Author's Notes:

Hello everyone, happy Christmas Eve for the ones who celebrate, and for the people who are in a different time zone, happy Christmas Day and first day of Hanukkah to those who celebrate. If not, happy Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning.

I am here with the final 2 chapters of Ever After. Yes, I added a chapter. I planned an epilogue at the end of this chapter, but that became huge, and it felt fitting to give it its own chapter. Enjoy!

Moving on isn’t working. Blaine’s chambers, which once felt like a comfort, feel like a prison. But he also doesn’t want to travel, because it reminds him of his time with Kurt. The potions have all been removed, and he’s trying other things than alchemy, but nothing seems to invigorate him.

Blaine isn’t moving on. He’s not moving at all.

“Blaine,” Cooper comes in. He’s home today. “Come down for dinner today, please.”

“I’ll see.”

“No,” Cooper says sternly, “You must. We have something to say.”

“Cooper-”

“Blaine, stop. Look at yourself! Would Kurt want you to be this way?”

“Don’t say his name!”

Cooper sighs.

“Blaine, if I have to drag you out of bed, I will.”

Cooper’s scarily strong, so that convinces Blaine. He puts on some simple clothes and follows his brother to the dining room. His parents are waiting.

“Blaine,” his father says, “Have a seat.”

“I’m not hungry,” Blaine says.

“Still,” his mother insists, “We need to talk.”

“… I don’t want to.”

“Well, then let’s cut straight to the point,” Cooper says as he takes a seat in front of the roast, “I may have found a way to bring you to Kurt’s world.”

That does grab Blaine’s attention.

“W-What? How?”

“The All Power works in mysterious ways, Blaine,” Cooper says, “And it’s still Royal. I have the intention to help you.”

Blaine finally sits down. Cooper explains that he may possibly make a portal towards Kurt’s world, but that is will be another one way portal, and that Cooper doesn’t think he’ll ever be able to achieve it again.

“What we are saying is…” the queen trails off. It’s difficult for her. “You can go to your love. But by doing so, you will leave Daltonia behind.”

Leave Daltonia behind?

“Your father and brother and I have discussed it at length,” his mother continues, “We don’t want you to leave, but you’re miserable! If this grants you happiness… Well, as your mother, that is all I have ever wanted for you.”

“But- But…”

This is all too much, too sudden.

Yet, Blaine cannot deny that for the first time in weeks, he feels awake. And hopeful.

“Blaine, we’ve always wanted the best for you,” his father adds, sounding sad and serious, “We’ve seen how you have never, uh, done anything in life until you met Kurt. He changed you, forever, for the better. You and him are connected in a way we cannot comprehend.”

Kurt reacted to Blaine’s potions. Blaine could read The Cooper Chronicles if wanted.

“We’ve always wanted you to find your Passion, but maybe it cannot be found in Daltonia,” his mother says, trying to hide her sadness, but it’s a lot for her too. She’s telling her son to leave to a place where they can never see each other again.

His father nods.

“Think about it, Blaine. Please. You cannot go on like this, and if this will be your happiness, then maybe the kingdom of New York is where you need to go. Then that might be where you belong!”

Where he belongs?

Blaine’s never felt like he’s belong anywhere else but in Daltonia. He loves Daltonia. It is his kingdom, his home!

But to be fair, he’s never had a reason to even consider the possibility that he’s better of elsewhere. At least until now.

“I can go to New York?” he asks, as if he needs to be reassured that this is really happening.

“Would you want that?” his father asks.

Yes, he wants to shout. That’s the first answer that comes to his mind. Yes, yes, yes!

But the severity of the situation hits hard too. If Blaine leaves, he will never be able to return. He will never see his friends and family again, and it breaks his heart. This is ultimately why Kurt decided to go home.

Can he do that? He watches his parents. His mother is visibly trying to fight back tears. His father looks shaken too. Cooper keeps staring at the roast, but not because he wants to eat it, but because he needs to have something to look at. He can’t look at Blaine now that he’s said what he wanted to say.

But his parents and friends will know that Blaine is going to a better place. It’s not like Kurt, who was unwillingly taken.

Yet, Blaine cannot ignore that his heart has sped up, and that his pulse is rushing, and that his entire body is tingling with excitement. He knows what is he asking of his loved ones. He knows what this means. But he wants this. He definitely wants this.

“Mom, dad, Coop…”

“Yes?” his mother says.

Blaine nods. He can’t put it in words without everyone breaking down, but his mother’s eyes widens and she gets it. His father also clenches his fists and hangs his head in defeat. Cooper nods too.

“I’m-”

“Don’t apologise,” his father interrupts, “You are chasing your happiness. Don’t ever apologise for that.”

Preparations are made. Blaine knows he won’t be able to take much with him, and there’s not a lot to take with him in the first place. It’s a reminder that most of his life was nothing. All the stuff he owns don’t mean anything to him, except for memories of his family.

He packs up his father’s cloak that he used to keep Blaine warm, his mother’s ring that was given to her when Blaine was born, and Cooper’s stuffed dragon that he passed on to Blaine when he grew up.

Blaine wants to stay around for Cooper and Mel’s wedding. It’s a small ceremony, and it’s a private one. His wedding to Arasha was a big Royal spectacle, but given the infidelity, they keep it small. Arasha is there too, to Blaine’s surprise, and it gives Blaine the chance to say goodbye to her as well. Cooper’s posse has been told about what Blaine’s going to do, and even though Blaine never really talked to anyone except Arasha, he almost cries when everyone wishes him luck.

His friends come to say goodbye too. They don’t know the full story, but they know that Blaine is leaving to never return, but that he’s going to follow his lover. That is also what will be communicated towards the kingdom. It’s utterly romantic.

Blaine tries to savour every moment that he has left with his family, but then it’s time to go. Cooper’s gone aflame, ready to unleash the All Power to create a portal.

Silva’s made clothing that somewhat matches what Kurt wore. Then she leaves to give the family some privacy.

“Do you have everything?” his mother fixes the lapels of Blaine’s weird jacket.

“Yes.”

His mother can’t hold it in. She almost crushes him in a hug. His father joins and the three of them hold each other for a while.

“It’s time,” Cooper’s voice pulls them out of their moment. It’s true. A fire-y portal has emerged in the throne room.

“I love you, Coop.”

“I love you too, Blaine,” he says back, “Say hi to Kurt for me.”

“Will do.”

He gives his parents one last hug and then it’s time.

Blaine turns around and know he can’t look back, because it’ll break him. He walks towards the portal headfirst. He goes through it and the flames lick his arms and legs, but it doesn’t burn. Cooper would never let the All Power hurt him.

He keeps walking through this fire until he sees a light at the end of this road. Blaine has to squint his eyes, because the light is almost blinding. He shields his face with his hand, but he keeps walking.

Further, and further, and further.

Until-

“What the fuck?”

Blaine’s eyes have to adjust to his new surroundings. He’s inside… a building. It looks run down and there are curtains instead of walls. Blaine’s arrived in a living area of sorts, and a woman is staring at him with wide eyes.

“What the fuck?” she repeats, “How- This- What?”

She seems lost for words.

“Santana, could you please tone it down I am trying to-”

Blaine turns around. A wall-curtain has been drawn and Kurt is staring at Blaine with wide eyes, as if he can’t really believe what he’s seeing.

"Holy shit," Kurt says.

"Holy shit indeed," Blaine says back.

“… Blaine?” Kurt sounds breathless.

“Kurt?”

“Yeah, uhm, hello? Is anyone going to explain what the hell just- There was a blue fire and- I mean… What?”

Kurt and Blaine both ignore Santana’s questions. They keep staring at each other. Blaine’s too afraid to make the first move. What if this was a misunderstanding? What if Kurt’s moved on in their weeks apart?

But then Kurt’s running towards him, closing the small distance between them, and throws his arms around him.

Blaine?” he sounds awed.

“I’m here, love,” Blaine says and tears start forming in his eyes, “I am here. I am right where I belong.”

When Kurt kisses him, he knows it’s the truth.
