The key for this chapter: This is Wes
November 3
Blaine sits by himself at Callbacks.
Kurt sits in the corner of the bar with Rachel
Next to go on, Blaine waits next to the stage.
Kurt has been enjoying the music so far
Finally getting on stage, Blaine begins to sing a fantastic rendition of ‘Haven’t Met You Yet.’
While he listens, Kurt can’t help but be impressed by the quality of the man’s voice
Knowing how to engage an audience, Blaine looks at the first face he sees clearly, Kurt’s, singing directly to him for about 30 seconds, just before getting off stage.
Kurt grins as he watches and listens
“Alright, everybody, that was Blaine Anderson, give him a round of applause,” encourages the guy that had played Blaine’s background music.
Kurt almost spits out his drink, and turns to Rachel
“D-did he say Blaine?”
“Yes he did. That was the guy I mentioned last night that I couldn't find,”
Kurt tries to convince himself that there had to be more Blaines who could sing in the world and looks to see if this Blaine is wearing a bowtie.
Blaine finds himself at the end of the bar, wearing his favorite red and black striped bowtie (again) as he sips his water and watches the next person sing.
Kurt groans
“Rach, I'm... not feeling good. Could we head back to the apartment?”
“Seriously?”
“Yeah, sorry. I think I need to rest”
Smiling at the next performer, Blaine mouths the words along.
“Ugh. I suppose so. But if you ever want to be a performer you're going to have learn to deal with that.”
“I think I like the fashion industry a bit too much now. But thank you, Rach.”
Kurt gets up to leave, walking past Blaine with Rachel
Blaine glances at Kurt and Rachel as they leave and then glances at his watch, thinking it’s still early. He wonders why people might be leaving, and considers the fact that he has an unstarted project due Monday.
[a while later]
What do you think of Michael Buble?
Well, that's ironic. (unsent)
One of my favorite voices.
Why do you ask?
Just curious
I was at Callbacks tonight (unsent)
Were you at Callbacks tonight? (unsent)
Did you go to Callbacks tonight?
When he sees the text from Kurt, Blaine nearly falls off of his chair.
I was there, yes.
Why?
Blaine
Kurt.
I was there
Blaine’s stomach is suddenly in his throat.
......you were?
Yeah. Ironic song choice.
Oh God.
Excuse me while I die. (unsent)
[silence]
Roommate told me you were there last night as well
Heh. Caught me.
I realize how awkward this is for you
you still don't know what I look like
Just a little awkward.
No I don't.
I shouldn't have told you that I saw you. Now it's weird
I shouldn't have sang that song. Or gone out.
If it's any consolation, you're good
At singing, that is
I almost get the feeling I've heard your voice before, but I can't put my finger on it (unsent)
Oh, well thank you
You're welcome. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to convince roommate that I'm sick and resting, so I'll be putting my phone away
Well, alright. Goodnight
Wes, he was there tonight.
Who was there?
The guy that I mis-texted the other day.
Oh, really? How do you know?
He saw me sing Just Haven’t Met You Yet. Somehow he knew it was me. He said his roommate recognized me from last night.
What did he say?
That I sing well. And that he had to go act sick because his roommate was under the impression he was.
Then what?
I haven’t talked to him since.
So what now?
I have no idea. But I’m kind of freaking out.
Calm down. Get some sleep. We’ll go for coffee in the morning.
Okay.
