“So, you really cannot reveal the identity of the client, huh?” Blaine asks once everyone’s broken up.
Tim and Kamelah are in the actual shop, whereas the others are in the kitchen. Faarax and Josefien have started baking the cakes. Cooper and Sinéad are already preparing the icing and fondant decorations. After all, the decorating is going to be the most work. Blaine is talking to Kurt while he’s walking around with sacks of ingredients. Kurt’s giving him a helping hand.
“Only guests are allowed to know for now,” Kurt says, “It’s a charity to create awareness about pet healthcare and adoption, so my client will go public soon, but not yet.”
“Exciting.”
“Mr. Anderson, once again thank you so much for agreeing to this,” Kurt says, “I know this is a tricky situation with the lavishness of the cake and the short notice. It’s madness to order a cake this big five days before the event. I hope your team can handle it.”
“We’ll manage.”
“I wish I could help out, but I am busy with all the other plans,” Kurt says regretfully. Regretfully, because he can see it’s a lot of work. Regretfully, because if he could stay, then he could get to know Blaine.
“Do you have baking experience, Mr. Hummel?” Blaine asks.
“Oh yes, but I am just an amateur,” Kurt says, “And you can call me Kurt.”
“Only if you call me Blaine.”
“Deal,” Kurt says and he holds out his elbow so they can bump arms, “How did you decide to start a bakery with your brother?”
Blaine rolls his eyes. “The brother part is a reluctant part of the deal, but I guess you can imagine why.”
Kurt looks over his shoulder to see Cooper talking animatedly. Even Sinéad looks uninterested in what he has to say.
“I’m actually trying to buy out his share of the company, but I have yet to break the news,” Blaine sighs, “But apart from that, I like dogs, I like to bake. That’s it, really. And I had the financial stability to do something like this, so why not? It brings me joy and I value my staff.”
“It’s a good thing you do. If it were just Cooper, I’d run out screaming.”
Blaine laughs. It’s a nice sound.
“I’m glad you’re here when I found this place,” Kurt says earnestly.
Blaine has a surprised smile on his face. He wants to say something, but then Cooper appears out of nowhere and he flings his arm around Blaine.
“Blainey-Days, how’re things?”
Kurt has zero interest in being roped into a conversation with Cooper.
“Well, would you look at the time!” he says with a forced cheeriness. When Cooper looks around for a clock, Kurt shoots Blaine an apologetic look. “I must go. A lot to arrange, you know? This will be a star-studded event, so I must make sure everything is in order. So many, uh, suits to arrange!”
“Suits?” Blaine tilts his head and it makes him look like a confused puppy. That’s saying something. Kurt’s seen many cute puppies.
“Yes, all dogs have a dress code!” This isn’t a lie.
Kurt says a quick goodbye and he rushes out of the bakery, but he can swear he heard Blaine say something to Cooper about ‘ruining it for him’. Interesting.
