Intoducing the infamous HEMA. Also, check Ilse DeLange out. Im not a big fan but Miracle and So Incredible is awesome. The places, of course, exist.
The Elsa and Anna part wasnt scripted. I was actually planning on calling Els Anne, so I thought it was a good idea to call her sister Anne. I was going for Elke, but then I remembered.
I liked it that it sound similar to Elsa and Anna.
... met hoeveel letters spel je dat?
It's 4am and Kurt Hummel is wide awake. He's skyping with Rachel and Santana. It's around 10pm in New York. He shows them the place and Rachel can't stop screaming.
‘Kurt! It's wonderful!' she sounds delighted. Santana, on the other hand, isn't that excited. Mostly because of one thing.
‘You lovebirds have this new comfy bed and the first thing you do is sleep?' she mutters, ‘I expected more. At least, jerk him off or someth-‘
‘Bye, Santana!'
‘No, really-‘
‘Bye. Santana.'
‘Hummel, you-‘ Kurt disconnects the call and logs off before Santana can call again.
Now he's happy that he moved out, because she's way too invested in Kurt's love life.
They meet Els at 12pm. ‘Y'know, hanging around the house can be boring,' Kurt huffs, ‘Do you know a good coffee shop and not the drugs kind of coffee shops!'
Els sighs. ‘We're still famous for the drugs? Okay…' she says annoyed, ‘Also, I'm not a coffee person. I prefer tea, so I dunno. But we can go to Starbucks or something.'
The city is huge. Els is used to it and Kurt and Blaine too because they're from the Big Apple, but this is different huge.
They take a tram to the center. Blaine keeps looking outside, remembering vague things from his previous visit. He's such an excited little puppy.
Adorable.
They find a Starbucks and after ordering it's time for the talking. They talk about Kurt and Blaine: their passions, their past, their meeting, their friends and family… everything.
‘So, Else,' Kurt says, ‘You heard our story. What's yours?'
Els blushes. ‘M-mine?'
Blaine nods. Yeah, of course yours!' he says.
‘I… I'm… I don't really have a story.'
‘Really?' Kurt doesn't sound convinced, ‘Everyone has a story. Come on… what about friends?'
More blushing.
‘Ehm, I don't really have, eh, friends.' Els covers her face. ‘I know, I'm so pathetic.'
‘Woah, woah, Else!' Blaine jumps out of his seat, but doesn't know what to do. He shoots Kurt a worried glare.
‘You never had them?' Kurt tries.
‘Well, I used to have them and they tore me apart,' Els sounds a little bit muffled because she's still hiding her face, 'They used to call me Ilse, just to mess with me. That was just the beginning.' She laughs bitterly.
Then she sees the confused looks on Kurt and Blaine's faces.
‘I bet you dunno who Ilse DeLange is,' she says, ‘Ilse DeLange is a dutch singer. I never liked her and they knew.'
‘Ah.'
‘Then skip the friends part,' Blaine suggests, ‘Let's go to the Else part.' Els smiles.
‘Uh, I'm Els de Lange, like somewhere else, but different. I'm twenty-three years old now. I have a sister, Anne. People compare us to Elsa and Anna from that old Disney movie Frozen. Elsa and Anna, but without the last a and with Anna, there's no a but an e. Uh, I study fashion, as you might know. I work with Daphne Deckers. My dad is an Amsterdammer, my mom is from Limburg. And I don't have friends.'
‘That's rubbish,' Blaine mutters and Kurt hums in agreement.
‘What?' Els looks confused. Did she do something wrong?
‘You have us,' Kurt says firmly. Els looks touched.
‘So, Els without an e,' Blaine says, ‘Continue.'
‘I… uh,' Els looks conflicted, ‘There's more?'
‘Uh, yeah,' Kurt says, ‘What about.. favourite food?' ‘Lasagna.'
‘Apple or Samsung?' ‘Apple.'
‘Favourite movie?' ‘Moana.'
‘Favourite book?' ‘I know it's been years, but Harry Potter.'
‘Favourite colour?' ‘Blood orange.'
‘Shut up, it's fucking red,' Blaine says in a high-pitched voice and they all burst into laughter. It's an old pathetic joke, but at times like this, it's still funny.
And so, the small Q&A continues, until an employee asks them to leave. They make too much noise.
It's around 3pm –or 15:00 according to Els- and they're at the apartment. They passed some other interns, but no one started a conversation, so they headed straight to the apartment.
‘Can you give us some recommendations?' Blaine asks Els after unpacking most of their stuff.
'For what?' Els says absently because she's going through Blaine's clothes. She think they suits Blaine's personality well.
‘Typical dutch shops?' Blaine continues, ‘Supermarkets? DIY shops? I don't know.' ‘Or some good clothes stores here?' Kurt adds.
‘Clothes? Well you have the usual. The international, like H&M and, ugh, Abercrombie & Fitch. By the way, did you know they're going down?' Els stops folding one of Blaine's polo's.
‘Oh hon, I'm surprised they're still here,' Kurt sighs, ‘After what they said in 2013…'
‘Anyway, maybe C&A. Although I'm not sure that one is 100%. I thought the H&M and V&D were,' Els continues, ‘And for the shoes you can go to van Haaren.'
‘How?'
‘Van Haa-ren. Then there is stuff like the Kruidvat, but I never really go there. Supermarkets, we have the Jumbo or the Albert Heijn. I prefer Albert Heijn.'
‘Alber Thain?' Kurt nods, ‘Noted!'
‘Toys- hey, don't give me that look, you never know,' Els says quickly when she sees Kurt's judging glare, ‘Bart Smit. It's 50 years old or something.'
‘Then some extra's –by the way, Blaine, I put all your polo's here- I'd go for the Action.'
‘Action?' Blaine rises an eyebrow, 'That doesn't sound dutch or anything.'
‘Yes,' Els says, ‘Is it international? I don't know. Action is a pile of cheap rubbish that can be useful in some kind of ways. If you need something for a low price, go to the Action. Or maybe BLOKKER or Xenos, but always remember the Action.'
‘But!' Els raises her voice, ‘my favourite is 200% sure the HEMA!'
‘The what?' Kurt asks. He has been writing down everything on his iPad 5, a present from Isabelle for his 24th birthday. At first, Kurt refused to take it, but Isabelle forced him.
‘The HEMA,' Els says with a grin. ‘Oh, I'll show you!'
