Kurt woke up the next morning with a smile playing on his lips. He stayed in bed for a moment, scenes from yesterday replaying in his mind. Blaine saying he wanted to be Kurt's friend. Their mindless chatter about everything and nothing for nearly an hour. The grin Blaine gave him when Kurt said "See you tomorrow".
That was a promise he had to fulfill today. He rushed through his morning routine, eager to get to school. On his way, he stopped at the Lima Bean, smiling at the table where he and Blaine had sat yesterday. When he got to school, he walked in, spotting Mercedes immediately. He walked over to her, still looking for Blaine.
"Good morning," he greeted Mercedes.
"Hey! I've been looking for you," she said, spinning around to face him.
"Here I am. What's up?" He asked.
"You know that guy Anthony?" She asked him tentatively.
"Big guy? Football player? Pinky as thick as my body? Yeah I know him. Why?" Kurt replied.
"He asked me out!"
"What?!"
Mercedes nodded, grinning maniacally. The bell rang and the two began to walk to class. After Mercedes promised I give gun more details later, they parted.
Kurt was a little disappointed that he hasn't seen Blaine this morning but he knew he would see him next period. French went by quickly, and when the bell rang, Kurt isn't run out of the room like he had the past couple of days. He walked slowly, meeting up with Tina before they walked into class together. When they got there, Blaine was already sitting down. With the jocks. Kurt was confused, and hurt. Blaine had said he liked Kurt better than the jocks so why was he still sitting with them an not Kurt?
Kurt was jolted out of his thoughts when Ms. Moss began speaking.
"Today will be spent working with your partners," she said. "Split up and get started!"
Great, now Kurt had to spend the rest of the period with Karofsky. He sighed as he picked up his bag and trudged vet to where Karofsky was sitting. Kurt had just sat down when the boy started talking.
"Listen Hummel, I need a good grade on this project to pass this semester," he said, quickly and quietly. "I know you're smart so I'll work with you as long as you keep your hands off my junk."
Kurt was slightly surprised by his words but recovered quickly.
"Ok," he agreed, happy that he would only face I deal with Karofsky's comments, not his fists.
Kurt split the start up questions they had to answer, giving Karofsky the easier ones. They spent the rest of the class in silence, looking up from their work only when Ms. Moss passed. They packed up shortly before the bell rang.
"So let's just finish these questions tonightand we'll see where we are tomorrow," Kurt suggested. Karofsky grunted, which Kurt took as a "yes". As he walked back to Tina, Kurt tried to catch Blaine's eye, but Blaine refused to look at him. Kurt was frustrated bug he wouldn't force Blaine to talk to him if he didn't want to. The bell rang and everybody left. Kurt tried not to think about Blaine and paid diligent attention in his classes. By lunchtime, Kurt was nervous. He didn't want to get his hopes up, but maybe Blaine would sit with him at lunch.
He grabbed a salad and walked to his usual table, making sure there was an empty chair beside him. His friends sat down around him but he paid no attention to them. Finally Blaine walked in. He got his food and walked straight toward the jock table, where he sat down. Kurt, who had watched him the entire time, pushed his disappointment down and forced his eyes on his salad.
"Hey babe," Mercedes said, dropping into the empty chair next to Kurt.
"Hey Cedes," Kurt replied, plastering a smile on his face. "So. Tell me everything."
Mercedes launched into the story of how Anthony had asked her out. She had wanted to gush to somebody so Kurt only had to smile and nod. He noted a few details- it had happened over text message- before letting his mind wander. Next period was Chemistry, with Blaine. He thought about skipping but he had Glee rehearsal right after and he didn't want to miss that. The bell rang and Kurt stood up, knowing he would soon have to face Blaine. He dumped his trash and left through the main double doors. He didn't notice the two jocks holding large cups from the gas station until they tossed the cups' contents at him. When he did see them, he could do nothing to save himself from the red slushies being thrown in his face.
