Kurt forgot someone else was in the room. There was him and there was Jeff. He ignored the way Wes eyed them as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. David tried to keep a stern look on his face but it was clear the boy was impressed. Blaine looked as if he was hit with a baseball bat. But most warblers listened to them and watched every step carefully, afraid to miss anything.
My sister will be suspicious – Gosh your lips look delicious...
Jeff moved closer cupping Kurt’s cheek and it seemed that he was about to kiss the boy.
Chapter 5
Blaine: No way. He had his chance.
Kurt: His chance? You are a funny guy. If you want me in the Warblers, you will give him an audition. That’s final. Now focus, the teacher is looking at you.
“Mr. Anderson, put your phone away.”
Kurt smirked to himself.
<~*~>
Kurt was putting the books back on the shelves when he heard someone coming. He ignored it because at that time the library was quite busy. But once he saw it was Blaine, he got nervous and inhaled deeply to calm himself. One thing about the trio – they bark but never bite, Kurt reminded himself what Jeff had told him earlier that day. Blaine couldn’t do anything to him. Especially in the library which was full of people. And words can’t hurt him.
“Are you here to kill me?” Kurt put a brave mask on the face and mocked him when Blaine finally was face to face with him.
“I’m here to tell that you passed the test – you are a real warbler now.”
“Excuse me?” Kurt looked at him confused.
“Are you dumb or deaf?” Blaine rolled his eyes.
“Most likely dumb because I don’t understand what you mean.”
“A real warbler has dignity and persistence and doesn’t come whenever someone orders him to. You can come to the next practice without any fear, I’m not making fun of you. I will text you the details later,” he stated looking completely bored.
“Audition for Jeff?” Kurt asked trying not to sound too hopeful.
“The answer is still no.”
“Then don’t bother texting – I’m not joining.”
“Are you fucking serious?”
“No, I find ‘Mad-Eye’ Moody way more attractive. Sorry, I have to go. Have a nice day, Anderson,” he said and walked away leaving Blaine both annoyed and thoughtful.
<~*~>
“Haven’t you found that book?” Jeff asked when Kurt came back to their table.
“Shit, I totally forgot it… I met Blaine and he was an asshole as always so I didn’t know what I was doing anymore; I just wanted to get away from him,” he explained. “I will go a bit later because he may still be there now.”
Jeff looked up. “I don’t think so. He is already here, sitting with Wes and David. The three musketeers.”
Kurt giggled. “Musketeers used to be gentlemen. These three are jerks.”
“True but ‘one for all and all for one’ totally applies. Anyway, I have an idea,” Jeff smirked and put a hand on Kurt’s knee. He leaned seductively and whispered into his ear. “Let’s have some fun. Now giggle.”
Kurt did what he was told. “What exactly are we doing?”
“Blaine is watching,” Jeff whispered.
That was true – Kurt looked at where the trio was sitting and he saw Blaine watching them with an expressionless face. Kurt blushed and pulled away.
“He is probably straight and maybe even a homophobe. We shouldn’t do that,” he said in a hushed voice.
Jeff moved his hand from the knee and put it on Kurt’s lower back. “Trust me, he is gay as the fourth of July; I have an awesome gaydar. And there are no problems with homophobes here, we even have a few couples so no worries.”
“But I–”
“He’s coming and he doesn’t look happy,” Jeff whispered quickly and giggled much louder. “I can’t believe you did that! That’s priceless!”
Kurt shrugged playfully.
“Ten minutes before the practice,” Blaine announced. “Get going if you don’t want to be late.”
“’You’ as in plural?” Kurt asked disinterested. Jeff looked at him confused.
“Yes,” Blaine said and Kurt noticed that the boy wasn’t happy about the decision. “Choose a Christmas song, your audition is in the minutes.”
“Ten?” Jeff freaked out.
“Kurt asked for another audition for you so here you have. Is that a problem?”
“Not at all,” Kurt smiled at him. “Can we sing a duet? I haven’t had an audition either.”
Blaine shrugged. “Fine,” he said and left to join Wes and David who were waiting for him by the exit.
“What’s the plan?” Jeff finally asked.
“Do you know ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’?” Kurt asked with a mischievous smile on his face.
<~*~>
I really can't stay – But baby, it's cold outside…
I've got to go away – But baby, it's cold outside…
Kurt forgot someone else was in the room. There was him and there was Jeff. He ignored the way Wes eyed them as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. David tried to keep a stern look on his face but it was clear the boy was impressed. Blaine looked as if he was hit with a baseball bat. Jeff moved closer cupping Kurt’s cheek and it seemed that he was about to kiss the boy.
“Okay, enough,” Blaine interrupted. “We don’t have the whole day. You are both in; now let’s move on.”
“You were amazing,” Kurt giggled and took Jeff’s hand.
“So were you,” he grinned while going to take their seats with a few warblers applauding or patting their shoulders.
<~*~>
Blaine was jealous. He wanted to wrap his arm around someone’s waist. He wanted to whisper things into someone’s ear. He wanted to make someone laugh. He wanted to kiss someone in the middle of the room full of people. He wanted to buy flowers for someone. He wanted to hold Kurt’s hand. He wanted to do homework with Kurt…
Blaine snapped from his thoughts. How did ‘someone’ suddenly become Kurt? Probably because Kurt was one of the two that made him think of his loneliness. But not for long. After less than a year he will be out of Ohio, safe to be himself again if it was even possible after spending all this time behind his own walls.
He stood up and asked for everyone’s attention. “Today we will start preparing for sectionals. We have three weeks for that so it’s enough time but we will need to practice a lot. Get ready to spend weekends here. Now we need to choose songs for the competition.”
