Blaine doesn’t go to school for an entire week and in a way it’s a relief. Kurt doesn’t know if he can ever look at him again without the guilt washing over him. Blaine’s also been silent on Facebook, which is also a relief. Blaine’s let Kurt (or actually Eddie) know that he’s doing fine, all things considered, but that he’s going to take a week off.

Kurt can’t look at his Eddie profile. He can’t even think about it. He’s all alone in this and there’s no one he can talk to. Talking to Mercedes definitely backfired, but she was also right.

It’s still messing with his head that he was wrong about Blaine and about this plan. Kurt’s beliefs aren’t very malleable. He’s steadfast on everything, and he hates being wrong. He saw it as pride, but maybe part of it was vanity.

During that week, Kurt decides to focus on glee for once. He’s just been showing up to meetings, but he hasn’t fought for a solo in weeks. That’s how busy he was with his terrible catfishing plan. At least Rachel’s off his back now, since she’s also incredibly busy with Regionals.

Rachel hasn’t taken the hint. According to her, Regionals needs her focus and once they win that, they can go back to exposing Blaine. Kurt’s given up on trying to tell her he’s done, since she won’t listen.

Kurt ignores Rachel. Instead he tries to be a great friend to others again. He listens to Tina, who happily tells him that she worked things out with Mike. Artie asks him for an opinion on a video and Kurt takes his time to help him. Finn wants to dance some more and Kurt attempts to give him lessons. He goes shopping with Brittany for a date night with Santana. It’s nice. It takes his mind off the stress of having to tell Blaine the truth.

When Blaine returns after a week, he barely even notices it.

He definitely notices it when Blaine’s suddenly standing in front of him.

Kurt doesn’t even have to fake his confusion. Yes, he knows Blaine better now, but Blaine still doesn’t know he’s Eddie. The sight of Blaine does make Kurt’s heart jump. He still looks the same as before, but Kurt’s now seeing him in a different light.

“Hey.”

“Hi?” Kurt looks around. Others are staring, looking equally confused. He can see a group of Cheerios shoot him a nasty look. Rachel is standing at her locker and the sight of Blaine makes her furious. Azimio and another football player are watching from afar.

“Hey,” Blaine says again. He sounds nervous.

“Uhm.”

Blaine looks incredibly uncomfortable and nervous. He rubs his neck and he opens his mouth a couple of times to say something. Kurt is still trying to make sure that Blaine’s actually talking to him in public.

“Look, uhm, I just want to say that I’m sorry. You know. About last week?”

Oh.”

Kurt also doesn’t have to fake his surprise. He knows that Blaine is sincerely sorry about what happened and that he’s spent the entire week figuring out what to do with himself, but he still didn’t expect Blaine to say sorry to his face. Blaine made clear that he was still very afraid of what people think of him.

“I should’ve said something to my… friend,” Blaine says the last word as if he’s in pain. He probably is.

“You weren’t the one bullying me,” Kurt says cautiously, “He is the perpetrator.”

“Yes, but you were right. I just stood there. I let it happen.”

Blaine looks down to his feet, so he can’t see the smile on Kurt’s face. Kurt can’t really believe that this is really happening. He didn’t expect Blaine to apologise in the first place, especially not in public. He can’t tell Blaine that he’s very proud of him without it sounding weird, but he is.

“Well, you’re forgiven.”

Blaine looks surprised. “Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

“Cool,” Blaine says awkwardly, “Uhm, yeah, so…”

“I gotta go to class,” Kurt says. It’s a lie and Blaine knows it, since the bell hasn’t rung yet, but it’s an out and Blaine seems very grateful for it. He plays along and nods.

“Right. See you around.”

“Yeah.”

Blaine looks awkward, as if he doesn’t know what to do, so he just backs away and he waves. It looks ridiculous, but Kurt waves back.
