One year. Blaine Anderson had been living in New York, for one full year with his brother. And other than the few nights that he had been woken up to the sounds of moans and the bed colliding with the walls to a steady rhythm coming from Cooper's room, it was perfect.
Every other night, he and his brother would go out to eat. They still hadn't gone to the same restaurant twice. Late nights, bright lights, singing...a boyfriend.
Blaine had met Sean one night when he was singing at the coffee shop around the corner from his apartment. Sean had asked if he knew any Katy Perry songs which caused Blaine to laugh as he remembered all of the Katy Perry songs he had cemented in his mind. Sean took him out to dinner that night and it went great. It was the middle of the summer and Blaine had gotten accepted to NYU, which just so happened to be where Sean had been going for a year. They were both majoring in theatre, both with big dreams of singing and dancing every night on a Broadway stage. It was safe to say that they were practically made for eachother.
"Where are you going, Blainers?" Cooper called from the kitchen as Blaine pulled his jacket on.
"I have a date with Sean." He responded without skipping a beat.
"Didn't you have one last night?"
"And the night before and the night before that." Blaine finished.
"Well don't stay out too late, you have class tomorrow."
"How could I forget?"
"I don't want this kid affecting you in a bad way."
"Coop. You're my brother remember? You're supposed to be standing there telling me to 'get some but use protection,' you are slacking on your brotherly duties."
"I'm serious Blaine. Remember what happened with..." Cooper stopped himself before saying the name that dare not be mentioned.
"Kurt. With Kurt, Coop. He may have dumped me, but he still has a name. It isn't going to cause me to go find the tallest building in New York an jump off of it. I'm happy now. Can't you just let me be happy, and if it wouldn't kill you, be happy with me?"
"I am happy for you Blaine. And Sean is a good kid. I just...nothing. Go have fun, okay."
Blaine nodded and gave his brother a quick hug before going to meet Sean.
"Hey! Where are you, Babe?" Blaine talked into his phone as he sat at table...alone, in a little Italian place.
"I'm sorry, Blaine. I can't make it tonight. I have a lot of homework. I underestimated the quantity. Maybe tomorrow, okay? I'm really sorry." Sean responded as Blaine allowed the smile to fade from his face.
"No, no, it's fine. I get it. Do your work. I'll talk to you soon."
"Bye Blaine."
"Bye Sean."
Blaine hung up the phone and slumped back in his chair.
"Can I get you something to drink?" A waitress came up to Blaine.
"I'll just take a water thank you."
The waitress nodded sympathetically as if she could see the disappointment on Blaine's face.
He watched as she walked to another customer before beginning to look at the painting hanging on the wall next to his head.
"...something to drink?" Blaine heard the waitress from halfway across the restaurant.
"I'll take a Shirley Temple. Extra cherries, please."
Kurt's favorite drink. Blaine let his mind wander back to Lima. Back to Kurt.
He glanced over at the table that the voice came from.
Brown hair, perfectly coiffed. Blue eyes, but not blue, a million different colors. Pale skin, almost like porcelain.
No. It can't be. What are the odds. Blaine Anderson, you sit your ass back down right now. Don't you dare walk over there. It can't be...
Blaine couldn't stop staring. The man that looked suspiciously looked like Kurt caught Blaine's gaze and in that moment, Blaine was sure that it was Kurt. No other man had the capability of looking like that. Of looking at him like that.
"Blaine? Blaine Anderson?" Blaine saw Kurt call out to him, obviously as shocked as he was.
