"Kurt, go."
"I'm not leaving you here with him!" Kurt yelled.
"GO!" Blaine yelled back, and then cried out in pain as his dad's fist impacted with his face.
"NO! LET HIM GO DAMMIT!" Kurt screamed out, trying to break free of Blaine's Mothers grip.
Another hit slammed against Blaine's face.
Kurt screamed out for help as he broke free of Blaine's Mother's hands. He pelted toward Blaine, but with one shove from Blaine's Father, he found himself thrown out of the door and onto the front garden. The door slammed in his face and he heard the fight continue inside.
"YOU WANT TO BRING YOUR FAGGY SELF AND YOUR FAGGY BOYFRIEND BACK HERE TO MY HOME BEHIND MY BACK? NO, BLAINE. I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU HERE EVER AGAIN. DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR? IF THIS WON'T TEACH YOU, NOTHING WILL!"
-
"How is he?" Kurt asked, jumping out of his seat as a Doctor approached him, Burt and Carole.
"He's broken two of his ribs, which will be fine to heal on their own, he broke his nose, which we've reset, he also broke his arm falling and he's currently in surgery for that, you can come and wait in his room until he's done, he won't be much longer."
"O-o-kay. Thank you." They all followed after the doctor and sat down in a private room. It was only ten minutes before Blaine was wheeled inside on a bed, he was covered in bruises and cuts, his nose was swollen and had tape over the top of it. He also had a split lip and his arm was in a cast halfway past his elbow. He looked so tiny in the hospital bed, and as Kurt caught sight of him, everything around him froze. He let out a choked sob and ran to Blaine's bedside, taking his uninjured hand in his. How could someone do this to their child?

"YOU WANT TO BRING YOUR FAGGY SELF AND YOUR FAGGY BOYFRIEND BACK HERE TO MY HOME BEHIND MY BACK? NO, BLAINE. I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU HERE EVER AGAIN. DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR? IF THIS WON'T TEACH YOU, NOTHING WILL!"
Blaine felt a hand slam into his side and a loud sickening crunch echoed throughout the room. He fell back onto the floor as his Father continued to kick him in the chest. He tried to stand up but he was slammed back down and he hit the floor, his arm gave way beneath him with another crack and he screamed out in pain.
His Dad took a drunken swagger towards him and spat in his face. "Vermin." He muttered, gave Blaine one last kick for good measure, picked him up over his shoulder and threw him back outside the house, next to where Kurt was already on the phone to an ambulance.
Blaine then felt Kurt take his hand as his world went hazy around him. He could hear Kurt begging him to stay awake, but he just couldn't do it. He closed his eyes to the sound of sirens approaching.
-
Blaine opened his eyes slowly, everything around him was fuzzy, but slowly coming into focus. The first thing he noticed, upon trying to sit up, was the familiar pain in his chest. Broken ribs. Again. Great. He thought to himself. This had happened so many times before he was used to it. He tried to evaluate the other damage but a familiar voice shook him out of his well practiced trance
"Blaine! It's okay, Blaine. I'm here." He heard the voice say, he looked in its direction and saw the outline of Kurt. His heart warmed in his chest and he felt a hand squeeze his gently. This was the first time he'd woken up to something other than his parents scowling down on him.
"Kurt?" He asked gently, the figure came more into focus and he saw Kurt, looking at him, clearly trying not to cry. He remembered all of the attack, and instantly realised Kurt had taken a few punches too. He tried to sit up, to get a better view of his boyfriend and see if he was alright, but was shot down by the pain in his chest. He sighed and settled for just asking. "Are you okay, Kurt? Please tell me they didn't hurt you too badly!"
"I'm completely fine, Blaine! You're the one with four broken bones for Christ sake!" Kurt laughed feebly. "How are you feeling?"
"Eh, nothing I'm not used to. I'm guessing two broken ribs on my left, broken nose which they reset and a broken arm I had surgery for?" Blaine said sarcastically.
"How did you-"
"It's my fourth time in hospital because of him. I'm pretty good at guessing now."
Burt, Carole and Kurt's hearts all shattered. How was Blaine being so casual about it? He was acting like nothing had happened at all, but he was in hospital. The boy just didn't seem to care. He was just making a joke out of it.
"Blaine, sweetie. I'm so sorry about your Father." He heard a woman say. He suddenly realised he'd only looked at Kurt. He'd been focusing on him since he woke up. To his surprise, Burt and Carole were there too.
"S'okay. I guess I learned my lesson. Disowned really means don't ever see us again." Blaine shrugged.
"Blaine...it's okay to be upset. I mean he's your Dad." He heard Kurt say, and it suddenly came to his realisation that Kurt was leaning on his own Dad, and Carole's arm was around Kurt's waist. The way they looked like a family stung Blaine in the chest. It was too much, he'd just been beaten half to death by his own "family" and now he had to look at one? He just couldn't do it.
"Can you maybe leave me alone please?" He asked quietly.
Burt and Carole seemed to understand and stood up to go, leaving Blaine alone with Kurt. That's what alone usually meant anyway. Burt gave him a soft pat on the shoulder, and Carole kissed his head, and then they left the room. He looked to Kurt.
"You too." He said even quieter.
"Blaine...please. I know you. You shut people out when things happen, but not me, please don't. I know how much you need someone right now."
"Please just go, Kurt. I've done this before on my own, I can do it again."
He saw tears form in Kurt eyes, as the man placed a soft kiss to his lips and left the room as asked. A nurse entered shortly after. "You're up! I'll run some tests and if everything's okay, you'll be out of here in three days. Now, about visitors, I let them in because they were with you after the accident. Do you want me to let them in again, or just family for now?"
"Nobody. I don't want anybody!" Blaine said a little louder than anticipated. The nurse continued to do her tests in silence after that.
-
Three days later, as predicted Blaine was ready to be let out of hospital. He was still on strong pain medication and had to return to Lima in six weeks to have his cast removed and have his ribs checked on.
Every single day he was in hospital, Kurt had apparently tried to visit, only to be shot down by nurses. Blaine could hear every single conversation they had had, seeing as Kurt had made it as far as his door every day, and every conversation made him even more guilty of the reason he was trying to shut Kurt out; he was jealous. He was so overwhelmingly jealous it made him feel sick. He just wanted his birth family to love him? Was that too much to ask?
He also wanted to hear what ‘news' Kurt had for him. It sounded important, and Blaine was hoping it was that he'd remembered something. But all he had managed to gather from the conversations, was that in ten minutes, Kurt was going to be arriving to pick him up. Blaine had asked the nurse to make sure he came alone. The last thing he wanted was to have Kurt's family rubbed in his face. It was bad enough he'd sure as hell be going back to Kurt's parent's house.
Ten minutes later, Kurt and his nurse entered the room. Blaine's original clothes we're ruined and covered in blood, so much to his dismay, he'd be leaving the hospital in his hospital gown, which he had to return the next day. But, being Kurt, Kurt had come with a brand new pair of sweatpants and a brand new T-shirt that was too big (so it didn't ruin his bandages).
"I thought you could use these so I picked them up on the way here..." Kurt said quietly, holding out the clothes.
"Thanks...er, I'll be right back." Blaine responded, taking the clothes trying to ignore the awkward tension in the room.
Blaine re-entered the room about five minutes later, with red puffy eyes and nothing on his top half except bandages. "I can't...." He said quietly, becoming embarrassed, and very relieved the nurse had left the room.
"Oh, love." Kurt said sympathetically, and went to help Blaine into his t-shirt.
Blaine was trying really hard to not just fall into Kurt's arms then and there. He knew he was going to be upset going back to Kurt's house, so he was desperately trying not to raise Kurt's hopes, just to smash them 15 minutes later. Blaine winced slightly as he had to raise his arms into the shirt and Kurt immediately stopped. "Am I hurting you?" He asked timidly.
"It's fine. Trust me, I'm used to it by now. I just need a little bit of help raising my left arm into the shirt."
"I've got a better idea." Kurt said, pulling the t-shirt back over Blaine's head. He rolled the shirt to just a small hole, and slid it up Blaine's left arm, which was the same one in the cast as well as the side with the broken ribs, he then stretched it to the right and put the head hole over Blaine's head, and Blaine was fine to put his right arm in from the inside. "There. I knew I got one 3 sizes too big for a reason." He said simply, and kissed Blaine's forehead. "Now let's get you back to my parent's house."
My parent's house.
Blaine tried really hard to ignore the phrase as he and Kurt left the hospital. He hated the fact he had to lean on Kurt to walk properly the entire way out. This whole trip was supposed to be about Kurt, but his stupid parent's had got in the way. He knew Kurt would remember one day. He just wanted it to be now. He wanted this to be over, especially so they could have gone back to New York sooner, and he wouldn't have to deal with watching a family when he had so recently lost his own.
-
"Blaine! You're back! I was so worried about you!" Carole said, trying to give him a hug, he shrugged her off and muttered something about his ribs. "OHMYGOD! I'm so sorry! I completely forgot you're probably so sore!" Blaine just nodded in a weird way and went upstairs to Kurt's room.
"He's probably tired." Kurt suggested. "He's on a lot of meds."
"Are you sure, kid. I've got a feeling he just doesn't want to be around us." Burt suggested. "First the hospital, now this. I'm worried about the poor kid. I know he likes to put on a brave face, and he tries to dedicate his whole life to making you okay, but I can't even imagine what he's going through right now. I think he's really bothered by this. I should probably say something..."
"No, I'm sure he's fine." Kurt lied. "I'll go check on him."
