
Okay, Blaine wasn’t getting over this any time soon. Blaine decided to start calling him Blue Eyes in his head, in order to stop referring to the slender god-like man as the love of his life. After all, his eyes were kinda gorgeous. They hadn’t even spoken before, but that didn’t mean Blaine couldn’t crush on him. And crush he did. Hard.
Blaine knew that this mysterious Blue Eyes lived in the same building as him. He didn’t however, know his name. Blaine knew that Blue Eyes wore designers like McQueen all the time, but he didn’t know if Blue Eyes was in school or working, or what. Blaine knew that this man had the voice of an angel, as he had heard him singing quietly to himself, waiting in line at the caf. Blaine didn’t know who Blue Eyes was, or where he came from but Blaine did know that this guy had dropped right down into his life and Blaine wasn’t doing anything about it.
Wes and David gave him a hard time about it. Even though the both of them were attending Harvard (Wes for Medicine and David for Law), he still spoke to his two high school best friends almost every day. Blaine often whined about the beautiful boy he saw all the time, but nothing his friends said could convince him to introduce himself.
Except now he had a reason.
There was no way this 5 dollar bill was meant for a tip. Obviously Blue Eyes meant to leave a 1 dollar bill, but pulled out a five instead. So Blaine would go over to the table in the corner and return his 5 dollars. Most people would just take it and be happy but Blaine couldn’t do that. He couldn’t do that because it wasn’t the right thing to do, and he couldn’t do that because it might be his one and only chance to introduce himself.
Blaine grabbed the bill from the counter and, after seeing there was no one in line, turned to the corner Blue Eyes usually sat in. Except there was a girl sitting there with him. Blaine had never seen Blue Eyes smile that big, or laugh that hard, and it made him even more beautiful. Well, Blaine couldn’t interrupt Blue Eyes if he was with someone else. He’d just have to wait.
After twenty five minutes, spent nervously adjusting things that needed no adjusting, Blaine heard a phone ringing at the table he’d become attuned to. Looking up hopefully, he noticed the girl hold a finger up, as if to say ‘just a minute’ and then walk out of the caf, phone held to her ear.
This was his chance. Blaine was going to go talk to Mr. Blue Eyes. And they would fall hopelessly in love with each other and get married- whoa. This needed to stop. Making sure the bill was still nestled safely in his apron pocket, Blaine turned towards the table once again and forced himself to it, before he changed his mind and chickened out.
Blue Eyes was holding his phone, idly scrolling through apps, head resting on one hand. He had never looked more adorable to Blaine. Okay, this was it. He took the last step forward and cleared his throat before speaking.
“Um, hi. You left this on the counter earlier.”
Blue Eyes lifted his head up and turned his gaze to Blaine, then down at his outstretched hand, holding the bill. “And?”
“Well, I’m bringing it back to you. I mean, you left a five dollar bill.” Blaine held the bill out so Kurt could take it, but got a shock when his hand was gently pushed away.
“Yes Blaine, I left that for you on purpose. That is what one might call a tip. Generally given to people who work in the food industry.”
Blaine couldn’t decide what he liked more, the cheeky way Blue Eyes spoke or the way Blaine’s name sounded coming from his lips. Wait- “How do you know my name?” Blaine asked, shock evident on his face.
Blue Eyes stared pointedly at Blaine’s nametag, and Blaine felt his cheeks heat up as he followed the other man’s gaze. “Oh, uh, right. Of course.” Blaine cringed internally. He was such an idiot.
The blue eyes focused on Blaine’s hazel ones and a hand was extended towards him. “Kurt.”
Blaine simply stared. “What?”
“My name is Kurt. It’s a pleasure to officially meet you Blaine.” Kurt shook his own hand lightly in the air, forcing Blaine to acknowledge its presence. This caused Blaine to finally snap out of the trance he had fallen into.
“Kurt.” Blaine spoke faintly as he grasped the soft hand in his. “So um, wh-“
“Kurt! We have to leave right now. You’ll never believe who was just on the phone! Oh, hello.” Kurt’s friend had returned and Blaine had never cursed the female gender more in his life.
“Uh, I have to get back to work.” Blaine managed to get out as he quickly scurried back to his counter. His last words were whispered as he watched the man be pulled from the caf. “Bye, Kurt.”
At least he could stop calling him Blue Eyes now. Blaine considered that a huge step forward.

This sort of made me tear up... glad you like it!! <3 ~Heidi
blue eyes is an interesting solution to all the 'he's' 'him's' and 'his's'. of course, when i think of the nickname blue eyes, i think of frank sinatra–the old, white haired frank sinatra. this is blue eyes in my context. but of course, i like blue eyes in your context...and i will forever think of kurt (and chris) as the new blue eyes :)
Thank you so much for the review, it means so much to me! I didn't even make the connection to Sinatra until you mentioned it! Sorry for taking so long to reply, school is just awful. ~Heidi
