Kurt's eyes fluttered open and he had no idea where we was. He couldn't hear much at first either but slowly and surely he could make out Blaine's voice and his guitar's special hum anywhere. Blaine was singing Teenage dream quietly to Kurt. Kurt turned his head to face Blaine on the chair next to him.
Blaine's voice was as beautiful as the sunset was in his dream. Kurt tried to speak but no sound came out.
"They have you on medicine so your vocal chords will heal." Kurt panicked thinking he won't sing anymore but Blaine caught his hand before he could freak out entirely and assured him that they will heal just fine. Blaine could read him like a book. But Kurt had no idea why Blaine was crying.
"You're just so beautiful and to think I almost lost you." He said as he put his guitar down. Kurt just looked at him.
Blaine was wearing a navy blue beanie, white and black checkered wool scarf, a silver cross necklace which hidden by the scarf was barely poking out at the end, his favorite black skinny jeans and yellow Oxfords. It was Blaine's favorite Winter outfit that Kurt helped pick out at the store.
"A voice in the back of my mind told me you wanted to know why I was crying and that's why." Kurt looked down and saw the wool gauze around his forearm and abdomen, realizing everything except about Paul. Why wasn't he there with Kurt. He watched a drop of water slowly run down the side of the hospital water bottle until Blaine grabbed his hand and lightly squeezed it. He had no idea what day it was, it was already dark outside meaning it could still only
be four o'clock or past midnight.
"It's Thursday and its two in the morning." Blaine said with a tired smile.
Why was he still at the hospital? Why didn't he go home like everybody else?"
He had looked like had not slept for days. Kurt was still so tired, his eyes were getting heavy. Blaine had known Kurt was tired and had scooted over to sit next to his bed and was stroking his hair and singing Kurt's favorite song to him. Sleep over took Kurt in what felt like seconds. One of Blaine's hands in his and the other in his hair and Blaine had finally fallen asleep also.
Kurt woke up before the sun came up and found Blaine passed out next to him, head resting on the on the bar of Kurt's hospital bed. Blaine was sweating but his hands were freezing cold against Kurt's. He squeezed his hand trying to wake him up and was successful. Blaine slowly raised his head only for Kurt hear almost every bone in Blaine's body to pop. He must have been so uncomfortable sitting in that chair for God knows how long. Blaine stood up quickly stripping off jacket, beanie, scarf and shoes leaving only his pants and a black long john tee-shirt, a few shades lighter than his jeans
"I'm going to go clean up ok?" Blaine whispered to Kurt, him just nodding, that being the only thing he could do. He reached down to grab his duffle bag that Kurt hadn't noticed before and walked over to him and kissed his forehead and went to the bathroom. Kurt was staring at Blaine's sweat drenched clothes waiting for the beautiful boy to come out. He heard the water turn on and Kurt got butterflies in his stomach from hearing Blaine in the small bathroom next to him.
When Blaine came out it took Kurt's breath away. He was wearing black straight leg jeans, white sneakers and a white Henley shirt from H&M.
"Are you still tired?" Kurt shook his head, wide awake.
Kurt's head was so clouded he couldn't think straight and Blaine told Kurt he was going to tell the nurse that he was going to be up for a while. Blaine still looked like he could use a few more days of sleep and was about to pass out but he was still strong for Kurt. For his Best friend. Blaine came back in with a bottle of water and a bag of grapes and kiwis which were Blaine's favorite fruits. Blaine told Kurt that the nurse would be in soon to check on him but he could always go back to sleep if he wanted. Kurt refused because he didn't know when the next time he would be alone with his best friend again. Blaine sat next to Kurt and ate his fruit talking about the weird people in the cafeteria were and how every time a baby was born a lullaby would play on the speaker; even in the hospital everything was ok when Blaine was there. The nurse came in minutes later with of course lots of needles and test to be done. Blaine held Kurt's hand the entire time. The nurse talked to Kurt like he was a five year old and kept staring at Blaine like she was going to jump on top of him and make out with him. Near the end of her visit she pushed a button on the bed and told Blaine he could sit with Kurt if he wanted now because the alarm was disabled. She left with a smile and the room fell silent. Shortly after they talked about everything, well Blaine talked and Kurt used his facial expressions to communicate. Kurt wanted so badly for Blaine to tell him what had happened that one afternoon but couldn't. He second he could talk he would ask. It must have been 6 in the morning because Blaine was almost out of it; he was slurring his words like he was drunk and Kurt himself was getting tired again.
"Want me to sing to you?" Kurt shook his head, moved over and motioned Blaine to come lay down with him. Blaine immediately stood up and filled the gap on the oversized hospital bed next to Kurt. Kurt lifted his back so Blaine could slip his arm around Kurt from behind, Kurt's head on his chest and both of them being careful not to harm the I.Vs and Kurt's sore arms from the needles. Blaine's hand that was behind Kurt was in Kurt's hair and the other around Kurt's body, so that Blaine was on his side facing him. Kurt didn't hurt anymore. When he was in Blaine's arms everything was ok...no it was perfect. Blaine on the other hand was so glad his baby was ok physically...mentally and emotionally he wasn't sure but they would get through it together. When Kurt was safe in his arms everything was- what was that word? Oh yeah, Perfect. They fell asleep together. Not just napped, they slept the sleep they both needed for a long time.
Comments
This chapter was awesome. I love how Blaine is devoted to Kurt and how he refuses to leave his side. I am curious to see what will happen once Kurt remembers what happened to him. At least Blaine will be by Kurt's side no matter what happens next. I am looking forward to reading chapter 13.
