I dont own Kurt or Blaine either btw. Or Glee. Or any of the characters mentioned here.
At ten thirty pm, Blaine was finally able to go home. Mark, his boss, also the biggest asshole in existence, literally did not let him leave until even the bar was completely organized, and reorganized, and organized again. So when he texted Kurt, telling him hed be late, he was expecting him to be pissed off, possibly because of the last time Blaine had come home late and the incident that took place then.
Blaine shrugged it off, not wanted to replay the confusing time two months earlier, thinking back to the simple text message he had received from Kurt.
Blaine: (8:27pm)
Hey babe, going to be late tonight, Mark being a dick again. Love you, dont wait up. Xoxo.
Kurt: (8:34pm)
Ok.
There was no emoticons, no usual xoxo which was just so Kurt. Obviously Kurt was annoyed. Grace would pop open any minute, and soon they would have a son, which was probably what bugged Kurt. He couldnt be the only parent in the relationship. And Blaine be damned if he let Kurt think that. So he drove at top speed (without breaking the limit obviously) to reach his husband, which was probably a bad idea considering now he had lost his concentration just for a fraction of a second and almost nearly ran into a child.
"Fuck," Blaine swore as he parked his car before rushing out to help the boy, obviously wailing. The young boy, who looked no older than around six, was on all fours, fat tears coming out of his bright blue eyes.
"Hey, hey," Blaine started as he swooped down to the minors level. "Hey, buddy, dont cry, its okay, youre okay." He looked around, hoping his parents would be there, hoping someone who was responsible for this child would be there, but nobody was. This boy was on his own, at ten thirty in the night. Blaine wondered what kind of parents would leave their child alone at this time on the night and secretly hoped he would never be like that.
The boy in the meantime, had stopped wailing, but tears still escaped his precious blue eyes, and he took his time to observe the curly haired man in front of him. Figuring Blaine looked like a nice kind of guy, he allowed himself to trust the older man. They shared eye contact for a moment until Blaine spoke again, "whats your name buddy?"
The boy lifted his chubby hand to roughly wipe a stray tear from his cheek before saying almost inaudibly,"Austin."
Blaine smiled before saying, "well, Austin, Im afraid the road is no place for someone to by sitting on, so I suppose both of us should get up and sit on the side walk instead, before someone angry runs us over, what do you think?" Austin giggled his little head before grinning up at Blaine.
"I think we should move to the sidewalk," and with that, Blaine grabbed his sides gently and helped him to his feet. He decided to make the kid smile a little more before waving him around like superman and carefully landing him on the safe pavement of the sidewalk.
Austin giggled more as Blaine held him in the air; it felt like he was flying. He may really like this man. This man, what was his name? Maybe he should ask him? But there was no need, because immediately he was speaking again, "My name is Blaine, Austin," he said softly before continuing. "Are you here alone?"
The little boy shook his head once before saying, "My parents were in the park but then Kelly, our dog, she ran away, and my daddy went to chase her but I wanted to as well, so I ran to get her but I was running too fast and I couldnt find the- the park anymore and- and I couldnt find momma- and I thought I saw Kelly over there-" he pointed to the other side of the street, "-but then I fell and I couldnt get up and- it hurt," he said rubbing his knee.
Blaine listened intently as Austin spoke. This boy really was adorable; big blue eyes, and light brown hair, and he spoke with great passion, but his youth gave his speech the cutest combination ever. "Okay, well, I think I know which park you were in because theres one very close here. Come on, we can go find your parents, okay buddy?" Blaine asked the small boy, smiling.
"Okay," Austin said simply. Blaine held out his hand, in hope that Austin would take it, but wondered briefly if he would because he had just met this boy, and he had just met Blaine. Would he really take the hand of a stranger? He was brought back to reality when he felt a small, warm hand place itself in his. Blaine squeezed it gently before walking towards the park.
They didnt have to walk long, soon enough they heard voices from inside the park of a woman frantically calling her sons name into the darkness. Suddenly, Austin let go of Blaines hand and sprinted towards the woman yelling "Momma!" at the top of his lungs repeatedly. Blaine smiled as the woman ran towards her son and held him close, he could tell, even in the dark of the night, and the pale light of the moon that she was in tears.
The woman took notice of Blaine and gestured him hesitantly to come forward. "Is this the man that helped you, Austin?" she asked her son.
Austin whipped around and let go on his mothers leg for a moment, "Yup, thats him, Mr. Blaine; my hero." Blaine suddenly felt a gush of affection towards this little boy; he had never been called someones hero, of course, Kurt claimed Blaine to have saved him, but he had also saved Blaine in so many ways. This- this little boy, who owed him nothing in return calling him his hero literally just made Blaines day.
"Well in that case," the woman replied smiling up at Blaine. "Thank you so much for helping him, I honestly cannot believe I didnt run after him, he was going so fast... thank you so, so much. I honestly I- I-"
Blaine cut her off smiling, "it was honestly no problem, it would have been wrong to leave him there anyways." She smiled briefly at him too before her son began tugging on her coat to get her attention.
"Momma, did Daddy find Kelly?" he asked in a small voice.
His mother looked at her son and grinned widely, "yes he did baby, he just messaged me, and hes bringing her back here now." At this her son clapped and cheered. Blaine and his mother grinned at him.
"Well Id better get home now, so," Blaine said with a wave of his hand about to walk off.
"Of course, Im sure youve got family waiting, sorry to take up your time, thank you once again, Blaine, really," Austins mother said again.
"It really was no problem," he said finding himself grinning again. "Bye Austin," he said waving and smiling at the little boy.
As he began to walk away, he heard a young voice scream "WAIT!" This made him whip around almost immediately. He was met with a light pressure on his leg and a little boy clutching on to it with all his tiny might.
"Thank you, Mr Blaine, for saving me," Austin said lifting his little head to meet Blaines eyes. Blaine hugged him back for a moment before letting go and bending down to his level.
"It was really my honour, Austin," he grinned at the boy. He grinned back before running back to his mother.
As Blaine got back into his car, he realized he hadnt checked the time, let alone text Kurt to let him know where he was. He checked the time on his cars radio and even though it clearly said11:32 he couldnt bring himself to believe it. Had it really been that long? He had had no idea. God Kurt was seriously going to be pissed.
By the time he slipped into the house, he was sure it was already around 11:45. He slowly took off his shoes, certain that Kurt had long since gone to sleep. He put his key on the hook behind the door, planning to search the kitchen in hope Kurt had left something for him. "Youre home," said a sleepy voice behind him. Blaine turned around to find his husband curled up on one side of the couch in the living room. Blaine slowly sat down next to him on the couch and tenderly kissed the top of his head.
"Im sorry," he said, not knowing what else to say, really. Kurt got up suddenly, almost knocking Blaine of the couch.
"Whatever, Blaine," he said as he headed towards the stairs. This took Blaine off guard.
"What? Kurt- wait- whats wrong? I said I was going to be late, I-"
"Whats wrong? Whats wrong? Do you know what fucking time it is? Why do I have to always be waiting up for you Blaine? You cant do this when we have kids, you cant just text me telling me youre going to be late, I need to know! I need to know where you are so I dont get worried and so I dont start getting visions about you ending up in a hospital and- and-" Kurt had started to cry, which totally caught Blaine off guard. Fat, hot tears poured down his porcelain cheeks and Blaine immediately rushed forward to wipe them off.
"Kurt, Kurt baby- please, hey, hey!" He held Kurt by his arms catching his attention, keeping the eye contact. "Im here... look; Im here. And Im not going anywhere, Im sorry, I should have called you, I should have, Im sorry. I really am."
Kurts expression turned from soft to immediate anger. "Well thats not good enough!" he spat angrily, before storming up the stairs and banging their bedroom door shut leaving Blaine totally dumbstruck while he tried to process what exactly had just happened.
He supposed he fell asleep after he ate the cold remainder from what was supposed to be his and Kurts meal, feeling immediately guilty for having left his husband to eat this all alone. He woke up to the shrill ring tone of his cell phone, wiping the drool of his chin that had proceeded to ruin the couch too. "Heolr?" he said sleep thick in his voice.
"Blaine!" said a frantic voice. "Where are you?"
"Grace?" he asked recognizing the voice. She sounded panicked, and Blaine wondered what she must be craving now to call him so late. "Im at home where else would I be?" he joked.
"Blaine this is no time to be sarcastic I am going to fucking- aaah!" she sounded in literal pain and Blaine wondered what on earth could be the matter, unless – unless – unless...
Even though he knew it was most likely what he thought it was, he stupidly asked, "whats wrong? Is everything OK?"
She laughed bitterly and practically yelled so loud into the phone, he could lift it away from his ear and still hear her. "No Blaine everything is not fucking fine! Im in fucking labour, so how about you and your husband get your asses here before I kill you through this phone!"
"Okay... Okay! Okay were coming, hang in there, were coming, oh my god, oh my god..." Blaine said trying to hold in his excitement, fear and worrying all in at once.
"ITS NOT LIKE IM FUCKING GOING ANYWHERE! AAAAHHH!" she yelled loudly, the phone probably not even held by her, but some nurse assisting her. "I FUCKING HATE YOU BLAINE ANDERSON."
Blaine chuckled away from the phone so she couldnt hear and said, "Love you too, well be there soon." He hung up and all but sprinted up the stairs to his and Kurts bedroom.
He opened the door quietly, trying not to wake him, before realizing that that was the whole point anyways, but he decided he wanted to do it gently. Kurt lay right in the middle of the bed, his back towards the door and his arms wrapped firmly around Blaines pillow. Blaine crept up behind him and softly kissed the back on his exposed neck and put one hand on his back. "Kurt," he said loud enough so he could hear.
"Kurt, wake up baby," he said again.
"No go away, Im still angry at you," came Kurts muffled reply.
"Kurt," he tried again, this time placing a kiss to his cheek. "Baby, you have to wake up."
This time Kurt rounded on him. "What, Blaine? What is it? I said no, Im still pissed at you why did you have to wake me up. Goddamit I was having a good dre-" Blaine cut him off with a firm kiss on the lips.
"Grace is in labour."
Kurt took a few seconds to process this, just staring at his husbands bright, excited face. He got up and out of bed quickly. "Lets go," he said quickly stripping off his pyjama pants and putting on his jeans, and grabbing his coat before heading out the bedroom right behind Blaine.
Blaine grabbed his keys from the hook and locked the door after Kurt stepped out of the house, taking a moment to relish the fact that the next time he would most likely enter it, he would have a son in his or Kurts arms with them. He smiled as he got into the car and put his key into the ignition.
Kurt was barely keeping it together himself. He was in obvious tears, once again, but holding his head as he looked out the window. He wanted to hold Blaine so bad, to jump and join and add to his already clear excitement and double it. He wanted to hold his hand, to squeeze it, because they were going to be fathers. It was all he ever wanted with Blaine. So why couldnt he just have the courage to take his hand?
Courage. The first lesson Blaine ever taught to Kurt.
But Kurt still couldnt take his hand. He knew he had to hear Blaine out first. So he would wait.
The drive to the hospital passed in relative silence with either Blaine gripping the steering wheel too tight in Sheer anticipation and glancing at Kurt every few seconds to see the same look of excitement and anticipation. Blaine and Kurt got out of the car their hands finding each other out of habit, and Kurt saw no use in pulling away, he needed his Blaine right now. His anchor.
"Hi, were uh, looking for the room Grace Smithson is in," Blaine was saying to the receptionist with the most excited look on his face.
The receptionist eyed them both smirking slightly, who could most probably tell why the couple was there, asked anyway, "are you family?"
This time Kurt spoke breathlessely, "No, but, shes- were- shes having our baby!" He grinned widely, gripping on tighter to Blaines hand intertwined with his.
"Room 508, Maternity Ward, level three, go down the hallway to your right and go straight, it should come on your left," the nurse said smiling genuinely. "Youd better hurry," she said, her smile turning into a grin as well.
"Thank you... Thank you!" Blaine said over his shoulder running eagerly behind his equally eager husband.
They stood side by side in the elevator tapping their feet nervously, or chewing on their lips, the silence should have been awkward, but both husbands were far too into the current scene, rushing into the birth of their firstborn- and the situation was far too serious to have been considered awkward, anyways. The elevator that finally seemed to have come to their destination, casually opened its door to welcome Kurt and Blaine into the maternity ward.
A wave of fear fell and crashed over the young couple. Both for almost too familiar reasons.
In Kurts head, simple thoughts crossed his mind, will this child know that I love and support him for whoever he is and whoever he wants to be? Of course he will know, I will make sure he does. He will know that I will love him no matter what he his. We- will love him. Gosh Blaine looks so excited... Is he nervous? He must be. Maybe I should forgive him now... I need him with me...
Meanwhile in Blaines brain; will I be a good father? God is this really happening... The moment is here and I am scared shirtless. No I cant be. Kurt needs me. The baby needs me. And I need to be ready. God if I am anything like Dad towards this baby I- I cant be- I wont- I have to be a good father- I have to accept my son for whoever he is. My son. Im going to be a father. God Kurt I need you so bad right now...
It happened very quick. Kurt and Blaine reached the room- the room which behind its door held their surrogate, now one of their closest friends, who was having a baby, their baby. Blaine looked at Kurt, his eyes lit with his undying excitement and his face contempt with an expression of utmost readiness and serenity. "Ready?" he asked his husband, looking him right in the eye, prepared to catch any signs of nerves, or anything really.
Kurt could see it all, everything Blaine was feeling, he could feel his emotions, his calm practically radiating off of him. He simply nodded and smiled, as they opened the door, meeting the scene of utter commotion On the other side.
It wasnt exactly commotion, per say, it was really the sight of Grace gripping on to the sides of the hospital bed she lay in, her face screwed up in a look of concentration and pain, her hair in a messy bun and sweat dripping down her face. She noticed the couple enter the room and anger immediately danced on her face, "you! You two! I am doing this for you! God I hate you two so much right now... AHHH, WHERE IS THAT FUCKING DOCTOR?" Blaine nervously took a step back and the nurse assisting Grace patiently- but hesitantly dabbed some sweat off of her face.
Just then, the doctor walked in, a middle aged lady, with short, curly hair and a bright, contagious smile. "You must be Kurt and Blaine," she said smiling and shaking their hands. They both nodded and greeted her, before her attention was taken back to Grace.
The doctor casually lifted Graces skirt and nodded to herself. "Yep, youre ready," she said to Grace, patting her leg. "You just need to be prepped and we can get the baby out sooner than ever."
"That okay with you two?" she added towards Kurt and Blaine who were trying to stay out of the way and as quiet as possible.
"Oh, oh yes of course, of course," Kurt smiled widely.
"Alrigty then," the doctor grinned. "Well well let Grace get prepped and youll be parents sooner than Grace will have time to yell abuses at you," she winked. The couple laughed until Grace let out a high pitched groan and they stepped outside the room to wait for Grace to get prepped.
They sat outside on the plastic benches, not saying anything for a while until Blaine eventually broke the silence. "Kurt... Look Im sorry for coming home late... I know I should have called, or at least left more texts, I know youre worried about what will happen once the baby comes, and... And having to raise him on your own... but thatll never happen, okay? Ill always come home to him and you, and you wont be the stay at home parent, okay? I- I already talked to Mark and- and Im taking a couple months off... I was gonna tell you tonight... but then he got all pms-y and kept me late, but now Ill be home... With you guys," he said softly.
Kurt looked at his husband, utterly shocked that he would do something like that. "But- but Blaine... your album-"
"-Can wait. Kurt, I want nothing more than to be home and raise our son together. We have the money. A couple of months wont hurt anybody."
Wordlessly Kurt grinned and took his husband in his arms. "I love you," he whispered into his ear.
Blaine smiled into Kurts shoulder. "I love you, too."
"Blaine..." Kurts muffled voice came from his shoulder. Blaine could feel his breath on his neck and he smiled, though shivering slightly, at the feeling.
"Yes, babe?" He replied, still clutching onto his husband, not feeling the need to let go just as yet.
"Were gonna go home with our son tonight. Tonight." Kurt sighed happily, even though Blaine could tell there were some nerves behind his happiness.
"Were gonna be fathers, babe, were gonna have a family."
And they were both laughing, happily, and breathlessly, still holding onto each other, because they were finally doing it, they finally were starting a family together.
Eventually they let go of the death grip they had on each other. That too, because the nurse came outside of Graces room to tell them that she was about to have their baby "NOW," which was the painful shout that came from Grace from inside the room. Kurt bit the inside of his lip to keep himself from laughing because he was sure he was going to.
They stood next to Grace, Blaine holding one hand, and Kurt on her other side clutching the other. The nurse stepping forward every few seconds and wiping sweat off of her forehead.
"Okay Grace, now when you feel your next contraction, I want you to push, okay? With all your might," the Doctor said, sitting in front of Graces hospital bed where her feet were spread wide open. Blaine pointedly looked away, not wanting to relish the sight of his surrogate giving birth to his son just as yet. Kurt noticed him going pale at the sight before them and again tried muffling his laughter at his husbands expression.
And all of a sudden, Graces voice came screeching out, "oh-holy-jesus-fuck-" Her grip on Blaines hand grew tighter and he was quite sure it did on Kurts as well.
"Push Grace, come on," the doctor encouraged her more.
"I fucking am, I promise you," she said icily and loudly.
"Weve got his head, come on Grace, just a little more, push," the doctor said loudly, obviously having gone through this before.
"FUCK!" She screamed once more and her grip on the couples hand softened immediately. The room was then filled with Graces deep pants and the sound of a baby, crying for all his tiny might.
"Congratulations, its a boy." The Doctor smiled, holding him up, handing him to the nurse to get him cleaned. Kurt and Blaine both looked towards the tiny body crying in the nurses arms, they both exchanged looks and ran to each other, hugging tightly. Grace watched them, grinning widely.
"Blaine, would you like to cut the cord?" The nurse asked from her place near the tub.
Blaine looked briefly at Kurt, who gave him a breathless smile, nodding at him, pushing him forward as an encouragement to do so. "Yeah... sure..." Blaine said doing as the nurse instructed him to.
"Good," the nurse said when the cord was cut, now wrapping the baby in a soft blue blanket and handing him to Blaine. Blaine looked at the tiny little boy resting in his arms. The crying having tired him out. Blaine walked over to Kurt where they both looked at their baby with awe struck, love dazed eyes.
"Blaine hes-" Kurt started, whispering as if talking properly would hurt the baby. "Hes perfect."
And he really was. Fragile and small though he was, he had soft dark curls- much like Blaines- and soft fair skin. And suddenly the baby opened his eyes, slowly at first, as though registering everything around him, meeting the eyes of his fathers. His eyes were big, and the colour of his eyes- it left the young couple breathless. His eyes, though the shape was much like Blaines, the colour was a cross between what seemed to be hazel green, like his fathers, and at the same time, a misty blue, like his mothers, whom, oddly, had an eye colour much similar to Kurts. So it looked as though he had inherited not one but both his fathers eye colours.
"He has your eyes," Kurt said softly, looking up at Blaine briefly.
"Yours too," Blaine replied in the same way. The looked back at the infant in their hands. Mumbling soft words of how adorable the baby was, telling him about how much they would love him.
Blaine handed the baby to Kurt, letting him hold his son too. Kurt slowly made his way to the bed where Grace still lay upon, smiling at the love struck couple, genuinely happy for them.
"Here, hold him," Kurt said carefully handing the child to Grace.
"Kurt-" Grace began to object at first but was stopped by the taller man.
"Dont Kurt me, you gave birth to him, and he has your eyes. Look at him."
"Hes truly beautiful, Grace. We cannot thank you enough for what you have done for us. Honestly." Blaine added earnestly.
Grace smiled. She looked down at the precious soul in her arms and cooed at him, "your really lucky you know," she said to the baby. "You are going to have two of the best people I know as your dads. And I know for a fact that they are going to love you so, so much, for whoever you are. And if they dont let your boyfriend or girlfriend come over when youre a teenager, you can always call me and Ill kick their a-" she stopped herself with Kurts sharp hum against the use of a curse word in front of the baby. "-butts. Ill kick their butts," she finished, correcting yourself.
She looked up at the still beaming faces of the young couple, then back down to the infant. "Whatre you guys naming him?" she asked softly as the baby slowly drifted back to sleep.
Blaine stood behind Kurt where he sat on the chair and held his shoulders, resting his chin on top of his head. "Elijah," Blaine said, kissing the top of his husbands hair.
"Elijah Finn Anderson-Hummel," Kurt added.
"Finn?" Grace asked looking at them. "Wasnt that your-"
"Brothers name? Yeah." Kurt said smiling sadly at the baby. Blaine held him tighter.
"Well its a great name," Grace said grinning at them as she handed the baby back to Kurt.
"It is isnt it?" Kurt said to the little boy rocking him in his arms.
Elijah Finn Anderson-Hummel had to stay in the hospital for a while, as he had to be weighed, and tested, and do whatever it is doctors do to babys after theyre born. Blaine wasnt really focusing. He was just standing alone, clutching the paper cup of coffee that was at a point, steaming, but now it was just as cold as the glass that separated him from his new son. Son.
That term felt so foreign on Blaines tongue. Obviously he had never had a son before. But the fact that he was a father now was a thought that he just couldnt process. It was all he ever wanted. To be a father. And now he was, and his husband was his soul-mate. The thought of Kurt and him raising a child together brought a new kind of happiness to him. The thought filled him with such light and gave him a hopeful, and just plain happy feeling.
As he watched his baby sleep in the midst of the other babies sleeping around him, he reminisced about the days when he and Kurt had just got engaged, when he was in high school, so anxious to get out and start his life with Kurt in New York. He remembered the time when he got his NYADA acceptance letter the week everybody came back when the glee club was shutting down, and Kurt hugged him tight telling him how proud he was of him. He remembered singing Best Day of My Life with Sam in Times Square. And Kurt. Everywhere, Kurt. Living with Kurt, which at first, didnt work out so well, but eventually they got married and it was bliss. And making breakfast for Kurt, singing with Kurt, sex with Kurt.
The thought made him blush deeply and smile widely. He looked around making sure no one else saw him, even though he knew he was alone in the corridor. His mind kept replaying days of his past. Mostly days with Kurt and how he imagined them getting married having children together. It was everything he ever wanted. And the mere fact that it was all happening with Kurt, made everything feel better.
"Which ones yours?" A voice next to him asked, bringing him out of his daydreams. He turned and saw a man, in about his late twenties, a scrub on his chin, and his eyes a deep, dark grey. He was very good looking, Blaine noticed. Stop, youre fucking married, you idiot. Blaine wanted to laugh at his thoughts but stopped himself.
"Fourth one in the second row," he replied. He didnt even notice the man coming here. He didnt even hear any footsteps because he was so engrossed in his thoughts.
"Damn thats a cute kid," the guy laughed. Blaine joining in.
"Thanks," he said looking at Elijah, unable to stop the grin spreading his face. "What about you?" he asked the man.
"Second in the first row," he answered. Blaine looked for the baby, seeing it was a girl. In all honesty, she looked like a princess baby out of a Disney movie. She was adorable.
"Shes beautiful," Blaine told him, because she really was. The man smiled, knowingly. "Im Blaine," he said, introducing himself.
"Kevin." The two shook hands briefly before moving their gazes back toward their respective infants.
There was silence as the two men just stood there, leaning against the glass, looking at their creations with nothing but pure love and awe in their eyes- unable to look away from the beauty they created.
Blaines phone brought their attention to somewhere else. He took it out of his pocket, glad the glass was sound proof, as the ringtone would in doubt wake all the babies out of their blissful sleep. He looked at the caller I.D, seeing it was Kurt. A smile on his face as he answered.
"Hey babe," he said as the phone reached his ear.
"Hey," Kurt replied. He could hear the smile in his voice. "I was calling to let you know, Im on my way back to the hospital, and I got you proper coffee, not that crap they sell over there." The disapproval for the hospital coffee high in Kurts voice. He had gone home to get a shower and change his clothes as the sun came up the following day. Knowing Kurt, and his need to always look good, Blaine let him go.
"Oh, you are too generous," Blaine laughed slightly at his adorable husband.
"Did you ask Grace if she needs anything?" Kurt asked.
"Yeah, but shes fast asleep right now, though Id get her some coffee, lord knows how much shes missed caffeine."
Kurt laughed knowingly. "Yeah, I got her a latte, extra sugar, god knows how she drinks with so much damn sugar. Anyways, hows the baby? Is he okay? Is he crying? I got some of the clothes we got him and Dad and Carole are on the way here to see him and-"
Blaine cut his husband off knowing he wouldnt stop once he started. "Hey, babe, hes fine, okay? Hes sleeping. Im looking at him right now. When do your dad and Carole get here? Ill go pick them up from the airport."
"Their flight is at 11:30." Blaine checked his watch, it was only 8:15. He had a good 3 hours.
"Okay. Will do. Now will you pleaseeee get here already? I miss you."
"I miss you too, Ill be right there, okay?"
"Okay. Drive safe. Love you."
"Love you too, B." Blaine hung up and checked his phone noticing several messages from his parents and Cooper congratulating him on the birth of his son.
"Your partner?" Kevin suddenly asked, nodding towards his phone.
"Hmm? Oh yeah..." he said wondering how he knew he was gay.
Kevin laughed slightly noticing Blaines confusion. "If it were your wife, shed be lying in bed right now. But since the person you were talking to obviously isnt here right now, its your partner. Let me guess hes on a coffee run?" He asked, as though he knew exactly what Kurt was doing. Blaine nodded smiling slightly at his husbands profound need for proper coffee. "Yup. My boyfriend too. Cant stand the coffee here."
Blaine laughed knowingly. "Sounds just like Kurt."
Kevins phone buzzed as he received a text message. "And theres my surrogate wondering where her apple juice is," he said staring at his phone, sharing a look of amusement. "Thats my cue. It was nice meeting you though, Blaine." He said as he began walking off.
"Yeah, you too, Kevin."
After a couple of minutes he felt hands snake around his waist and kiss the back of his neck slightly. If he wasnt so familiar with those lips and those porcelain arms, he would have probably broken Kurts nose right now. "Heres your coffee," he whispered into Blaines ear, making it tickle slightly.
Blaine smiled grabbing the coffee from where Kurt held it in his hand that was still around Blaine. "Mmm, thank you." he said gingerly taking a sip. He sighed happily. The coffee, and Kurt, and the sight of his sleepy new born made him so glad to be alive at this moment.
"I love you, you know that?" Blaine said to Kurt after a while. The two of them were just standing there, watching their perfect son, fast asleep.
"I do," Kurt said smiling, kissing Blaine under his ear lobe. "And I love you, too."
"I cant wait to take him home," Blaine whispered softly.
Kurt knew he was talking about Elijah, and he smiled in the direction of their new born. "I know. Me too," he whispered back. "This is all Ive ever wanted, you know. And the fact that I get to have this, and with you, makes everything so much better."
Blaine tightened his grip around Kurts waist. "I was thinking just the same thing.
At 11:30, Blaine stood at the airport, waiting for the arrival of his father and step-mother in law. He waited for about fifteen minutes, and watched the plane land and the passengers emerge from the pipe. People began to flood in, there were tourists littering the airport, since it was the beginning of summer, and New York was still one of the most ideal tourist destinations. Finally at 12:05, he saw his father in law making an appearance, beaming happily as he noticed him.
Burt and Carole walked towards Blaine, their trolley stacked with their luggage being pushed by Burt. As they approached him, Burt engulfed Blaine into a huge hug. Blaine secretly loved hugs from Burt, he truly was a great hugger. As Burt released him, he was soon in the arms of Carole, whose motherly hugs were also quite amazing. "God its so great to see you guys, weve missed you," Blaine said to them, taking over the trolley, waving of Burt when he tried to protest.
"Ah well, not as much as weve missed you," said Burt. Blaine smiled at them, knowing their house must have been very quiet since Kurt had moved to New York, and Finn...
"So tell us all about him, how is he? Is he cute? Of course hes cute, hes your baby," Carole said, making Blaine blush slightly.
"Hes perfect, hes 7.5 pounds and 19 inches," Blaine said proudly. "And god, his eyes, guys, I cant even describe them, theyre beautiful. And he wont let go of Kurt. Or so Kurt claims, although Im quite sure its the other way around." He laughed as Burt and Carole joined.
"Typical. Well I did tell Kurt, that all I wanted from him was for him to be happy. And grand-babies. So I guess I get both of that now," Burt sighed happily clapping Blaine on the back.
They exchanged small talk and some jokes as usual, as they walked to the car. Blaine expertly piled the suitcases in the trunk, as though the luggage weighed nothing. "Been workin out have ya?" Burt asked noticing the ease it took Blaine.
Blaine chuckled, "Yeah a little bit."
They drove home with Burt not being able to tune down his excitement and Carole gushing over how they got the baby the cutest of outfits and onesies. Blaine smiled the whole time he drove, loving how this was all for his son. His son. His and Kurts son. God that would never grow old to him.
"Why dont you guys freshen up, and Im gonna drive back to the hospital and pick up Kurt and Grace? Sam and Mercedes should be here soon. Rachel and Santana and Britney are most possibly already here and lying around somewhere in the house, or in Santanas case, going through our drawers," Blaine said to Burt and Carole as they entered the house and Blaine took their luggage to their guest room. They really had too many rooms.
"Of course, ooooooohhh I cant wait!" Carole said excitedly. Blaine grinned.
"Me too," he told her, bumping their shoulders.
"Okay now get outta here, go get my grandson from the hospital would you?" Burt exclaimed literally pulling Blaine out the door. Blaine knew the older man was just excited to see his first grandchild.
"Im going, Im going," he grinned at him before closing the door behind him and heading towards the car.
Kurt and Blaine returned home the second time that day each, this time accompanied by not only each other, but also Grace, and of course, Elijah Anderson-Hummel. "Welcome home Elijah," Kurt said to the baby as Blaine opened the front door, totally unable to get the grin off his face.
They walked in to a big gathering of people, all of whom were their friends and family. Blaine noticed someone brought a cake, and there were cookies and wine too. Grace headed straight for the wine, truly having missed it after being deprived from it for so long. Blaine chuckled at her antics. The first person who headed straight for the baby was of course, Burt.
"Let me see him, let me see him!" he said happily. Kurt carefully handed his son over to his father who gushed over him, holding onto his tiny hand and grinning widely, it almost looked as though he may cry. Little Elijah himself looked up at his grandfather with big curious eyes. "God, Blaine, you were right, his eyes are beautiful," Carole added standing next to her husband and cooing over the baby.
"Congratulations!" Rachel exclaimed in her normal Rachel like tone, as she came over to hug Kurt and Blaine. "I cant believe you guys are dads. its so adorable!" she grinned happily clapping her hands excitedly like she always did.
"Whats his name?" Carole asked as she held the infant.
Blaine and Kurt exchanged a look before Kurt spoke, "Elijah Finn Anderson-Hummel."
Blaine noticed both Carole and Rachel momentarily pause, they both looked from the baby to the couple, and also to each other before exchanging a single look, that nobody could quite place, and smiled back at Blaine and Kurt without saying a word.
The two walked around greeting everybody and thanking them for their congrats. Blaine pulled Kurt to the side whispering, "Should we tell them now, or later? When everyone leaves?"
Kurt immediately knew what he was talking about. "Later, obviously. My dad wont last very long, hell be asleep in- I give it an hour- well tell them then."
Blaine nodded his head, "Okay."
"Well you two, I think I should congratulate you two as well on successfully creating a life that will probably end up having Lady Hummels fashion sense and hobits height. But no matter what he wears and how tall he is, hell always have his Aunty Tana teaching him a life lesson or two on how to verbally bitch slap someone just in case he needs it you know. Of course Ill also tell him about the days when you two would secretly make out in the janitors closet during lunch breaks in high school and also at NYADA thinking nobody noticed, but they noticed, and wore scarves to hide your hickeys," Santana stated proudly to Kurt and Blaine as they exchanged a bored look.
"Come on Santana, at least tell the kid something true. Like the time Blaine got a sofa with bed bugs into the apartment," Rachel laughed coming to join them.
"Please Berry, that is not even the weirdest thing Hobit has done, but we can tell him storys about that Adam guy, remember him?"
"Oh my gosh, yeah! God Kurt, he was cute," Rachel said bumping her shoulder with Kurts. Blaine uncomfortably cleared his throat. Santana and Rachel laughed at his displeasure.
"Or you could tell him about the countless amount of times when Sam would cock block the two of them when they came even the closest bit to any kind of action when they first moved in," Rachel continued.
"What? That never happened. Did it?" Sam asked looking towards Kurt and Blaine.
The two just exchanged the most knowing of faces and looked back at Sam.
"Guys? Oh..." Sam said, slowly understanding. The house rang with laughter, though softly, as to not disturb the baby.
Soon Elijah was back into his fathers arms, as his grand parents were growing tired and Santana and Britney were leaving along with Artie. Sam and Mercedes were about to leave too, when Blaine stopped them. "Sam, wait, we- Kurt and I- wanna talk to you," Blaine told him.
"Yeah, you too, Rachel." Kurt added.
"Whats wrong? Is everything okay?" Rachel began in her usual panicky mode.
"Everythings fine, Rach, we just- we- Kurt?"
Kurt shook his head at Blaine who looked too excited holding Elijah to finish his sentence. "We wanted you two to be Elijahs godparents."
Rachel jumped clapping her hands excitedly the same way she always did when she was genuinely happy. "Oh my god!" she exclaimed grinning and laughing.
"Quite down would you? The babys asleep," Kurt told her, though he was smiling.
"Sam?" Blaine said towards his best friend, questioning his silence.
"God parents like from that cartoon show? Man I dont have powers like that though. I didnt know you were a fairy though, Rachel," Sam said as casually.
"Sam.. seriously.." Kurt said in a monotone voice wondering if he was actually legitimately serious right now.
"Im kidding guys, geez, take a joke," he said in an impression of some character neither of them quite knew. "Of course, Id love to, Im honored, honestly," he grinned his school boy grin.
They both leaned in to hug the couple as well as place a quick kiss on Elijahs sleeping forehead.
After what felt like an eternity, everyone left and Blaine had just dropped Grace home. He returned to find his husband and his son in the nursery, with Kurt singing to him facing the wall so he couldnt see Blaine watching them. He smiled looking at his two favorite people in the world. This was a sight he could get used to.
"Just close your eyes, the sun is going down,
Youll be alright,
No one can hurt you now," Kurt sang softly.
Blaine joined in the second verse, walking towards the two of them.
"Come morning light,
You and Ill be safe, and, sound,
Oooh, oooh, woah, woah, oooh, oooh."
Kurt grinned at his husband as Blaine reached up and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Then he reached down and gave his son a kiss on his forehead, gently, so he wouldnt wake up. Kurt did the same and carefully placed Elijah into his crib and allowed him to sleep. He turned on the baby monitor as well, grabbing the other one. Blaine could tell he was excited to use it for the first time.
They walked to their bedroom hand in hand, neither being able to keep the smiles off their faces. They were just so happy, finally starting a family with each other. It was what both of them had always wanted, and they knew that. As they settled in bed, wrapped into each others arms, they looked into each other eyes.
"I love you so much, I cant wait to raise him with you," Kurt said quietly to his husband.
"I know, I cant either. I love you too. So much," Blaine told him.
Kurt reached up and kissed Blaine, feeling fireworks, the same thing he always felt when he kissed Blaine, a feeling that never quite went, which he loved. Then he settled back into the crook of Blaines neck and fell into a peaceful sleep.
