Blaine Anderson. 32. Single father of the one and only Samantha Anderson. It has been a whirlwind. He never expected to have a child of his own really. He always thought adoption would be the best. Especially because he was gay. But he remembers the day he found out that he was going to be a father.
He was walking with his friend Jake on campus when Heather Koolah came running to them tears down her face and hyperventilating. Turns out the party a few weeks ago turned into something a little more than a heavy make out session.
He promised her that he would be there. No matter what the curcumstances were or how people were going to handle it, he would be there. He would help her raise that baby, and be the perfect dad. Even as a junior in college.
Telling his parents went better than expected.
"Blaine, why are you calling at this late hour?" His mother asked over the phone. In this one moment he wish he lived in Ohio again. "Mom, is dad there also, I have to tell you something." "Of course dear." There was a clicking noise and then his father spoke. "What is it Blaine?"
"So, I just wanted to tell you, well I need to.. Okay, do you guys remember Heather? I talked about her awhile ago?" His father grunted. "Well, I guess at a party our make out session got a little more than, uhm heated, and she is pregnant."
Blaines parents didnt shun him or anything. They asked all about it and then helped in every way possible. They started sending monthly checks and other little things to help. He was happily surprised.
The day he found out it was a girl was the day he knew there was no turning back. A baby girl. HIS baby girl. He was already hooked, and Heather was only 20 weeks along. It took all his strength to hold back tears.
Samantha was born in November. A fall baby. She was beautiful. Blaine couldnt keep his eyes off her. She was everything he had imagined. Even though brand new, she had quite the head of hair, in dark brown, and blue eyes, that he was sure would change over time. She was so tiny, and Blaine knew he would be wrapped around her finger one day.
While he was out getting supplies for Samantha, the hospital called with news he would never be able to forget.
The next few months were a blur. He was a senior at Berkeley, a single father after Heather abandon them at the hospital. No one knew where she went.
He was slipping, but one night in the middle of a feeding, he looked down at the baby in his arms, and something just clicked. He made his last year work. He got good grades, found an apartment with two bedrooms, and found a job as a realtor right after graduation. Soon he was moving up the ladder, and got control of his own branch.
Now his baby girl was going into fifth grade. She wasnt such a baby anymore. And he was definitely not looking forward to when she didnt need him anymore. But he didnt need to think of that right now, because he has all the time in the world with her.
