Kurt and Blaine sneak out of the castle. They don’t want soldiers to accompany them, since they’re certain that the Sergeant will only reveal more about The Cooper Chronicles. They’ve kept it a secret for so long, they don’t want to fail at the end of the road.
The end of the road.
It really is happening. Blaine is following Kurt, since Kurt has an idea of where to find the Sergeant, and his steps feel heavy. He wants to clutch his chest. It’s almost as if his heart is about to fall out, but this is what they’ve been working towards.
And Kurt is ignoring it as well. Why is he ignoring it? Doesn’t he suffer as much as Blaine because of this silence?
Kurt stops in front of the theatre building.
“Here?” Blaine asks.
“I don’t know,” Kurt admits, “But I think so.”
“Why?”
“The Sergeant has an obsession with the middle of the kingdom. The theatre is located in the middle of Castle Town. And it’s a gorgeous building.”
Blaine knows that. He’s been inside many times.
“Is this it, then?” Blaine asks.
“I think so.”
“And we’re not going to talk at all about last night?” Blaine asks, sounding a bit desperate.
“Blaine. I’m sorry. Maybe I shouldn’t have-”
“I liked it,” Blaine says, “And you did too.”
“I did,” Kurt admits, “And I want to do it again, but I wish it could’ve been different, but I- We- It’s time. I didn’t expect to fall for someone from another world.”
Neither did Blaine. They’re even more messed up than Mel and Cooper.
“No matter what happens, I will always cherish the moments we had,” Kurt says, although he sounds remorseful too.
It’s no use.
“Ready, then?” Blaine asks. He braces himself and puts his hand over the bag with healing potions that he brought, just in case.
“Yes,” Kurt says, “I am ready to go home.”
Kurt and Blaine enter the main hall of the theatre. It’s a majestic building with high buildings. There’s glass-stained windows at the top of this high ceiling. The curtains that are used during the shows are drawn. The entire theatre room is wooden, except for the plush red chairs.
On stage is a huge mirror and a man standing in front of it. He’s handsome. One might even call him gorgeous.
The Sergeant.
When the Sergeant sees Kurt and Blaine approaching in the reflection of his mirror, he starts clapping.
“Well done, fellas. You have found all the books.”
“We have, yeah,” Kurt says. He puts his hand over his satchel. “And I am here to go home.”
“Do you have to go home?” the Sergeant asks with a childish pout.
“Yes?” Kurt asks, as if the Sergeant’s stupid.
“Well. I don’t think so,” the Sergeant turns around, swishing his fancy robe, and he holds out his hands towards Kurt.
Blaine walks down the stairs, waiting for Kurt to follow, but he hears a bonk.
Kurt’s stuck. His hands are against an invisible surface. He seems to be stuck in one spot in space.
“Kurt!” Blaine runs back up and he reaches for him, but he also hits his hand against a surface. Kurt holds out his palm and Blaine moves his to it.
Kurt is unreachable.
“This wasn’t part of the deal!” Kurt yells. They expected this, but still.
“What did you do to him?” Blaine demands.
The Sergeant rolls his eyes.
“So overdramatic. I can manipulate space instead of time, so I just locked Kurt in one part of the space, that’s all.”
“… Instead of time? The Pink Dagger!” Kurt yells out. He keeps struggling to get out, even though it’s futile. Whatever’s holding Kurt is incredibly strong. Blaine can feel so.
“That old coot,” the Sergeant sounds condescending, “Yes, he manipulated time, and I manipulate space. Shocker. Whatever. He didn’t know of him, but I sure knew of him, so when I nicked one of his seeds even before he discovered them… Well, what he didn’t know didn’t hurt him.”
“You knew of the Seeds of Time before him?” Blaine asks, confused. The Pink Dagger discovered them!
“Who are you?” Kurt asks too.
“I am the Sergeant, and you, mister Hummel, were my greatest tool!”
“Why are you doing this?” Blaine yells out. He walks closer to the Sergeant. He hears Kurt and struggle in the background.
“I have a bone to pick with B.D. Dalton,” the Sergeant says and then laughs evilly.
“You know of B.D. Dalton?” Blaine asks, anger giving away for shock. No one in Daltonia knows about The Cooper Chronicles.
How can the Sergeant know?
“Well, good ole B.D. loved writing villains who would give a speech, explaining their grandiose plans, so let me,” the Sergeant says with a grin. He walks towards the grandiose mirror. “I have always been interested in the concept of space. What is it? What is in it? I never knew why I had this affinity. I just accepted it. But my interest in space and the boundaries of space revealed the truth to me.”
“The truth?”
“The Cooper Chronicles,” the Sergeant says. He looks over his shoulder, back to Blaine. “You would know, right, prince?”
“What if I do?” Blaine challenges.
The Sergeant lets out another laugh.
“I could manipulate space. I always have. I never knew why, and I took it for granted. What matters is that because of that power I found out about how this world was created, and why it was created, and why I was created. I could see this other world beyond our ideas of space, and together with the time seed, I could see its past too. That’s when I found out that I was created to be the original antagonist for the series. I was the initial draft for The Cooper Chronicles’ antagonist, but I got scrapped in favour for the Pink Dagger.”
“… What?”
Kurt also is silent. He must be listening too.
“B.D. Dalton never gave me a second look. Hell, she even named me Sergeant Handsome in her draft! I tried owning the name, but how much does that name suck? It shows how little she cared for me, but unbeknownst to her, this world continues and works without her interference, so even after she discarded me, I continued to exist!”
“So why is Kurt here?” Blaine asks.
“He is needed for my revenge!”
“Revenge?” Kurt calls out from behind.
The Sergeant nods, looking proud. He must be so happy with his grand plan.
“I will make portals to the other world!” he yells triumphantly. He even strikes a pose in front of the mirror. He’s as extravagant as Cooper. Was he created to mirror the Chosen One?
“You can’t!” both Kurt and Blaine yell out.
“Can’t I?” the Sergeant challenges them, “How else did Kurt end up here, in Daltonia?”
“That was you!” Kurt says harshly. It makes sense, but that doesn’t make the confirmation any more fun.
“I made a portal, a weak one, to the other world and snatched the first person I could get my hands on. You were the lucky winner!”
“Winner?” Kurt sounds offended.
The Sergeant turns away from his reflection, back to his audience. He gives them a dazzling smile.
“Or maybe I was the real winner, and you my fabulous prize!” he says and this phrasing makes Blaine feel sick, “I had a real life person from B.D.’s world in my captivity. That’s what I needed.”
“What for?” Blaine asks.
“For my experiments.”
The experiments. Kurt and Blaine knew that the Sergeant has done something to Kurt, and that it was possibly too much for Kurt to handle.
“I had to run tests before I put my spell on him.”
“Spell?”
Blaine is confused.
“No one can use magic except Royals. Even the Pink Dagger had to rely on the Seeds of Time,” he says.
“You can thank B.D. for that! She gave me magical powers. Looks like Cooper initially had another magician as a rival.”
“What did you do to me?” Kurt demands to know.
“Nothing big. I put a spell on you that would allow me to track your whereabouts, and your travels would give me the information I needed.”
“You… were in me?” Kurt sounds absolutely horrified.
The Sergeant holds up his hands, trying to calm him down.
“No, no! That’s something that prince Blaine can do if he wants to-” Blaine turns red “-but that was not what I was aiming for. The spell was placed upon you, not in you. And then I fumbled your mind, so you would forget.”
“You messed with my mind?” Kurt sounds angry.
“I still don’t understand,” Blaine says.
“You don’t have to. You never had to. All I needed was Kurt travelling around the kingdom, mapping out Daltonia in the process. You see, the more space he outlines, the higher my power.”
And by going to all four outskirts of the kingdom, Kurt outlined basically the entire kingdom by enveloping everything within those outskirts.
“So thank you, Kurt, by giving me strength and allowing me to find a way to your world!”
“You motherfucker!” Kurt bangs his fist against the invisible walls. Blaine may not know what this motherfucker is, but it must be something vile if Kurt sounds this vicious.
“Yeah, motherfucker!” Blaine adds too.
“But now that you’ve done your part, there’s no need for you anymore,” the Sergeant says, “Watch this!”
He flicks his hand and at first Blaine is confused, since nothing seems to happen, but then he hears Kurt groan.
Blaine turns around and runs towards him. Their eyes meet and Kurt looks scared as he lowers to the floor in pain.
Fun fact, I came up with the Sergeant's background around the time that I decided to cut out Wes and David from the story. Awkward timing. I was like "man, I hope Wes and David don't come back to haunt me for this."
