Chapter 7
For the next couple of days the members of the Black Squad kept themselves busy. They exercised, learned new things, had fun together. Due to the rumours, spread by Jeff’s girlfriend Ella, who still hadn’t been introduced to the others, the squad got a dark aura surrounding them, so nobody bothered them.
It came in handy when Burt dumped a pile of files in front of them and asked to look into them. These were the files about the potential newbies that the ‘blacks’ had to recruit. Thankfully, people kept their distance so it made it easier for them to discuss the mission.
After going through the twenty stories they separated them into three geographically and each group took a handful and started preparing.
It wasn’t until almost the end of June when they actually flew to the States to meet their prey.
<~*~>
“I still don’t get it why you keep calling them our ‘prey’,” Kurt shook his head, smiling as they were unpacking their suitcases in the family room that they booked in a hotel. Their cover was that they were all brothers Hoovers, despite the fact they looked nothing alike.
Jeff stopped throwing his clothes into the closet. “Because we are going to hunt them, du-uh.”
“We are going to talk to them, not run after them with bows and arrows,” Kurt rolled his eyes, carefully folding the clothes that got slightly wrinkled during the trip. “Oh no, I can see in your eyes that you are actually considering it so I will just tell you now – the answer is no.”
“But, Kurt, just think how awesome that would be! If we caught them… actually, when we caught them they would believe us right away and that would be a perfect proof that we are telling the truth!”
“Blaine, help me out here,” Kurt breathed.
Blaine tried his best to keep his face straight. “Sorry, Jeffy boy, maybe next time?”
“It’s unfair… Why do you have to be so boring?” the blonde boy pouted.
“I think our cover should have been husbands with an annoying child,” Kurt said and closed his suitcase. “I’m done unpacking. I’ll take a shower before we head out.”
With that he entered the bathroom and shut the door closed. The other boys kept unpacking in silence until they heard the water running.
“Can you believe him? He thinks I’m annoying,” Jeff giggled. “He is just afraid to admit that I’m awesome and that I make him laugh. Actually, I think he may be in love with me. I think I should test it. Maybe I will join him in the shower…”
“You are straight and in a relationship with your mysterious lady,” Blaine reminded him. “Though, Kurt and I got together after the shower sex so I guess you could try.”
Blaine meant it as a joke but he remembered it was Jeff he was talking to a bit too late and regretted his own words the second they left his mouth.
“Jeff, don’t–” he tried but it was too late.
Seconds later the door to the bathroom was wide open and a shriek came from the room. Blaine ran into the room to be met with the sight he would never be able to forget.
Kurt was naked, soap running down his body, which was in Jeff’s sturdy grip. The other boy ignored the water pouring down his clothed body and smiled dreamily.
“I love you too, Kurtie,” he whispered. “I love you too.”
“Get the fuck away from me,” Kurt yelled and tried his best to manoeuvre out of Jeff’s grip. “And you stop laughing!”
Blaine wished he could. Once he snapped out of the shock, he couldn’t help but laugh. He also took his phone and quickly snapped a photo with it, happy to have some new blackmail material.
“I’m glad you love me, Kurt,” Jeff said and Kurt just stopped trying.
“I do, I do, just let me shower, okay?”
“A-HA! So you don’t love Blaine after all? Would you cheat on him with anyone, who joined you for a shower?!” Jeff asked, a hurt look on his face.
“I really underestimated your abilities of acting,” Blaine laughed and pulled Jeff away from Kurt. “Sorry, love, I will keep him on a short leash from now on.”
“You better do,” Kurt muttered and reached for shampoo.
“Nice ass,” Jeff shouted before being dragged out of the bathroom.
<~*~>
After the shower incident Jeff was of his best behaviour because they finally started working on the mission once Kurt was fresh and ready.
Currently they were in New York, having decided that their first target would be a twenty-two year old writer Roger. His file didn’t hold much information so the boys were not sure what to expect so they decided to spend a day or two observing his life from afar. That is, until Jeff got bored.
The way he saw it, it was useless to sit around any longer and watch the guy buy food at McDonalds or run away from a small dog. He wanted to finally do something. And the opportunity came on the second day of watching when Kurt was buying coffee across the street and Blaine spent his time eye-fucking his boyfriend.
With a small smirk Jeff silently backed away and soon he was at the building, where Roger lived.
“Where is Jeff?” Kurt asked as he came back.
Blaine looked around and couldn’t see him. Worry crossed his face. “You think he would–”
“Yes,” Kurt said and they both started running, the coffee cups thrown on the ground.
They reached the door to the apartment just seconds too late as Jeff had already knocked.
“Password?” a male voice came from the other side of the door.
“What?” Jeff asked dumbfounded.
Blaine gritted his teeth. “Mr. Roger, my name is Blaine Hoover. The gentlemen with me are my brothers Jeff and Kurt. We would like to talk to you if you have a moment,” he tried to get in control of the situation.
“Password?” the voice repeated.
“His password is ‘who ate my socks?’” a girl, who had just left her apartment, said. “Good luck with him.”
The boys followed her with their eyes and once she was out of sight Jeff knocked again.
“Password?”
“Who ate my socks?” Jeff asked confidently.
“Not me,” the guy answered and after a few moments the door was opened just a little bit. “What do you want?”
Blaine gave him his best smile. “As I was saying, we just want to–” he started but Jeff interrupted.
“Come on, my man, it’s not safe to talk about it here,” he whispered looking around.
“It?” the guy asked curiously.
Jeff nodded. “If you let us in, we will tell you all about it,” he said.
Roger thought for a few seconds, eyeing each agent suspiciously. “Just take your shoes off,” he finally said and let them in.
The apartment was small but tidy and thankfully the floor seemed to be clean. With only socks on their feet, the four men went into what was supposed to be a living room. Blaine, Jeff, and Kurt sat down on the couch while Roger dragged an armchair so it was in front of the men and sat down facing them.
“I’m all ears,” he said. “And other body parts as well.”
“Great,” Blaine smiled. “So, I’m Blaine and these are–”
“Jeff and Kurt, who aren’t your brothers,” Roger cut him off.
“I’m Jeff,” the blonde guy said cheerfully, earning a disapproving look from Kurt.
“And we are brothers,” Kurt insisted.
Roger raised one eyebrow and smirked. “And I thought that kissing your brother on a mouth was frowned upon in our society… My mistake.”
They were all taken aback by the fact that Roger had noticed them before but Blaine was the quickest to do the damage control. “We are in a very strange relationship. You see–”
“Blaine and I are only step-brothers,” Kurt explained. “We dated before our parents got married. And here we are – step-brothers in love.”
“Are you planning to adopt me and force me into a foursome?” Roger asked and Jeff chuckled. “Because I’m not into that stuff. Sorry, dude.”
“How about we start this conversation over?” Kurt suggested.
“Good idea,” Roger agreed. “So, why are you here?”
Kurt tensed next to Blaine. They didn’t have a plan, they were still not sure how they would start talking to any of the potential agents. This was all too sudden, they were unprepared.
“We are secret agents and we would like to offer you to become one as well,” Jeff suggested grabbing a handful of hazelnuts from the bowl on the table.
If it wasn’t for Roger’s presence, Blaine was sure he could kill his best friend right that second.
“Okay,” the writer replied.
“Wait, what?” Kurt asked, not daring to believe that what he had just heard were actually the real words that left the guy’s mouth.
“You wanted me to accept the offer, right?” he asked and waited for the ‘blacks’ to nod. “Well, I do. This place is not safe anymore. There are enemies everywhere and I can’t fight them off on my own. I thought you might be bad guys as well but the blonde’s honesty shows me that you aren’t. At least he isn’t. Mark my words, the dishonesty will ruin this country one day.”
Kurt nodded, not really sure what else to do. “Okay, so if you accept the offer, you will need to sign some papers. You can’t tell anyone about this. The training will begin in–”
“Details, details… Just take me to your leader,” Roger uttered and stood up. “Come on, let’s go. What are you waiting for?”
“Well, first of all, we will go to our hotel and give you some papers to sign. Then we will send you to England because that’s where our base is,” Blaine explained. “Do you want to pack something?”
Roger thought for a moment. “Maybe some socks… Okay, give me ten minutes,” he said and left.
“Sorry, Blaine, but I think I just found a new best friend,” Jeff said looking longingly at the closed bedroom door.
“What. The. Fuck. Were. You. Thinking?!” Blaine asked, doing his best to control his voice. They didn’t need Roger hearing them and changing his mind.
“Oh, stop, Blainey,” Jeff yawned. “He agreed too with us; we have one new ‘white’ in our hands. What do you want from me?”
Blaine clenched his fists. “We are lucky he is some weirdo, otherwise we wouldn’t have stood a chance with him!”
“That’s exactly why I did this,” Jeff defended his actions. “Do you think that your ‘Mr. Roger we would like to blah blah blah’ would have gotten to him? Didn’t you hear that stuff about honesty he talked about? You should thank me.”
“Yeah, thank you, but if you ever do that again, I will punch you,” Blaine threatened. “Next time tell me before doing something stupid.”
“Us, tell us,” Kurt corrected him. “We are a team and we should work as one. We got lucky this time but let’s talk our ideas through before taking any actions.”
Jeff stirred uncomfortably. “I’m sorry. It just seemed that you two would take forever just watching and I already knew what we should do with him. But I didn’t think you would consider my plan.”
Blaine sighed. “Jeff, we are equals here and of course we would seriously consider any idea one of us has. I always cared about your opinion and nothing changed now that you are an agent. I want to know what you think about my or Kurt’s ideas and we are equally as interested in yours.”
“Dad was right,” Kurt said watching them. “We need to learn to work as a team.”
“I take it, it’s your first job together?” Roger asked coming out of the bedroom with a small suitcase. “I got all my socks and a passport. I thought it might be useful.”
“Good thinking,” Jeff said and stood up. “Now, off to the greatest adventure you will ever get to experience!”
Blaine smiled at his friend’s enthusiasm and pulled his phone out of the pocket. Closing the apartment door, he quickly sent a message to all his squadmates and Burt.
Blaine: 1/5.
