I'm learning so many new words with this challenge, damn.
Kurt thinks back about Blaine’s comments about having a community at school. As a result, the next day he approaches Santana before glee.
No one outside of glee knows that Brittany and Santana are dating, since they’re apparently still figuring it out. The glee club found out about it because they were incredibly unsubtle by making out in the choir room. They thought it was empty and they didn’t see Rachel’s text, asking for an impromptu glee club meeting.
“Sup,” Santana doesn’t really look up from her phone.
“Can I ask you something? Personal? Randomly?”
“… sure?”
“Have you ever felt lonely, being gay?”
Santana now looks up from her phone. She is surprised and Kurt doesn’t blame her. After all, they haven’t really talked about it. Santana looks around to see if anyone’s heard them before dragging Kurt inside the choir room.
“Don’t say that shit in the hallways.”
“Shit, sorry, I didn’t think.” And Kurt would know how unsafe the hallways could be.
Santana closes the door to create more privacy. She still drops her voice when she says: “Yes. I can’t wait to leave this place and go to college. Hopefully that’ll be better in a big city.”
“I guess it must be harder for you since no one outside of glee knows.”
Santana nods solemnly. “And Blaine.”
Kurt’s eyes widen. Blaine?
“Blaine? He knows.”
“Yeah.”
“Why would you tell him that?” Kurt asks, trying to hide his annoyance, “Him from all people?”
“Because he’s gay so I’m pretty certain he’s not a homophobe?” Santana says as if it’s obvious, “Besides, it’s inspiring in a way. If someone like him can come out and still be popular, then anything’s possible.”
Kurt leaves the room without another word.
When Kurt talks the hallways, he’s still fuming. How the hell did Blaine get Santana to trust him? Santana, of all people? He passes Blaine, who’s on his phone, and he resists the urge to just yell at him. Instead he holds his head high and walks away.
His phone beeps.
Blaine is messaging him.
Kurt looks back to see Blaine smiling at his phone. Blaine smiles at the thought of speaking to Eddie. It makes Kurt feel weird. How can Blaine be so terrible to Kurt and so kind to Eddie? Kurt has to go through with this plan, but it’s quixotic. Can this last when there’s a gap between Kurt’s Blaine and Eddie’s Blaine?
He opens the message. To his surprise, it’s a photo.
Blaine Anderson: [image of an old woman
standing in a simple kitchen. She smiles at
the camera and she’s holding cacao beans.]
Blaine Anderson: Sorry, my grandma just
sent me this and I had to share it.
Blaine Anderson: Oh, yeah, my gran
makes her own chocolate!
Kurt knows about that. Kurt and Rachel accused him of lying to Mercedes. Blaine was telling the truth all along.
He tries to tell himself that he shouldn’t feel bad for the false accusations. After all, how could Kurt have known? Still, seeing the face of Blaine’s proud grandma feels like a gut punch.
Eddie Andrews: 😍😍😍
He has nothing more to say without feeling guilty. He puts his phone away.
When Kurt looks back to Blaine, he can see that Blaine’s screen lights up and so do his eyes. Then some cheerleaders move towards him and he quickly puts his phone in his bag. His entire face changes. He’s still smiling when one of the cheerleaders start talking to him, but it’s different. His smile doesn’t reach his eyes.
But then a cheerleader sees him looking and she dramatically rolls his eyes. Kurt turns around. He’s not in the mood for this.
