"I have not..." Kurt looked down.
"You've been running out of the classrooms all day. What's wrong?" Blaine asked, leaning against the wall.
"It's just ... I don't want to continue. I can't," Kurt sighed. "You guys have no idea what it's like to lose someone so close. To be there when it happened."
"You're right Kur---"
"So please, just leave me alone." Kurt walked off. Blaine stayed leaning on the wall, watching him. He only looked away when he heard Wes and David.
"Hey man," Wes said, doing the cool-guy handshake.
"What's up guys?" Blaine said.
"Are we continuing? The story?" David asked.
"You guys want to hear it?"
"Yes!" Wes and David said together.
"We barely know of your life before Dalton. All we knew is that you were bullied in your last school. It's interesting to know you weren't always a cool kid," David laughed.
Blaine laughed along. "Okay okay c'mon," he smiled as he walked to his room.
"He better appreciate it!" Puck groaned as they walked into the cabin. He was sporting a black eye.
"Puck ..." Finn groaned.
"What!? All I'm saying is that---" Puck was cut off by Mike's hand smacking his chest. "Hey---!"
"Shh!" Mike said, nodding towards a huddled mass of Kurt on the bed, sniffling, crying.
"Kurt?" Blaine asked.
Kurt flinched and huddled closer into himself. "Go away!"
"Hey this is our cab---" Finn started.
"I said go away!" Kurt's voice cracked. The boys looked at each and ran out of the cabin.
"Should we get one of the adults?" Artie asked.
"Uh yea, I'll go get Ms. Pillsbury," Finn took off, returning with both Ms. Pillsbury and Mr. Schue.
"Guys what happened?" Mr. Schue asked.
"We dunno we just went in and he's crying and yelling at us to leave," Blaine said in one breath.
"I think its cause of what that kid said," Finn said.
"Okay okay we'll go check on him. Why don't you kids go to the crafts tent?" Ms. Pillsbury said.
The boys nodded and went to the tent. Something caught Blaine's eye and he turned to the group.
"I'll be right there!" He said, running to the lake and picking up the dirty, ripped pieces of Kurt's letter.
"Whatcha got there?" Mercedes asked.
"Kurt's letter," Blaine started putting it together like a puzzle. When he finished he frowned. It was too many pieces to tape back together. Sighing, he grabbed a piece of paper and a colored pencil and started copying it.
"Whoa you're really copying it?" Tina asked. Blaine just nodded, trying to read the sloppy handwriting. There was some words he couldn't read, but he tried to best he could. By the time he was finished, Kurt was being led into the tent by Ms. Pillsbury and Mr. Schue.
"Kurt! Hey Kurt!" Blaine ran up to him with his revised letter. "I um ... Here!" He handed to him. "I tried the best I could ..."
Kurt looked over the letter, a smile spreading across his face as he read the colored print. He finished and looked up to Blaine. "Thank you."
Blaine showed his own goofy grin. "No problem Kurt---!" he was cut off by Kurt squeezing him in a hug. Blaine still grinned and hugged him back.
"Aw that's just too cute!" Wes laughed.
"Hey!" Blaine blushed. "I just felt bad for him that's all!"
"Sure Blaine," David teased. "That's all."
"Cut it out guys!" Blaine's blushed turned deeper.
"Blaine we're not stupid, nor are we blind," Wes pointed out.
"Wh-what?" Blaine stuttered, his face matching the red trim on his blazer.
"They way you ogle him in class, Warbler meetings, and all around in school," David added.
"What no!"
"Totally bro. You're crushing hard on Mr. Hummel here," Wes teased.
"Am not!"
"Why don't you just go after it?" David pressed.
"I dunno! I-I---Just---uggggh I thought you wanted to hear the story?" Blaine groaned, his face hot and red.
"Yea yea continue on Blainers," Wes laughed.
"As I was saying!" Blaine continued on. He didn't notice. He didn't notice Kurt by the door, smiling at the three.
It was late when Blaine heard the screen door creak open and close. It was late enough that Blaine knew that whoever was walking out of the cabin was going to get in trouble if they were caught. Blaine looked around and saw that Puck, Finn, Mike, and Artie were all still asleep. He peered over the edge of the top bunk and spotted Kurt’s empty bed. Quietly but quickly he got out of bed, put on his shoes, and left the cabin. He found Kurt by the lake, sitting on the dock.
“Kurt?” Blaine whispered.
Kurt jumped and turned around. “Blaine? Please don’t tell on me.”
“I won’t if you won’t,” he said, taking off his shoes climbing next to him on the dock. The two swung their feet in unison in the water, making tiny waves.
“Thanks for the letter,” Kurt gave a small smile.
“Huh? O-oh it wasn’t a problem,” Blaine said. “I can’t believe how mean Karofsky is to you. At least Puck got to punch him,” he smiled. They talked in hushed voices trying not to be heard.
“He did?” Kurt asked, eyebrows raised.
Blaine nodded. “Yea, and Karofsky went to hit him back but Coach Beiste came and broke them up. They aren’t allowed to do any activities tomorrow.”
“Oh …” Kurt blushed, feeling guilty.
“It’s okay though cause he was being mean to you! And you’re our friend so of course we’re gonna stick up for you.”
“I’m your friend?” Kurt squeaked.
“Huh? Yea. We all are.”
“Who said?” Kurt asked sincerely.
“Um no one but I mean, we get along and we have fun so yea, we’re friends,” Blaine offered him a confused smile.
“Oh,” Kurt started to smile. “Cool.”
It grew quiet for a bit, but it was a comfortable smile. It dark out, the only light was the moon on the lake. It made Blaine a little frightened, but Kurt didn’t mind. He wasn’t afraid of the dark.
“Blaine? Are you okay?”
“Y-yea! Wh-why?” Blaine blushed, a bit scared.
“Are you afraid of the dark?” Kurt asked.
“N-no …”
“It’s okay, I won’t make fun of you,” Kurt offered him a smile, throwing an arm around his shoulder, bringing him closer to him. Blaine blushed even deeper.
“Um th-thanks Kurt,” Blaine smiled shakily.
“No problem Blaine,” Kurt said. They watched the lake, the cool summer air making itty bitty waves. Fireflies sparkled around them, blinking on and off. Their feet skimmed the lake as they swung lazily, feeling the lukewarm water. It was so clear that they saw themselves and their surroundings shining back at them; the trees, the moon, the stars, the little skyline of fireflies. Soon Blaine relaxed, leaning more in to Kurt as Kurt just stared ahead.
“Kurt?”
“Hrm?”
“After we go home, will we still be friends?”
“Huh?”
“Well, you live in Lima, and I live in Westville. Who knows how far apart they are. So I wanna know if we’ll still be friends after we go home…”
“Well of course we will be Blaine, if you want,” Kurt smiled.
“I do,” Blaine smiled back. “Um Kurt?”
“Yes?”
“Have you ever liked someone?”
“Excuse me?” Kurt blushed.
“I-I’m just wondering cause you’re older than me and I just asking in case I start to like someone here and maybe you could give me advice,” Blaine rambled.
Kurt blushed. “O-oh well sorry, I can’t help you. I um uh …” Kurt trailed off.
“Oh it’s okay,” Blaine said. “It was a weird question,” he gave a small chuckle. But right after he gave a big yawn.
“Come on, let’s go back. Before we get in trouble,” Kurt said, removing his arm and getting up, grabbing his shoes. Blaine nodded and did the same. The two boys quickly made their way back to their cabin, falling asleep almost instantly.
”Oh my god you are such a loser!” David laughed.
“Hey!” Blaine blushed.
“Such the smooth talker!” Wes howled, falling back on the bed.
“Shut up guys!” Blaine groaned, hiding his face in his hands.
“Well I think it’s cute,” David laughed, shoulder’s bouncing.
“Yea. Everyone needs---a summer---love,” Wes tried to say, but keep laughing.
“Kill me,” Blaine fell back on the bed, burying his head in his pillow.
“Well if it helps, it was cute,” Kurt leaned in the doorway, smiling.
“Kurt!” All three boys grinned.
“Hey, I was wondering if I could join you guys again?”
“Always, Hummel,” Blaine gave a dorky smile.
