Over coffee and pie Kurt and Blaine talked for hours, smiling and laughing and telling each other about their lives. They'd both grown up in Ohio, taking their escape the second they could. Pie and coffee became a Tuesday morning thing for them, a standing date... Until one bitterly cold Tuesday in December.
Blaine hadn't been working much, the summer fashions weren't coming out for another few weeks. He needed to work but there were no jobs. He'd been so broke for the last two months, He'd lost his Internet and cable and land line phone, He'd been trying to save his minutes on his cell phone, so he could call his mom for Christmas and let her know he was alright. He'd had to choose between paying the rent or the utilities.
They met 'after work' that Tuesday. Blaine ordered the same thing he had for the last three months, Just a coffee. It cost him 75 cents, but he always gave Angela a dollar.
They talked, Kurt and Blaine. When Kurt said he had to go, it was dark, getting late, the wind was picking up. Blaine bit his lip and looked down at his lap.
"Don't go. Kurt." he whispered to is coffee, just his coffee. His stomach gave an angry rumble, He couldn’t stop the tears from leaving his eyes.
Blaine spilled it all. How he hadn’t been working, how he didn't have enough money to pay his bills. How he didn't even know if he'd be able to call his family for Christmas. He bit his lip as the tears came faster, "I don't even have the money for a cab home... not like there's anything waiting for me there. My landlady turned off my electricity and water yesterday. I can't even take a cold shower."
"Come stay with me." Kurt whispered.
Blaine shook his head, "I can't impose on you like that... I don't even know why I told you. I need to deal with my own problems."
Kurt shook his head, Taking Blaine's hand and smiling softly. "I can't let you sleep in a cold apartment, without electricity or water. You're starving, I can see it." He paused and sat down on Blaine's side of the booth, patting his knee gently. "You can pay me rent if it'll make you feel better."
Blaine laughed bitterly. "I can't even pay for this damn cup of coffee."
