Author's Notes:

Things are gonna get a little more graphic and violent just another warning.

Blaine could barely hear anything over the ringing in his ears. He stood frozen, eyes wide and staring past a distraught Kurt who was desperately trying to snap him out of his stupor as Blaine watched people run screaming into the streets. The world around him suddenly crumbled into chaos, a wall of sound hitting him so hard he almost stumbled. Grabbing Kurts hand he ran, steadying him as he almost fell when fire invaded their path. With a hard kick to the ground Blaine took to the skies, carrying them both above the destruction and to the sanctuary entrance.

Nothing could have prepared them for what they saw, the ground already littered with bodies as flames engulfed everything in their path. Out of the heat emerged Danu, stony faced as she ran to the fallens aid. They had jobs to do, despite the panic and terror attempting to shred them to pieces. With a bruising kiss and mutterings of ‘I love you and ‘please be careful Blaine took off, leaving Kurt, Danu and the others to tend to the injured and civilians inside the sealable sanctuary.

Kurt, Danu and the league of healers began to usher civilians inside, dedicated to keeping them safe as a battle raged beyond the sealed stone doors. He didnt have the time or capacity to let his mind linger on Blaine and whether or not hed see him again. Kurts desired to be by his side was overshadowed by trying to save the lives of innocent people, flitting from tending to wounds  to ensuring the Elders chamber couldnt be breached by the warlocks.

The walls shook and dust filled the air. Rubble cascaded down from the west wall to reveal a group of warlocks, a jet black dragon in tow. Screams echoed through the vast hall and Kurt along with scattered members of the dragon and fae ran to face them head on. Chains crashed through the air, laying waste to a few of the dragons as they were burnt by the iron as the warlocks advanced. The opening shook and Kurt could feel the movement in his bones as stone columns rose from the ground, crushing the warlocks into the ceiling. The dragon that had been under their control plummeted toward the ground, shifting into half form just before it hit the ground. A new wall had sealed the opening, its face adorned with blood as it trickled from the bodies trapped between it and the ceiling. "Thats new." Kurt whispered to himself, terrified as he heaved for breath. A glance to his left confirmed that he had been the one to bring up the wall, but he had little time to dwell on it. Healers rushed past him toward the woman on the floor writhing and howling in agony as the metal seared through her flesh.

Kurt had been taught well but the sight of the burnt flesh made him wretch. Danu was by his side in an instant, helping the others carry the wounded woman to a cot. The burns looked nothing like those Kurt has seen caused by fire or friction and he supposed they wouldnt as dragon kind even in half form were impervious to flame. The Burns were black and wet and bubbling as if the woman had been splattered with hot tar. As Danu and the others tended to her he bent down to examine the chains that had fallen from her body the moment the warlock who had compelled her was dead. Upon inspection the colossal links appeared to be mere forged iron. Hesitantly he reached out to touch them. He was acutely aware of Aiden, a shy young dragon that Blaine and he had come to know well over their time in the mountains, hovering apprehensively behind him.

As soon as he touched the cool metal he felt it. It was as if they were pulsing, as if they had been forged with the same power Kurt possessed, except it had been extremely convoluted. The very essence of the metal had been saturated with the twisted energy. The energy Kurt had become so used to sensing was heavy and slow, like sludge and grime crawling through pipes. It usually felt light and full of life to Kurt but it had been distorted by the warlocks, they had made it dirty and evil. It was clearly what gave the metal its power to imprison. He almost felt as if it were trying to trap him as well.

Placing both his hands on the chain he took a deep breath. If the same energy could be flushed out of the body via healing then it was possible the same technique could be used to remove the warlocks taint on the metal. He felt a tremor run through the chain and it took all his strength to keep a hold of it as he felt it heat up. He felt it, red hot beneath his fingertips but it didnt burn him, and it merely pulsed through his being trying to find an outlet. With great effort he ripped a hand away and slammed it down onto the stone beneath him. He was thrown backwards as it rushed out of him, his head smacking against the floor, blurring his vision for a few seconds. He felt Aidens arms lift him upright and heard him calling his name but all he could focus on was the chain. It looked exactly the same as it had moments earlier.

Kurt watched anxiously as Aiden approached it. He tentatively pressed his palm against a single link. No burning. Aiden didnt even flinch or pull back he just rested his hand on the cool metal. With tears gathering in his eyes he looked up at Kurt and smiled.
