Kurt snuggled closer to Blaine so that he could have a better view out the window. Blaine slung an arm around his shoulders and gazed out the window with him, though it looked like his thoughts were far away at the moment.
As they approached the airport, Kurt studied the undersides of the planes arriving and departing. They were rather large and it was hard to believe they could stay in the air, but Blaine had explained to him how they worked which made it easier for him to accept such a thing as possibility.
The plane they would be taking to New York was not as large as the ones he had been examining. It was a private plane that the owner of the airport was happy to let Count Blaine Anderson use.
"Here we are then," their werewolf chauffeur told them as she parked a few feet away from the plane.
She exited the limo and opened their doors for them. Blaine paid her to keep up appearances for the pilot who was watching them from near the steps that allowed them access to the cabin.
"Remind me to give it back to you once you've returned," the chauffeur whispered to him.
He shook his head subtly, "No. You keep it. It doesn't matter that you and I are a part of this whole thing. You still deserve recognition of your services."
She smiled at him and took her position behind the wheel again. She drove off as the group approached the private plane.
"Good evening, sirs," the pilot said, shaking each of the vampires' hands.
"Good evening," said Blaine, "are we ready to leave?"
"Of course," the pilot said, "after you."
Blaine led all of them into the plane. There was a female vampire waiting just inside. She introduced herself as Alison and explained that she would be serving them during the trip as the pilot took his place in the cockpit.
"Really?" inquired Nick. "Isn't that a human's job?"
Alison pursed her lips, "It isn't smart to trust them around such dangerous equpment."
"Smart move," said David. "What about werewolves though?"
"The boss doesn't trust them much either," Alison told him.
"Well, it will be a pleause for you to serve us, fair lady," Thadeous said.
She smiled at him before giving them safty instructions for the flight.
One hour and twenty-eight minutes later, the plane landed in New York City.
Another limo picked them up and they were soon on their way to meet Jeremiah at a hotel not far away.
The dark blonde vampire was waiting for them in the lobby. He embraced each of his fellow vampires, all of them speaking happily to each other and laughing while the humans kept their heads down.
"Come on, let's get your stuff to your rooms," Jeremiah said. They went upstairs and as soon as they were out of sight of wandering eyes, the mood of the group changed. None of them spoke as they looked for any signs of a threat.
Jeremiah brought them to a door that led out the back of the hotel and they hurried over to a discreet, black van. Jeremiah ushered them into the back before jumping in and rapping his knuckles on the wall that seperated them from the driver.
The van started up and they were soon heading down the road.
"Was anyone suspicious of you?" he asked.
Blaine replied, "No. They didn't suspect a thing. What about you, did you have any trouble?"
Jeremiah shook his head, "It's easier to sneak around here then it is in Ohio. Less people care about what you're doing and since this is one of the few places humans are allowed to mingle with us a bit more, no one would presume our contacts are up to something."
"So what's this big thing you've uncovered anyway?" Puck ventured to ask.
"Wait until we reach the base. There are certain tings that are hard to explain without seeing it for yourself."
The base was only twenty minutes away. They had pulled up front of what looked to be an abandoned warehouse, which it was.
The place was covered with dust and debris. Right in the middle of the warehouse, were planks of wood were revealed to be covering a hole in the middle of the floor, leading to a tunnel.
"Go on," said Jeremiah. "Just keep walking straight. It gets lighter the farther you go in."
The group headed into the tunnel single file. Jeremiah waited until they were inside before climbing in after them and moving the planks of wood back into their former position.
"You do realize that it might be very simple for someone to uncover this place?" Nick stated, "I mean it's just wood after all."
Jeremiah chuckled, "I understand your concern, but you underestimate us. Those aren't actually wooden planks. No, they're actually a sophisticated form of security. They were magnetized coverings that attach to the floor and can only be moved by those whose fingerprints they recognize in their memory skins."
"But won't someone catch on if they can't move them?"
"That's the only flaw. We would be alerted, however, and should have enough time to intercept any trespassers."
A latern rested on a hook at the end of the tunnel, illuminating a metal door. A key pad was embedded in the wall next to the door and Jeremiah typed in the code. The door slide open and the group headed inside.
No one spoke until they reached what Jeremiah referred to as the conference room. Four other people were gathered here, all of whom were werewolves.
Kurt recognized Craig and Luanne. The other two were called Ivan and Jason.
Everyone seated themselves around the table and it was not until all of those who were assembled had been introcuced, did Puck repeat his question about the discovery they had come across.
"There might be an assassination attempt on the king and his main dignitaries," Craig said.
Kurt liked that about werewolves. They didn't waste time beating around the bush on importent matters.
"A-are you positive?" asked David.
"No. That's why I said there might be."
Ivan continued, "Unfortunately our spies were too far away to hear everything they said, but they do know that they heard the words: 'king' and 'will pay' and we think it is safe to assume they were not talking about him being late on his taxes...seeing as how they go to him anyway."
"Did your spies recognize who they overheard?" inquired Blaine.
"No. One of them did, however, notice that one of them had what appeared to the tattoo of a snake on his neck."
"We hacked into the vampire files," Jason said, "and discovered that his name is Paul 'the serpent' Bentley."
All the vampires (with the exception of Jeremiah)gave a collective hiss.
"I take you've heard of him," said Luanne.
"That bastard killed one of my best friends!" seeted Nick.
"He's also wanted by all the covens of North America, including four in the United Kingdom, three in Japan and seven in New Mexico," added Blaine.
"If they are planning to kill the king they couldn't have gotten anyone better for the job," observed Jeff. "Do you know where he is now?"
"Not at this precise moment," answered Jeremiah, "but we're pretty sure that in three days time he and whoever hired him will be having a meeting at Club Blood of All. The best, private room they have has been rented and no one will be allowed near there."
"But if this 'serpent' guy is on the vampires' most wanted list, how can he afford to be seen in public?" asked Mercedes.
"He stays in pretty lowlife areas," Jeremiah explained, "and Blood of All is an underground club. There's pretty shady stuff that goes on there and if you have enough power and money, the employees will happily feign ignorance of who you are."
"What good will do knowing he's in a private room of this club?" Finn asked,"I mean, if no one's allowed in..."
"That's why we were hoping all of you could pose as workers," said Ivan. "We've been snooping around there too much, so we can't go near it. All of you could though."
"I'm sure they have specific employees tending to them though," said Blaine, "plus, they'll know that we aren't part of the staff."
"They'll know you, Thadeous, Nick, David and Jeff aren't staff members, certainly. However, Kurt, Puck, Finn, Michael and Mercedes--"
"That's why too risky!"
"It'll be our best shot!" argued Jeremiah. "It won't be like we're sending them in there unprotected. The four of you can pose as patrons and we'll have our best shooters positioned close enough to the building so that you can radio them in case anything goes wrong."
Blaine glowered at his former lover, mumbling under his breath.
"Look, no one is going to force them to do this if they don't want to. We leave the decision up to them."
All eyes turned to the five humans gathered there.
"Don't they keep track of the humans they have at the club?" asked Kurt.
Jeremiah shook his head, "They get new ones in all the time. If you sneak in with a new batch, they'll never know."
"Still sounds really dangerous," said Jeff, "and what makes you think they'll be sent to Bentley and his current boss?"
"I'm sure no one would notice if at least one of them snuck into the room."
"I don't think it wise to seperate them."
"No...two then."
"In that case, Kurt and I would be the less noticeable."
Thadeous and Blaine both fixed Micheal with dark stares for his suggestion.
Thadeous reached out to take his personal servent's chin in his hand. Turning his head so they were looking into each others' eyes, he said: "What makes you think that, Mike?"
"Because we're pale and skinny which makes us meeker looking and I'll bet the humans going to service them will be like that. The more submissive the better, right?"
"That's true," agreed Kurt. "Puck, Finn and Mercedes could keep watch for us. Make sure nothing goes wrong. They could also keep in contact with all of you the entire time."
The human's gray-blue eyes flickered over the Dalton Coven members.
"I still don't like it," said Blaine.
"What has to be done must be done, Blaine," Jeremiah told him gently.
Blaine sighed, "I know. Have you checked out the layout of the club?"
"Yes. The private room that they've booked is in the very back of the building and there's a stairwell close by, so Mercedes, Puck and Finn should be able to hide close by the door."
"Where do you want the rest of us?" Nick asked.
"The spas would probably be best. Not the baths, though. You don't want to get your com devices wet."
"And where would we be keeping these com devices?" asked Blaine.
"They would be implanted in your earlobe. Completly painless, though they will itch the first couple of hours they're first inserted."
Three days later, they were all lingering across the street from Club Blood of All.
Blaine kept tapping his fingers against his leather-clad thigh.
Kurt reached out and took his hand, squeezing gently to try and calm him.
"For the last time, Blaine, you need to stop worrying. Otherwise they might catch on to why we're here."
Blaine ran his free hand through his hair and blew out a gust of breath. "Right, right. That's what everyone keeps telling me."
"There are the new humans," David said, nodding to a group of figures shuffling towards the back doors. "You had all better get over there."
Kurt and Michael kissed their respectful lovers before scurrying after Puck, Finn and Mercedes.
Michael had been correct in assuming most of the humans would resemble them in body type and pallor. Puck and Finn didn't stick out as much as Kurt had originally feared, nor did Mercedes, but they were still the minority when it came to the rest of them.
They kept their heads bowed as they were shephereded into the room and the back doors closed behind them. The vampire who had shut the door turned around and scanned them.
"The females are to go to the right and the males are to go to the left," he intoned.
This was something they had anticipated, and Kurt was thankful for the com devices as he flicked his on by pressing on his earlobe.
As the males were led away through a door in the left of the wall Kurt felt his palms begin to sweat. He wiped them on his tight jeans, but to no avail.
Each of the males had their blood tested by having a vampire prick their finger and then sample the small bead. A few of the males were deemed unclean and were immediately escorted back out of the room.
When the vampire tested Kurt's blood, a look of wonder passed across his features. He swept his eyes over Kurt and the human felt sweat prickle all over his body.
The tester beckoned one of his fellows over.
"I think this one could be sent to our, ah, privileged client."
The gaurd arched his eyebrows and looked Kurt up and down. "Oh really?" He grabbed Kurt's hand and brought the tip of the punctured finger into his mouth.
It took all of Kurt's self-control not to snatch his hand away as the gaurd gave a rough suck to pull more blood to the surface.
"I think you're right," the gaurd said.
Kurt scanned the room, looking for Michael, Puck and Finn. All three of them were staring at him in horror as they were escorted out of the room and brought to wherever the vampires deemed fit.
The door shut once all of the males had been brought out of the room and then, quite suddenly, Kurt found himself alone with two vampires and a situation none of them had anticipated.
