Blaine almost jumped out of his seat at the unexpected shouting in his ear. He turned around to see that boy he met in The Lima Bean a few weeks ago standing above him. Kurt.
“Hi there.”
“Aww don’t act so shy, I thought we were past that.” When Blaine didn’t respond Kurt spoke again. “Where’s the husband?”
He assumed Kurt meant Sebastian. “He’s home. Sick.”
“Then I’m sure you’ll be wanting company,” Kurt sat down without asking.
“Sure,” Blaine smiled at him, it wouldn’t hurt to have someone to talk to.
“So, names. We know names. We could go through favorites. Favorite color?”
“Hmmmm?” Blaine had no idea what Kurt was talking about.
“You’ve never randomly tried to get to know a stranger in a Coffee shop have you?”
“Can’t say I have. Is it a hobby of yours?”
“Is it a hobby of yours to call strangers “Baby”?”
“Touch,” They both laughed. Blaine didn’t know what it was about him, but he really liked talking to Kurt. “It’s Blue. My favorite color, that is.”
“I could’ve guessed,” Kurt said, nodding at Blaine’s navy blazer and scarf.
“No fair, this is my uniform.”
“Oh good, I was beginning to think you and your boyfriend just like to dress in matching outfits.”
“Very funny.”
“Actually I am very serious. That is a HUGE fashion faux pas.” Kurt winked. They both sipped their coffee and there was a long silence.
“Well, I appreciate you keeping me company but-”
“Leaving so soon?”
“I have homework and stuff, you know.”
“You live by a very strict schedule, don’t you Blaine?”
“No I do not, Kurt. Thank you very much.”
“Is that why you always sit at the same table?”
“Well how would you know that, have you been stalking me?”
“You don’t make it very difficult, what with your strict schedule. But alas, no. You told me this is your usual table. I thought ‘usual tables’ only existed in sitcoms with groups of friends like... How I Met Your Mother or something.”
“Usual tables totally exist! There is just something comforting in knowing that you have a something that’s...”
“Predictable?”
“Consistent.”
Kurt rolled his eyes. “What are you, 70? What teenager craves consistency? You should be running around without pants on singing Ke$ha songs at the top of your lungs.”
“Ke$ha? That’s hardly singing.” Kurt laughed out loud and Blaine couldn’t help but smile at how adorable his laugh was. “You’d like it if I ran around pant-less?”
“Whoa there, Casanova. Not on the first date.”
“Whoa there, not a date. Boyfriend, remember.”
“Oh yeah, how is the Sweetheart?” Kurt’s voice emphasized the irony of calling Sebastian sweet.
“Sick, like I said. Speaking of him, I really should go.” Blaine finished his coffee and stood, gathering his messenger bag off the floor. Kurt watched him shamelessly.
“Well fine, maybe another random guy will come up and call me Baby, and we’ll fall in love and be completely spontaneous together.”
“Good luck with that, Kurt.” The boys smiled at each other and Blaine walked off. He couldn’t even comprehend what had just taken place, but he also could not stop smiling. That was until he looked at his phone and saw that he had 5 texts from Sebastian and 3 missed calls. This was why he had to stick to his strict schedule.
