To Ginny and Kurt.
The best family a man could ever wish for.

“And finally I would like to thank my editor, publisher, friends and family. Except Cooper, he was no help at all.” A boo erupted from the back of the room and everyone laughed as Blaine continued with a smile. “Honestly, without your support I wouldn’t have made it here today. Thank you.” The crowd clapped for him as he stepped off the platform he’d been standing on to give his speech. It had been a year. A year since he’d made the overexcited phone call to his editor that he’d found it, he’d found the perfect idea for a book. And here they were, at the presentation of Blaine’s new novel. Blaine spotted Kurt, his smile brighter than anyone else’s. Blaine wanted to go to him, hug him and kiss him and not leave his side for the rest of the evening, but halfway on the way, he was pulled away. Another prominent author insisted on complimenting Blaine and his novel at length and Blaine shot Kurt an apologetic look. Kurt smiled, nodded and disappeared into the crowd.

Half an hour later Blaine finally managed to pull himself away from his guests and went to look for Kurt. He found him sitting on a chair at the back of the room, a copy of the book on his lap. Kurt smiled brightly when he saw Blaine appear and raised his hand in a small wave.

“There you are.” Blaine smiled. “I see you’ve gotten your hands on that book everyone keeps talking about.”

“I did indeed, it’s rubbish, though.” Kurt said with a smirk.

“Oh, I agree. Worst thing ever.” Blaine leaned down and kissed Kurt shortly and sat down next to him. Kurt opened the book, running his finger over the first page.

“I like your dedications.” He said softly.

“Me too.” Kurt stared at the page, obviously holding back a grin and then tapped his finger on the paper.

“See, this is why I always thought you were straight.” Blaine shot him a puzzled look. “I thought Ginny was your girlfriend.” Kurt explained and they both laughed.

“Kurt, I think that might be illegal.”

“So I’ve heard.” They both sat in a comfortable silence, smiles plastered on their faces. “I like the ‘family’ bit.” Kurt said after a while. “It’s nice.” Blaine bit his lip. He agreed, it was nice and honestly, he had planned to wait. He wanted to wait until they were alone. But somehow he felt that this was right. Now was the time.

“Yeah, about that…” Kurt looked up, taking Blaine in. “I – um.” Blaine laughed nervously and Kurt frowned.

“Blaine?” Kurt started to look worried and Blaine reached out and took his hand.

“I – God, this is not what I’d planned. At all.” Blaine took a deep breath and looked Kurt in the eye. “I mean it. You’re family to me. I love you more than anything – more than coffee and reading and lazy afternoons on the couch.”

“Well, that sounds like some serious affection.” Kurt smiled fondly.

“It is. God, Kurt, it is.” He squeezed Kurt’s hand and swallowed thickly. “I wanted to ask you – Kurt, you make me so happy and you make me feel loved more than ever. I hope –“ He reached inside his jacket and he heard Kurt gasp softly as he pulled out the small box. “ – I hope you’d make me even happier and really become my family.” He opened the little box and he saw Kurt bite back a grin. “Marry me?”

Kurt then started laughing, clutching his stomach and tears in his eyes, and Blaine’s heart dropped. He just proposed and Kurt was laughing at him.

“Kurt?” Blaine whispered brokenly, letting go of Kurt’s hand.

“Oh dear, Blaine, sweetie.” Kurt wiped away a tear and he stopped laughing, although he was still smiling widely.

“God, I knew it was a stupid idea.” Blaine shook his head; this was too much. All he wanted was to run away and hide.

“No!” Kurt grabbed Blaine’s hand in both of his and smiled at Blaine, a small giggle still escaped his lips. “No, it’s not stupid at all. Oh dear me.”

“Kurt, you’re laughing at me. I guess that says enough.”

“Blaine, honey.” Kurt kissed him quickly to shut him up. “I’m laughing, because I – well – I was going to propose to you when we got home. I even asked Ginny for permission and everything.” Blaine’s mouth dropped. “Guess you beat me to it.”

“You – you asked Ginny?” Blaine asked breathlessly, genuinely touched.

“Yeah.” Kurt nodded. “It only seemed fair, I mean, she had you first. Luckily enough, she agreed to share.”

“When did you ask her?”

“Um – Tuesday?” Kurt frowned. “Does it matter?”

“I raised a woman of lies and cheating.” Blaine mumbled, frowning at the wall.

“Huh?”

“I asked her if I could ask you on Wednesday.” Blaine shrugged and Kurt giggled. “She said nothing!”

“Well, that would’ve ruined the surprise, wouldn’t it?”

“I suppose it would have, yes.” Blaine nodded. Blaine moved his chair so that he could rest his head on Kurt’s shoulder and let Kurt wrap his arm around him. Then it was silent again and they just sat there for a while, happy in each other’s presence.

“Kurt?” Blaine asked after some time had passed and Kurt hummed in response. “Kurt, you haven’t actually said yes or no yet.” Kurt laughed.

“Well, would you like to try again?”

“I think I would. Only if you promise to still ask me later.”

“Deal.” Blaine smiled as he got up and pulled Kurt up with him. Blaine then got on his knee in front of Kurt, who held his hand up to his heart and grinned widely.

“Dear Kurt, would you, pretty please, do me the honor of becoming my husband?”

“Yes.” Kurt laughed again, but so different. This time it was the bubbly kind of laughter that you can’t keep back because you’re just so happy. It was the kind of happiness that makes you cry. “Yes, a thousand times yes.” Blaine got up quickly and threw his arms around Kurt’s neck.

“I love you.” Blaine whispered against Kurt’s skin.

“Blaine.” Kurt hummed back. “Blaine, you skipped the part where you put the ring on it.”

“Shhh.” Blaine muttered. “Let me hold my fianc for a bit, okay?”

“Fianc. I like the sound of that.”

“So do I.”

End Notes: That's it. The story has come to an end, even though it's only just begun. I wanted to end this particular story at this point, because it felt appropriate and I didn't want to lose the dynamic by stretching it any more BUT that doesn't mean I don't have any ideas left about Blaine's, Kurt's and Ginny's lives, so I've decided to write a couple of short stories in this same verse I'll probably post them on here, but you can also find them on my Tumblr (plumey :)) under the Books and Fabrics tag! Thank you guys so much for reading! You've been amazing!
