“Drive!”
Blaine quickly turned out of the McKinley parking lot and back towards town where The Lima Bean was.
“I didn’t know you were a school skipper,” Kurt said, after craning his head around to make sure no one had followed him out.
“Not usually, but I felt like I needed a day off.”
“Tell me about it,’ Kurt sighed.
“Okay well when I got home Sebastian was just... there.. and he started talking about how he got-” Blaine stopped talking when he noticed Kurt was giggling. “What?”
“You took ‘tell me about it’ in the most literal sense,”
“Oh,” Blaine blushed and went silent, shifting his focus to the road.
“Aww, no. it was cute,” Kurt assured him.
“So, you’re not mad?”
“Do I really have a right to be?”
“I don’t know. Yeah? Because we had this great night together and the next thing you know my ex is at my house in the morning. And it just looked bad,”
“You don’t need to apologize. I should, though. I’m sorry I doubted you and immediately thought the worst. You have never done anything to me for me to believe that you’re a bad guy,” Kurt said.
Those words made Blaine feel a thousand times better. Kurt was way more forgiving than Sebastian had ever been. It reassured him that there were other guys in the world who could make him feel as happy as he once did.
Kurt leaned over and kissed Blaine softly on the cheek and then said, “Do you trust me?”
Blaine glanced over at him to see the wide grin on Kurt’s face. “Should I?” He said.
Kurt nodded.
“You’re scaring me,”
“Let me drive!” Kurt coaxed.
“Okay, now I’m even more scared,” Blaine joked.
“Oh, hush. Do you really want to go get coffee on the day you skip school? You’re so boring Blaine! Let me spice things up!”
“I am NOT boring, I am practical!”
Kurt did a mock cough, “Boring!”
“Fine, what’s your brilliant idea?”
Kurt shook his head, “Nope. Not telling. No. Get your ass out of the drivers seat, and let me drive!”
Blaine pulled over and got out of the car mumbling, “This is a terrible idea.”
Kurt put his hands on Blaine’s shoulders, “Breathe, okay. It’ll be fun!”
They switched spots and Blaine put his seatbelt on quickly. Kurt looked over at him and laughed. “Oh my god, you’re actually scared.”
“This is... it’s just this is my parents car and you might just be kidnapping me as revenge for this morning and I probably deserve it...”
“Okay, I’m going to stop you there. 1) I told you I’m NOT mad at you, 2) It would be really stupid of me to kidnap you in your parents car, 3) You’re cute when you’re scared, and 4) shut up and enjoy the ride!”
Kurt started the car and turned the radio on but all that came out was static. After fiddling around with the buttons for a few minutes with no success, he turned to Blaine.
“How do I get this to work?”
Blaine shrugged and smiled.
“Why aren’t you talking to me?”
Blaine looked out the window.
“I will tickle you.”
Blaine snapped his head back towards Kurt, “Nonono pay attention to the road!”
“HA! You talked.”
“You told me to shut up though.”
“Well you have permission to speak, or you can just get the radio to work. I can’t function in a car without singing,”
“That’s not safe-” Blaine started but could tell that Kurt had a witty remark waiting for him so he stopped himself. “It’s broken.”
“Guess I’ll just have to provide my own music- drop a beat Blaine!”
“A beat? Are you going to rap?”
Kurt smiled but kept his eyes on the road, “You don’t know. I could be a great rapper,”
“Well now I really hope you can because I think a gay, white rapper would make a LOT of money-”
“TO DAYS OF INSPIRATION,”
“Kurt...”
“PLAYING HOOKY,”
“Kurt!”
“MAKING SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING!”
“KURT, oh my god if you are going to sing La Vie Boheme please at least SING it instead of screeching,”
Kurt continued scream-singing the lyrics as he rolled the windows down, “The need to EXPRESS, to COMMUNICATE-”
Blaine cut in, “To going against the grain, going insane, going maaaaaaaad!”
“To loving tension,”
“No pension,”
“To more than one dimension,”
“To starving for attention, hating convention, hating pretension,”
“Not to mention of course hating dear old mom and dad!”
They continued the song, each taking on several characters, and Blaine completely forgot about his worries. “Kurt, that just made my life,” he said catching his breath.
“I try,”
“Will you tell me where we’re going now?”
Kurt patted Blaine on the thigh, “Nope”
Blaine took Kurt’s hand in his and rubbed his thumb over the soft skin. He looked up and met eyes with Kurt. That was when he realized that the car had stopped.
“Here!” Kurt yelled, squeezing Blaine’s hand and then jumping out of the car. Before Blaine could process what was happening Kurt was opening the passenger door and pulling him out.
“Whoa whoa hold on,” Blaine said as he unbuckled his seat belt. Kurt took his hand and led him a few feet from the car.
“What do you think?”
Blaine looked around him. In front of him was a small man-made lake surrounded by a fake sandy beach that was ingrown with weeds and grass. Sattered around were a few planks of wood that looked like it had once been a pier.
“What is it?”
Kurt skipped forward into the sandy grassy area and Blaine followed him. “It’s a lake, silly. I used to come here all the time with my mom. I don’t know what happened to it but this used to be a little diving board we made.” He picked up a few of the planks and moved them towards the water.
“Wow,” Blaine didn’t know why but at the mention of Kurt’s Mom he felt strange. He had never heard of, or seen her, before, and he couldn’t shake the feelings that he’d already figured out why.
“Are you coming?”
“What?”
“I didn’t bring us all the way here to stare at a lake,”
Blaine stared at Kurt, “Wait...”
Kurt ignored him and continued assembling the planks but Blaine caught a glimpse of his smile.
“What! You’re crazy! I am wearing my favorite jeans and... and.. what!? I am going back to the car you are a insane.”
Kurt ran after Blaine and tackled him before he got more than 3 steps towards the car. “No! Blaine you are going to do this and you are going to love it!”
“HELP!” Blaine yelled from under Kurt. He struggled for a few more seconds until he finally surrendered, “Okay, okay Kurt, damn you are strong! Okay I’ll do it!”
Kurt released his stronghold on Blaine but still had him pinned. “Yes! Don’t worry it’s fun I promise. So...STRIP!”
“This is the opposite of a relaxing day...” Blaine grunted from under Kurt, “Wait, Strip?”
“Uh, yeah. You don’t want to get those wet, do you?” Kurt raised an eyebrow at Blaine’s jeans.
"Kurt, was this a really elaborate plan to get my pants off?”
Kurt shrugged and started unbuttoning his pants. He realized Blaine was still standing, unmoved, staring at him. “I can turn around if you want?”
“Oh, okay so we’re actually doing this... Yeah, turn around. I will too.”
Blaine turned around and slowly slipped out of his pants. He heard a muffled laugh behind him and turned around to see Kurt snickering. Kurt’s eyes were fixed on Blaine’s Red and black polka dotted boxers.
“Shut up!” Blaine shouted, reaching down and throwing a handful of sand at Kurt. Kurt ducked out of the way.
“Adorable,” he said, unbuttoning his shirt. “You might wanna take yours off too.”
“You’ve got me in the middle of nowhere, stripping, forcing me to walk the plank,” Blaine took his shirt off. He looked at Kurt’s body and tried not to stare at his toned, milky white stomach, and exposed muscular arms.
“Middle of nowhere? Blaine, there is a Wal Mart like a mile away from here. And I am an excellent swimmer, so there’s no need to worry your cute polka dotted tush.” Blaine blushed and crossed his arms, trying to hide his chest which was hairier than the average teenage boys, but Kurt’s smile instantly made him more comfortable.
“Correct me if I’m wrong,” Blaine said, looking at the rickety planks, “But aren’t you not supposed to dive into shallow water?”
“We’re not diving, we’re jumping. And We’re jumping from there.” Kurt pointed at a rock ledge about 20 feet from them. “The planks were fun when I was little, but I think we're ready for something bigger, don't you agree?"
Blaine looked up at the ledge. He wasn’t nervous, he’d jumped from higher places before. He reached out and Kurt took his hand and led the way to the top of the rock.
“Remind me again why I’m doing this?”
Kurt leaned in and kissed Blaine, pulling him close and breathing in deep. When they parted Blaine opened his eyes and Kurt grinned, placing one more quick peck on Blaine’s lips before taking his hand and turning them out towards the lake.
“One...." They squeezed each others hands tighter.
"Two...." Blaine took a deep breath.
"Three!”
Kurt and Blaine jumped off of the ledge hand in hand, falling towards the dark lake below them. They plunged into the cold water, the last place Blaine had expected to end up that day- but it seemed like everything was an adventure with Kurt, and he loved it.
