Blaine was running as fast as he could down the corridors of Dalton with Kurt in tow behind him. They had been given two hours by the headmaster, and Blaine was not wasting any of it. He slammed the door open to the most important room of his life. He pulled out the same chair Kurt had sat in and gestured for him to sit. Kurt complied and Blaine sat opposite him, just as he had done all those years ago.

"Just take it all in. Do you remember why you were in here? It was to do with Pavarotti." Blaine asked. He looked into Kurt's eyes, searching for the simplest sign of anything, just anything that could possibly be a sign.

"I was...I was making something?" He remembered a small metal frame, but he had no idea what it was for. He knew he'd said something right when Blaine's eyes lit up like fireworks and the most adorable grin spread across his face.

"YES! Oh!  I know what to do!" He opened youtube on his Iphone and began to softly play the song.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night,

Take these broken wings and learn to fly...

...

Kurt whistled gently and Pavarotti replied. He repeated the action but his whistle wasn't answered. "Pavarotti?" He turned to face the cage and was greeted with the bird lying on the floor, eerily still. His heart caught in his chest as he let out a slight sob at the realisation that Pavarotti had died.

The next morning he arrived to Warbler rehearsal out of uniform and in black instead. He sang in memory of the small bird who had become his friend and inspiration, but something else caught his eye. Blaine was looking at him differently; it was like, for the first time, he was really looking and seeing everything possible. It was sweet, but rather unsettling. He couldn't help but feel slightly self conscious, especially when he had started crying.

That night he had been in his dorm when there was a knock at his door. He wiped the tears from his eyes as he opened the door to reveal Blaine with a box of tissues and a sympathetic smile that could honestly melt butter. Without any words being said, Blaine entered the room and wrapped his arms around Kurt. He sat there all night, letting the older boy pour his heart out. Kurt had cried for around an hour, telling Blaine of how the bird's death had struck home hard after his Mum's death and Dad's recent near death experience with his heart attack. Blaine had whispered soft comforts and held him tighter with every sob.

The next day Blaine called an emergency Warbler meeting, requesting to sing a duet with Kurt. Everyone had voted in favour and it was official, Kurt would be joining Blaine in leading for regional's.

Later that same day, Kurt was in the commons making Pavarotti a casket when Blaine had entered the room. He had that same look on his face as he had when Kurt sang blackbird. He had sat opposite him and spilled everything. He had looked him in the eye, searching for rejection and then, upon finding nothing but love, kissed him softly, deepening the kiss as Kurt inhaled his scent beneath him.

...

Kurt remained silent as all of the lost memories from Dalton came flooding back into his mind. "I remember." He whispered softly. "Blaine! I remember!" He exclaimed, a lot louder than the first time and threw his arms around Blaine. Blaine yet out an excited squeal and picked Kurt up off of his feet and spun him around. He placed a solid kiss to Kurt's lips and left their foreheads resting gently together.

"I'm so proud of you, Kurt." He said softly and placed another chaste kiss to Kurt's lips. They stayed like that for a few minutes and then they decided to pay Burt and Carole a visit.

-

"Hello boys!" Carole exclaimed as she opened the door, smothering them in a giant hug. "Oh I've missed you both so much!"

"We've missed you too Carole." Blaine said, beaming as he did so. Over the years, Carole had grown even closer to Blaine that she had with Kurt. Kurt had a Mum, she was dead, but Carole accepted that Kurt would never replace the woman who had made him who he was today. Blaine however, needed a Mum. He had practically raised himself. His parents never cared for him, there were many incidents when Blaine's Father would hit him, and Blaine's Mother wouldn't say a word against it. In fact, the woman encouraged it. She had told him to "beat the gay out of him" too many times to count. So when Blaine had announced that he was leaving Lima to live with Kurt, they had been all too quick to disown him.

That was the breaking point for Blaine. He despised his father, he hated him for the taunts and the violence, but he had always hoped somewhere deep down, he still had a Mum to love him. When he found out he didn't, he broke. He shut out the world, he only let Kurt in, nobody else. This was mainly because he was convinced he didn't have anybody else. Kurt had called Carole in to help cheer Blaine up, and she had done one better; she gave him a Mum.

"Where's Dad?" Kurt asked, bouncing in anticipation.

"Kitchen!" They all heard Burt call, causing a squeal and a call of "DAD!" as Kurt pelted to the kitchen to fling himself onto his Dad.

Blaine and Carole laughed at his excitement, hugged again once more and then followed Kurt's path to the kitchen.

"Blaine! How you doing kiddo?" Burt smiled, releasing Kurt momentarily to hug Blaine. The minute they were done, Kurt fell back into his Dad's arms again.

"Good thanks, you" Blaine replied fondly.

"I'm great thanks. Seems like Kurt's missed me though!" Burt laughed.

"Of course I did. You're my Dad." Kurt said into his Dad's shoulder.

Blaine felt a pang in his chest at the heart felt words. He hated feeling jealous over Kurt and his Dad's relationship, but he always did. He felt Carole's arm wrap around him a moment later, and he felt instantly relaxed and much less jealous. The simple action reminded him, that he did have a family, and even if it was slightly different to others, he was loved by someone.

The thought of family reminded him to text Cooper. He needed to see if he could get into his parents house today. He sent a quick text which was quickly replied to.

Hey Coop. Need to know if the house is free in about an hour, still got a key so I can get in. Taking Kurt into my room to see if it'll help trigger any memories.

Heyui Blainerrrrssss house if totally free innit. Parentttyyyyyys away on holkidaey.

Are you drunk?

Totalyyy smashjed! Just be therew okkay? 100% saffge.

I will be, now go to bed. And bring a bowl with you in case you puke.

Ooookay.

"That was weird" Blaine thought to himself, even though, knowing Cooper since he was born, nothing surprised him anymore. He also knew that, even at his tipsiest, Cooper told the truth. So he didn't think to second guess it.

They stayed at Burt and Carole's for another two hours, and then after a lot of persuasion, cancelled their hotel reservations and agreed to stay with their parents instead. Blaine was slightly put off by the fact purely because, as he had whispered to Kurt, "We can't do it with adults around!" This caused Kurt to explode with laughter, which he quickly had to muffle to stop any suspicion occurring.

However, once they had arrived at Blaine's parents house, Blaine's mood had changed dramatically and Blaine was shaking slightly.

"You don't have to do this for me, Blaine." Kurt said softly as they approached the large house. "I'll remember in the end anyway."

"No. I need to do this. Ever since I signed that paper I've wanted closure. They're not even home. I just need to stop being a idiot, man up, and open that door." Blaine spoke with determination clear in his voice, but behind it, Kurt could hear just how venerable Blaine felt.

"And this isn't illegal right?"

"I have a key. I'm just going into my old bedroom to "get some stuff I left behind". They're on holiday anyway. I texted Cooper before we left. I'm pretty much sure, seeing as I have a key which was given to me by them, and they never asked for it back, that it's fine by law for me to go inside. Just don't wake up Cooper because he's drunk and asleep. He will upchuck all over your clothes."

"If you're sure. Just, I know this is going to be hard on you. One of the things I can remember is just how upset you were after they disowned you Blaine. I just don't want you to have to go through that again. And he better not get anything near my new jacket."

"It'll be fine." Blaine reassured him. "But...uhm...could you maybe hold my hand...?" He asked shyly, almost embarrassed at how he needed the comfort.

"Like you have to ask for that." Kurt's hand wrapped around his own instantly and he squeezed it tightly in reassurance as Blaine opened the door.

Only to find his, very drunken, Father standing directly behind it.
