Chapter 15:
"I just can't believe this is happening, Blaine." Kurt sniffed into his lovers shoulder as tears rolled down his cheeks. "How could anyone want us dead? Just because of who we are?....Blaine?" Kurt sat up a little and wiped his eyes so he could see past the tears. "Blaine?" He questioned again, but got no response. Blaine was just lying there, staring at the ceiling like it had deeply offended him.
"BLAINE!" He yelled, trying to snap him out of his trance. "DAD, CAROLE HELP!!" He shouted downstairs and then continued trying to get Blaine's attention, but he was completely irresponsive. Kurt's heart was beating out of his chest and hands were shaking violently. What's happening? He thought to himself as he tried desperately not to panic, but nothing worked. "Blaine!" He continued to yell.
Burt, Carole, and Cooper were soon in the room. Burt pulled Kurt, who was now hysterical, off of Blaine, and Carole went to see what was happening. Before she could even asses his state, he slipped completely out of consciousness and his eyes closed.
"BLAINE! NO!" Kurt shrieked and pulled away from his Dad's grip. "Blaine wake up! BLAINE!" Kurt fell down onto the bed next to Blaine and sobbed uncontrollably. "What does this mean? Is Blaine going to die? Please Blaine, wake up!"
"KURT!" A firm woman's voice pulled him out of his hysterical trance. "He's just passed out, calm down. We're going to wait outside so it isn't too daunting for him when he wakes up, but you will need to be very calm when he does. Talk to him gently. Ask him what he was thinking of, just don't upset him any further."
Kurt took a deep breath as he absorbed the information in. "Okay." He agreed and felt the people behind him leave the room. He took a few more deep breaths to calm himself down, before taking Blaine's hand, ready for him to wake up.
After only 20 seconds, Kurt felt Blaine move slightly. He had to go against everything in his body, to stop himself from throwing his arms around Blaine and breaking down then and there, but he kept calm and began slowly stroking his thumb backwards and forwards on Blaine's hand. Blaine's eyes started to slowly open and he looked so peaceful, then in a split second everything flooded back to him and his eyes were filled with fear, he let go of Kurt's hand as if it offended him, stood up, ignoring the blinding pain in his chest, and ran for the door.
Kurt sprung into action and locked his arms on Blaine's hips from behind. "LET ME GOOOO!" Blaine yelled as he fought against Kurt's hold.
Kurt kept his grip strongly on Blaine's waist, so he wouldn't hurt Blaine's ribs, but had full hold of him, which was hard seeing as Blaine was very strong when he wanted to be. "Blaine, calm down. Talk to me."
"I DON'T WANT TO TALK TO YOU, KURT! LET ME GO! I DON'T WANT TO TALK TO ANYONE!"
Kurt kept his voice calm and held even tighter. "Sweetie, calm down, I know this is hard but-"
"YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS! HOW COULD YOU POSSIBLY KNOW HOW THIS FEELS?"
"Because Blaine!" Kurt said a little louder than intended, but he couldn't help it, how could Blaine accuse him of not knowing how this felt when they were both in the exact same boat, "The man who attacked me was trying to kill me! The guy who attacked you was trying to kill you! We're feeling the exact same things here, Blaine! Only you're acting selfish and like it only affects you!"
"MY PARENTS TRIED TO KILL ME! THAT IS NOTHING COMPARED TO HOW YOU ARE FEELING! MY OWN PARENTS, WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO LOVE ME, TRIED TO TAKE MINE, AND YOUR LIFE! SO NO, KURT WE ARE NOT FEELING THE SAME THINGS, SO DON'T YOU DARE CALL ME SELFISH WHEN YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO HAVE YOUR OWN PARENTS HATE YOU SO MUCH THEY WANT YOU DEAD!" Blaine broke free of Kurt's hold and turned to face him.
Kurt looked at Blaine and his heart broke. The moment the words left Blaine's lips, Kurt realised he shouldn't have said Blaine was selfish, when he was the one going around pretending they were both going through the same stuff, and didn't even notice just how much Blaine alone, was affected by this. He'd spent half an hour crying to Blaine about how it affected him, or them, but really, when he thought about it, it probably should have been the other way round.
"Why don't they love me?" The sound of Blaine's broken voice pulled Kurt out of his thoughts. He looked up from where he had been focusing on the floor and saw massive tears slowly trickling down Blaine's cheeks as he began to shake. He let out a single broken sob. "What horrid thing have I done in my life to make them hate me so much that they want me dead?"
Kurt didn't have an answer, so instead, he opened his arms and let Blaine fall into him. Kurt managed to maneuver them back onto the bed, so they were sitting and placed a kiss onto Blaine's head as Blaine cried into Kurt's neck. Kurt didn't have the answers to Blaine's questions, he honestly didn't know how anyone couldn't love Blaine. All he could do for now was hold the broken man in his arms, and let him know that he was loved by someone at least, and that his parents didn't deserve him, until finally after about an hour, Blaine had cried himself to sleep. It was about 11 at night now, and Blaine was still in his pajamas from earlier, so Kurt laid him down on the bed, and crawled under the covers with him, holding Blaine in his arms, as he too drifted off to sleep.
-
Blaine woke up the next morning and everything hurt. He groaned in pain as he opened his eyes. He felt a soft hand stroke his cheek and press a kiss to his forehead. "Kurt?" He asked, as he tried to sit up, but was struck down by pain. He winced and lied back down.
"Shh, I'll get your pain medication, all that crying and fighting against me must have really hurt your ribs. You just wait here." Kurt said gently, as he left the room.
He returned a minute later with Blaine's medication and a glass of water. Blaine took the medicine, trying not to make eye contact with Kurt. Blaine tapped out a rhythm trying to distract from the fact that this was really awkward.
"I'm sorry!" They both burst out a few moments later. "No I'm sorry!" They said in sync again.
"Blaine please, just listen to me. I'm so sorry, I'm not saying this isn't hard on me, but I never considered how you felt, I was selfish and then I accused you of being selfish, so I'm sorry please forgive me?" Kurt asked, taking Blaine's good hand.
"No, Kurt. I know this is probably harder on me, but that doesn't mean that someone didn't try to kill you! I shouldn't have acted like it all revolved around me. I'm so sorry. I'm also sorry for yelling at you when we could have talked about this like adults, and I guess I'm also sorry for having an emotion breakdown on your shoulder..."
"Oh, Blaine. Let's just say, we're both sorry, and we're both forgiven? And we've been together for four years, you hardly have to apologies for crying. I've seen you cry plenty before, you know?"
"Yeah, but never like that, I'm sorry, I'm supposed to stay strong in this, so you can remem-"
Blaine was cut off by a firm pair of lips pressing against his, and he eagerly reciprocated the gesture. When Kurt pulled away he left their foreheads together, which was slightly uncomfortable, seeing as Blaine was lying down, but neither of them cared.
"It's okay for you to be upset Blaine, there's no problem with being upset, just because I can't remember some stuff, it does not affect our relationship, okay? We are equals. Always have been, always will be." Kurt whispered against Blaine's lips.
"I love you." Blaine replied, it was a simple response, but nothing could mean more to either of them.
"I love you too." Their lips joined once more in a kiss, only to be disturbed by a knock at the door.
"Boys, it's uh, 9 o'clock, Coop still needs to tell you some stuff, and he's gotta be going soon. Can I come in? Are you decent?" Came Burt's voice from outside.
"Dad! Kurt squealed. "It's not like we can do anything, Blaine has a broken nose, arm and ribs!"
Burt opened the door tentatively, making Blaine giggle and Kurt blush even more. He soon relaxed when he saw Blaine was in pajamas, and Kurt was wearing the same clothes as the night before.
"Oh, uh, right. So be down in half an hour okay?" Burt said, before leaving the room in a truly awkward Burt style. Then again, anyone would be awkward if you had seen that Kurt Elizabeth Hummel had gone to sleep in his new Alexander McQueen's!
Kurt and Blaine were soon entering the living room, only to be met by Carole, Burt, Cooper, and a police officer.
Kurt felt Blaine tense up next to him, so he took his hand and squeezed it gently. It seemed to help, as Blaine relax and squeeze back.
"What's going on?" Kurt asked.
Everyone looked around the room at each other, until finally Cooper spoke up. "Well, sit down first, you two."
Kurt and Blaine sat next to each other on the sofa, and Blaine quickly put a protective arm around Kurt's side, as if shielding him from whatever they were about to be told.
"What's going on?" Blaine said, repeating Kurt's words for him.
"Well, the problem is, in New York, people are much more open about homosexuality, whereas, this trial will have to take place in Ohio, so..."
"So people won't be so accepting." Blaine finished for him. "We know that, but we might as well try right?"
"Exactly." The officer agreed. "But, it may be to your advantage if you were to make a statement in court against them. I understand if this makes you unco-"
"Okay." Blaine said, before Kurt could even say anything against it. "I'll do it."
