“What do you mean he’s not moving?” Burt’s eyebrows furrowed while the Headmaster of Dalton Academy explained to Burt Hummel as well as Blaine’s parents that Blaine had been sitting on the spiral staircase for hours.
“I don’t understand why he’s doing this. I understand that the staircase means a lot to Blaine because it holds many memories of his relationship with Kurt, but this is completely irrational!” Mr Anderson was shocked that his son would ever do such a thing, of course he was sympathetic that Blaine was going through a break-up from the person whom he was planning to spend his life with, however he was deeply worried about his sons actions. He had noticed that Blaine had begun distancing himself from his family, compared to how much he depended on them when he had left New York, but he felt that he should let Blaine see if he could start to become independent again like he used to be. Well, he’d always thought that his son was quite independent but he can see clearly now how much Blaine lent on Kurt and needed him to function, like Kurt was oxygen to Blaine. This realization pained the man’s heart.
“I know Mr Anderson, Mr Hummel. I was hoping that he wold listen to you, before you arrived asked some of Blaine’s close fellow Warblers, who conveniently happen to be coaching the Warblers at this time, to speak to him. I believe that they are still with him as they have not returned to my office to inform me of any progress.” As the Headmaster opened the arched door he turned back to face Burt Hummel and the Anderson’s, “I’m sympathetic to Blaine as I'm aware he is going through an extremely rough time in his life and he always was one of my brightest, enthusiastic students before he left Dalton. From what I've seen and heard from others, I do fear that he is becoming emotionally unstable due to his separation from Kurt. You should consider seeking help for him, even if he tells you that he does not need it”.
The parents in the room swallowed the lumps in their throats before saying their ‘Thank you Sir’s’ and ‘Goodbye’s’, then exited the office, anticipating seeing someone they loved dearly in a hysterical state.
Burt Hummel let his mind drift to his son in New York. Kurt had not been in touch with him since days before he ended his engagement to Blaine. Burt was shocked when a distraught Blaine had turned up at his door late one night without any belongings, no bag or suitcase, and most importantly without his son. At first Burt panicked thinking that something had happened to his boy, but once Blaine collapsed into his arms explaining through sobs that Kurt had left him Burt’s heart ached for Blaine. Burt desperately wanted to know why Kurt had left Blaine when they were weeks away from the wedding and more importantly if he was safe, which he knew was eating at Blaine too, even after being heartbroken by Kurt, Blaine still was deeply concerned for him.
As Burt, Mr and Mrs Anderson made their way down the staircase they saw a small group huddled around a young man, who was sitting on the edge of the third step towards the bottom of the stairs, hugging his knees. The sight broke their hearts. Blaine had always been happy. The Anderson’s couldn't remember many times Blaine wasn't smiling from ear to ear, except from when people have been homophobic towards himself or others, or times that he had been without Kurt. The couple both felt that they should resent Kurt but they couldn’t, they loved him and they loved how extraordinarily happy he made their son, with the exception of now. Like Burt, the Anderson’s had no idea why Kurt ended their engagement or why he was withdrawing himself from all of the people he loved.
“C’mon Blaine. We understand that you’re hurting but you know that you can’t do this. It’s ridiculous” Jeff contributed to the persuasive speech Nick, Wes and himself were trying to give.
“Jeff, please try to be a bit more sensitive or let Wes and I handle this.” Nick advised.
“Blaine?” Mrs Anderson said quietly, crouching down beside her son. “What’s going on honey?”
“I’m waiting” Blaine explained to his mother, as if what he was saying made all the sense in the world.
“What do you mean Son?” Mr Anderson questioned. “Waiting for what?”
“For Kurt.” Blaine answered. “This place… this staircase, is like our checkpoint. We met here. I realized that he was the love of my life here. I proposed here. I kissed Kurt for the first time in the room at the end of that corridor. I know that you may think that I’m in denial, but I know him. I know Kurt. He didn't mean it, there is a reason that he left me, but it’s because something is wrong, and I know that he’ll realize that we are meant to be together. If I wait here, he’ll know where I’ll be. He’ll be able to feel it, I know he will.”
Burt, The Anderson’s, Nick, Jeff and Wes all stared at Blaine, stunned at what they were hearing.
“We have to tell Kurt.” Wes stated.
“No!” Blaine’s scream echoed around them. “You cant tell him! If Kurt comes back it needs to be his choice, he needs to decide he wants to be here with me, not because you made him. If he needs time then thats okay, he’ll come back. I’m sure.” Blaine told them with complete confidence in Kurt. “He’ll come back to me.”
In the next chapter will be Kurt in New York and im maybe going to do a time jump, but it will only be a couple of weeks.
