Blaine silently led Kurt to the little bar across the street, Ginny’s words still in the back of his mind. If Kurt really did like him, maybe now was the time to bring it up, because if even his daughter could see it, it had to be true. Then why was he so scared? Blaine didn’t think he’d been this scared to ask someone out since the first time he asked a guy for coffee. He figured the main problem was that he feared rejection, now more than ever. He knew it was slightly insane, but he couldn’t stand the thought of losing Kurt and what if Blaine asked him out and he never wanted to see him again? He pushed these thoughts away, together with the door of the bar, smiling at Kurt and letting him go in first. They sat down at a small table in the corner and the man who had been standing behind the bar came up to them.

“Blaine!” He said, his voice deep, cheerful and friendly – just the way a bartender’s voice is supposed to be. “Good to see you, old chap! What can I get you and your friend here?”

“Um.” Blaine noticed Kurt raising an amused eyebrow at him. “Just a beer for me, I think. Kurt?”

“A gin and tonic, please, thank you.” Kurt said politely. The barman nodded and walked off to get them their drinks. “On first name basis with the bartender? Regular, are we?” He inquired nonchalantly. Blaine laughed and shook his head.

“No. I actually haven’t been here in months.” He swatted Kurt’s arm softly when he smirked at him in disbelief. “I just had a – a rough break up a while back. Let’s just say anyone would’ve remembered me after that night.”

“I’m not sure if I should feel sorry for you or laugh.” Kurt said seriously.

“Oh, it’s definitely a funny story.” Blaine smiled. “I thought he was the one or something. Looking back, I realize how stupid that was because – well anyway, he broke it off with me for obvious reasons.”

“Obvious? What reasons could there possibly be to break up with you?” Kurt frowned in what seemed genuine surprise and Blaine shrugged, trying to ignore his heart once more.

“Single dad? Writer? Who happens to have a strange sense of humor? People aren’t exactly jumping at the chance to run off with me into the sunset, you know. I mean, sometimes they try for a while, but it never lasts.” Way to talk to a potential boyfriend, Blaine scolded himself mentally.

“Ginny told me – um. Well, she told me when she showed me around today.” Kurt rubbed his hands together nervously. “She said that your last boyfriend broke up with you in your study, cause he thought she wouldn’t hear that way. And that he told you he couldn’t share you with her.” Blaine was silent. He didn’t know that she had heard that. It had been a year, but it still hurt a little. He had made him choose. A choice between him and his daughter was easily made, but it had still been a harsh crash with reality, because that was basically what it always boiled down to. That choice. “I’m sorry. God, I shouldn’t have mentioned that.” Kurt muttered.

“Well, I guess I can’t deny that.” Blaine smiled softly. “It was completely insane, though. I don’t know why he expected me to make a choice at all. I mean, she’s very important to me and no one can blame me for wanting to be father to her, instead of that man that happens to look like her.” Kurt smiled.

“I think you were right. I think it’s very admirable.”

“Thank you. You’re the first man to ever tell me that, you know?”

“It’s true. It makes you a strong man, Blaine. I – I have a lot of – respect for that.”Blaine smiled and looked up as the bartender came to bring their drinks.

“It’s on the house!” He said happily. Blaine tried to protest, but he waved it away and walked back to the bar. Blaine looked at Kurt, who shrugged and picked up his glass, motioning for Blaine to follow his lead.

“To great pasta, friendly people and good choices.” Kurt said.

“To the future. May it be great.” They clinked their glasses.

“Very poetic, Blaine.”

“Writer, remember?” Kurt giggled softly while taking a sip from his drink, looking at Blaine over the top of his glass.

“Speaking of which. Is it going any better with that yet?” He asked after he put his glass back down.

“A lot better actually.” Blaine replied happily. Kurt looked impressed.

“Really? What changed?”

“Got some wonderful advice from a wonderful man.” Blaine smiled, feeling rather proud of him for throwing that into the conversation. Kurt cocked an eyebrow and grinned.

“Well, must’ve been some guy, then.”

“Certainly was.” Blaine nodded. “Shame he’s so ugly.” He added playfully.

“Bet he’s great in bed though.” Kurt said casually and Blaine blushed.

“Who knows?” He shrugged, trying to keep his face straight.

“I do.”

Blaine almost choked on his beer.

---

An hour, lots of talking and one and a half drinks later Blaine noticed the buzzing feeling in his head. Talking became an increasingly more difficult task and knew that Kurt had to be feeling the same. He decided that he didn’t want to end up wasted and that it was time to call it a night.

“Kurt.” He put his hand on Kurt’s shoulder, feeling him lean in to the touch happily. “Kurt, I think it’s time to go.”

“Why?” Kurt giggled. “I’m having fun. You’re fun. You’re a fun man, mister Anderson.”

“You’re really fun, too, Kurt Hummel.” Blaine smiled brightly, getting off his chair “But we have to go, it’s late.” Blaine daringly grabbed Kurt’s hand and tried to pull him up. Kurt squealed and pulled back until Blaine was almost in his lap.

“I think you’re just trying to whisk me away for your evil plans.” Kurt whispered in his ear. “What are you planning to do with me?” Blaine’s breath hitched at the low purr that Kurt produced, making his head spin even more.

“Well, you’ll just have to find out for yourself, don’t you think?” Blaine got back up again, holding out his hand for Kurt, who took it, pulled himself up and linked his arm through Blaine’s.

“Let’s go then.” He grinned at Blaine, pulling him a little closer. Blaine waved at the bartender, who shot him a look and Blaine nodded at him, silently promising to be careful. They walked back over to the other side of the street, Kurt clutching Blaine’s arm and pulling him close. Blaine was secretly glad that he had the extra support, because he didn’t quite trust his legs at the moment and seeing as Kurt almost tripped when they stepped down from the sidewalk onto the road, he needed the support to. So they were leaning happily into each other, walking over to the door leading to Blaine’s apartment. Blaine grabbed the key and managed to somehow open the door and still had the presence of mind to hold open the door for Kurt. He also attempted a bow, which failed miserably, because he almost fell over, but Kurt didn’t seem to mind.

“You know, Blaine.” Kurt slurred, looking around the living room. “Your living room.” A pause. “Is really big.”

“Yes.” Blaine stated, walking into the kitchen to get himself a glass of water.

“It’s so big,” Kurt said “it reminds me of…” Another pause as Blaine took the glass out of a cupboard. “A ballroom! That’s it!” Kurt’s excited voice made Blaine smile. He filled the glass and took a sip when Kurt piped up again. “Oh! I have an idea! Blaine! Blaine Anderson!” He came skipping into the kitchen. Or at least, it was probably supposed to be skipping, but the drunk version of it.

“Huh?” Kurt took the glass out of his hands and pulled him back to the living room.

“Dance with me, Blaine Anderson.” Kurt said happily.

“What?” Blaine could hardly protest when Kurt took his hand and placed the other one on Blaine’s shoulder.

“Dance with me.” Kurt whispered and Blaine could not do anything but oblige. He placed his free hand on Kurt’s hip and together they danced. Or at least, they tried to. Their feet didn’t quite move well and they stumbled their way through the room. Blaine stood on Kurt’s toes and Kurt kicked Blaine in the shin, but that didn’t really matter. They waltzed drunkenly, without any music or any elegance and then they turned. The light that came peeking through the window caught in Kurt’s eyes and Blaine’s breath hitched. The beauty of it stopped Blaine in his tracks, causing Kurt – who hadn’t been in on this development – to almost fall. Blaine pulled him back up, looking him in the eyes once again.

“What?” Kurt asked with a slight pout.

“You’re beautiful.” Blaine whispered to Kurt and in a moment of bravery he pulled the other man closer to him, continuing their dance, even though it had now become more like swaying. Kurt stared back at Blaine, letting go of his hand, in favor of wrapping his arms around Blaine’s neck. Blaine, in turn, snaked his arms around Kurt’s waist and breathed in Kurt’s scent.

“You’re not half bad, yourself.” Kurt whispered back, swaying closely against Blaine. Kurt moved his head, softly pressing his cheek into Blaine’s. The heat radiating from both their cheeks was a bit overwhelming, but Blaine didn’t care and Kurt didn’t seem to, either. Their movement seemed to slow down and Blaine was very much aware of how close Kurt was and how good he smelled and how nicely he seemed to fit into his arms. Kurt then slowly moved his hips a little, pressing against Blaine, which made him realize that he’d been half-hard and that Kurt was, too. Blaine instinctively tightened his grip around Kurt’s waist, pulling him closer and he heard Kurt let out a shuddering breath against his neck. Blaine moved one of his hands up over Kurt’s back, resisting the urge to let the other one move down to his ass. And then they just stood there, moving with each other. It wasn’t like anything Blaine had ever experienced before – slow, sensual and intimate. His knees felt week, but he didn’t think that was because of the alcohol anymore.

“Kurt.” He whispered against his neck and Kurt gasped softly in reply. “Kurt, we’re drunk.”

“I know.” Kurt pulled back a little bit, his hands moving to run through Blaine’s hair.

“I don’t – “ Blaine paused, allowing himself to stare at the deep blue of Kurt’s eyes, because he was quite positive he could drown in there and boy, what a way to go. “I don’t think you should drive home tonight.” He didn’t know what he was doing. What was he aiming for? What was he trying to achieve? “You should – Maybe you should stay here.”

“You know, Blaine.” Kurt murmured, his cheeks red from heat or alcohol. “Do you know what I think you should do?”

“I don’t.”

“You should kiss me.”
