Chapter 9

After helping Jeff to clean up, Kurt was arguing with himself whether or not he should go to practice with Blaine. Just when Jeff reminded him that it was for the team, he decided to forget his pride.

He really didn’t want to face the boy. But maybe he could finally get everything out, to tell him what a jerk he was. Of course, Blaine would smirk and ignore all his words but it would make Kurt feel better. God, even that short rant in the cafeteria helped him to feel slightly better.

So he was practising what he would tell him all the way to the room where they were supposed to meet. He prepared quite the speech by the time he got there. He heard someone talking and opened the doors. It was Blaine talking on a phone. He was sitting on the couch, facing the other side of the room.

“– forever… I think I can visit you during the Christmas break… Yeah, I will come as always… Please, come. Last year wasn’t the same without you… Thank you! I already can’t wait!… Nothing much. My parents won’t be home for Christmas so it will be just me. I’m planning to spend the Christmas Eve baking the cookies so we have some dessert the next day… Yes, the ones you love so much… Well, I will make loads just for you when I come to visit you, okay?… Deal!… School is fine, have a lot of homework as always and sectionals are coming soon… Lima and we are facing McKinley… Please, don’t be worried about me. I asked not to have any lead in this one so I will just dance somewhere in the background. Even if they come, they won’t see me… Okay, I promise I won’t go anywhere alone… I’ll be fine. I will be extra careful knowing that you are not around… What? You are my hero after all…”

Blaine laughed and suddenly turned around to check a small noise behind him. Kurt cursed himself for adjusting his foot. Blaine of course noticed that Kurt was standing by the doors.

“Um, I have to go, I’ll talk to you later, okay?… I miss you too. Bye.”

Kurt came closer. “Someone special?” he asked softly, suddenly the whole anger leaving him.

“It was a private conversation,” Blaine snapped. He was wondering how much Kurt heard and what he could make out of it.

Kurt shrugged. “You told me to come in two hours. I came, you were talking on the phone so I didn’t want to interrupt. I may have heard a little bit of the end but nothing much. I promise,” he said still standing in the middle of the room.

For a moment Blaine didn’t say anything. He wanted to shout at Kurt for being nosy but somehow he couldn’t.

“He is very special,” he whispered instead.

There was another moment of silence. It seemed that Blaine was arguing with himself.

“I… I know it means nothing to you but I want to apologise. For everything. Calling names, threatening, treating you like you were less than a human, spilling the juice over Jeff’s head… Fuck, if I were you this apology would probably mean nothing to me. I just want you to know that I truly am sorry. I know we will never be friends but maybe we could try to not be enemies? I won’t bother you anymore. I will tell everyone to stop picking on you. And after the sectionals if you want I will never speak to you again. Trust me, I really don’t expect you to forgive me, I just needed to let this out. So yeah…” he finished, his eyes never leaving the ground as if it was the most interesting sight in the world.

Kurt was taken aback. He could have never thought that Blaine Anderson would be apologising to him for his behaviour. There must have been some catch. It couldn’t be real. He didn’t know what to say about it.

“You sounded different when you were talking on the phone,” Kurt chose to state instead of commenting on Blaine’s apology.

Blaine smiled a little. “He saved my life, you know.”

“What happened to you?” Kurt asked gently. Blaine knew it meant much more when ‘how did he save your life?’ It was a deeper question: ‘how did you become this monster?’

“It’s none of your business,” Blaine snapped involuntarily.

“Welcome back, Anderson,” Kurt mocked him.

“Shit, I’m sorry. I mean, I don’t want to talk about it. I just… I’m not good at this,” he rambled. “I promise, after the sectionals I won’t say a word to you unless it’s something important about the Warblers or something, okay?”

Kurt looked at him warily. “If that’s what you want…”

“I don’t but I think it’s for the better.”

“I wish I knew you before all this,” Kurt smiled sadly. “Come on, we need to practice that damn love song.”

<~*~>

After the practice Kurt came back to his room exhausted of emotions. Anger, confusion, pity… It was driving Kurt insane. He couldn’t help but think that maybe Blaine was playing with him. But he sounded genuine. He would definitely need to talk to Jeff about it and ask what he was thinking. Ne may not be the brightest but it seemed that he knew people and could interpret their behaviour. He had told Kurt that maybe he would want to become a psychologist in the future.

He was by his doors when he noticed he had lost his key. Cursing himself he thought of going back to the places he had been that day but first of all he tried to open the doors out of the desperation. To his surprise the doors opened but the room didn’t look like his anymore. It looked more like… his room at home.

“Surprise!” Finn and the twins shouted and Kurt jumped in surprise.

“What the hell?” he couldn’t help but ask, breathing heavily.

Finn giggled. “We wanted you to feel more at home. Jeff told me you had a few rough days so we decided to make a surprise for you,” he explained.

“How do you know Jeff?” Kurt asked.

“We have our ways,” the twins said in unison.

“And you just had to bring these two, didn’t you, Finn?” Kurt wanted to collapse on his bed but the twins were bouncing on it.

“Do you think you could ever forgive me for that?”

“No.”

“You are so funny, Kurtie,” Robert smiled gently at him.

Kurt didn’t say anything but looked around slowly. It really reminded him of home. “I… Thank you, guys, it’s amazing what you did for me,” he smiled at them.

“You need to thank Jeffy for that as well,” Ronald said. “Oh, and here is your key. You also need to blame Jeffy for stealing it from you.”

Kurt growled. How could he not feel his keys being stolen? “I’m going to kill him.”

“Don’t. He is cute, if you know what I mean,” Robert wiggled his eyebrows.

“Ew, gross,” Finn frowned. “I mean, not being gay, but thinking of my brother with someone… No, I don’t need mental images.”

Kurt couldn’t help but laugh. He sat down on his cheer and yawned. “Don’t worry, Finn, he has a girlfriend.”

“Mercedes, I know,” he said.

“How do you know?” Kurt asked.

“She is in the glee club with us. Killer voice. You have no chance of beating us,” Finn said, a proud look on his face.

Kurt raised an eyebrow. “We will see, brother, we will see.”

“See whatever you need, guys, but we need to go now. We have a long way to go home and mom will be pissed if we come back too late.”

“I’ll see you as soon as I can,” Kurt said hugging each or them. “Will you find your way out?”

“Yeah, sure, don’t worry,” Robert said and they all left.

Kurt sighed and collapsed on his bed. Yes, it was an emotional day.

Wes and David as always were by Blaine’s side in no time. “Don’t bother Kurt. Just keep going and nothing is going to happen,” David warned him.

“If you don’t, I will personally make sure your mom doesn’t recognise you when I finish so you better get lost,” Wes added.

End Notes: Fluff - 28 votes.Angst - 16 votes.I'm not sure if this one fluffy enough... If not, I'm very sorry :/ Just couldn't let them become friends in the matter of seconds :)Next big question: You probably know already that Blaine used to go to McKinley. Next chapter is going to be sectionals. Will Blaine meet his tormentors?
