Today was the day of the race and they were all worried. Cooper had called his group together. They were just waiting for him now. Kurt squealed as Blaine grabbed him and pulled him to his chest.
“You're making me sick watching you pace,” Blaine said as he pressed a chaste kiss to Kurt's lips. Kurt smiled and kissed him once more. He turned around and laid back against Blaine. His arms stayed wrapped around his waist and covered Kurt's folded hands.
“Hey, guys,” Cooper said walking up to them. All eyes focused on Cooper as he walked up to them.
“I don't know how this race is going to pan out...but I pulled out. I told Sebastian I can't race, somebody needs to stay in the alley. He didn't fight it too much. But, I will be following you guys along the race. I have a car he doesn't know about and I'm using it.”
“Cooper?” Santana said.
“What?”
“What if he tries something? What if he does something like he did to Kurt or..or Nick...”
“All of your cars will stay here until we go to the alley. Check over everything. After what happened to Kurt's car I don't want anything happening to anybody else.”
“Everybody will have a blue tooth in their ear. Cooper and I got them this past week. We can all communicate this way. We'll all be able to hear each other,” Blaine said.
“But don't be stupid! Don't distract somebody else...if it's distracting take your piece out but don't turn it off,” Cooper added. They were all given a blue tooth and then Cooper brought out 5 boxes.
“These are your GPS's. The map is already programmed into them. Install them in your cars for the race. They come out after,” Cooper said. Everybody got a GPS and went off to their cars. Kurt turned to Blaine who looked worried.
“Everything will be okay. Just think...once we get past this race we're closer to Paris,” Kurt said and kissed Blaine passionately.
“Would...would you pull out? Please?”
“What?” Kurt asked incredulously.
“I know I said I'd be better about it but Kurt...I have a bad feeling about this race...”
“You're just afraid I'll beat you again,” Kurt said, trying to get him to smile.
“Oh, I know you'll beat me but...I mean it. I'm worried. Something isn't right about this race. Please?”
“No, Blaine. I'm new in this world but I need to make my place known. That I'm not just your fuck buddy and I'm not just your boyfriend. I need to do this...”
“Okay...if something isn't right at all during the race you better stop and pull over and give up.”
“Fine. But, nothing will go wrong. Calm down.”
“I'm trying.”
“Good,” Kurt replied smiling and kissed his cheek.
“I love you, babe.”
“I love you, too,” Kurt replied and walked over to his car.
That night came way too fast. Kurt sat anxiously in his car in line. He got out and walked over to Blaine. He was sitting on the hood of his car looking at the stretch of road. He turned to Kurt as he got closer and smiled. Kurt felt himself relaxing at the sight. Cooper walked up to them looking anxious.
“Be careful. I couldn't live with myself if anything happened to either one of you,” Cooper said.
“We'll be fine...thanks Cooper,” Blaine said. Kurt smiled happily as the brother's hugged each other. It surprised him when Cooper pulled him into a hug. Kurt tentatively wrapped his arms around Cooper and smiled. Cooper let him go and went to all of his other crew. Kurt looked back at Blaine and they hugged each other tightly.
“Good luck,” Blaine said.
“Good luck,” Kurt said smiling. Kurt kissed his neck and pulled away. He went to his car and started it up. He put his blue tooth on, made sure it worked, and then turned the GPS on. He watched Brittany make her way between the cars. The flag went up and then she dropped it. All the cars flew past her and down the highway.
Kurt, Blaine, and Sebastian held the lead with the rest of the gang right behind them. Kurt kept looking to make sure everybody was okay.
“Kurt, calm down,” Blaine said as if sensing something was wrong with Kurt.
“I'm fine...just watching the people around me and my GPS.”
“I'm behind you guys, don't worry,” Cooper said.
Kurt watched as Blaine's car pulled ahead of them and Kurt started to inch forward. They made the right turn down another road with Blaine still in the lead. Santana drifted into the turn and pulled up next to Kurt. Jeff and David were trailing.
“What's going on back there?” Santana asked.
“Cooper asked us to hang back. Jeff offered first and I volunteered.”
“Ah, I see,” she replied. Kurt understood Jeff's hesitancy. As they made the winding turns and grew closer to the end Kurt was now up with Sebastian and Blaine. He was smiling as he pulled up to them and started to move forward.
From the corner of his eye he saw Sebastian swerve towards him. He turned his car and hit Santana and cursed. She stopped her car yelling in Spanish in his ear.
“I'm sorry! Sebastian swerved!”
“Kurt?” Blaine asked scared. And that was it. Kurt lost more speed and watched as Sebastian hit the back end of Blaine's car and he lost control. The car turned in circles and rolled over and landed upright on the other side of the street. Kurt hit his brakes and unbuckled. He watched Sebastian drive away. Everybody else stopped by his car and got out of theirs.
“Blaine? Blaine?! Blaine, answer me...please,” Kurt said over and over into the blue tooth. There was only silence. He saw the car Cooper had been using was parked right behind them. Kurt got out of his car and ran for Blaine's.
“Kurt! Stop!” heard Cooper yell at him.
“David, you know what to do! Jeff, call Wes! We need to get his car out of here...”
“Blaine?” Kurt said reaching Blaine's totaled car. Blaine was slumped over in his seat. Blood was running down his face from his head. He tried the door to his car frantically but it wouldn't budge. Somebody wrapped their arms around him and pulled him away. Kurt fought weakly to get away feeling the bitter sting of tears in his eyes.
“Come on,” he heard. Kurt turned into the hold and grabbed the person's shirt with his fists. He cried into the shirt and felt his stomach churning. He pulled away and turned into the little patch of grass. He retched as the little meal he ate all day came up. He looked back and saw Cooper reaching into the car. Kurt's knees gave out and he fell to the ground. Anger, hate, sorrow, and anguish flowed through his body for Sebastian and Blaine respectively.
“It'll be okay...” the voice said. He looked up and saw Jeff kneeling next to him. He let Jeff lead him to his car. Kurt watched from the passenger seat as Cooper pulled out of Blaine's car. His shirt was soaked in blood and Kurt's stomach turned once again but there was nothing to come up. Cooper took Kurt's car and parked it off on a side street. Kurt sat in Jeff's car starting to feel nothing but numbness.
“I'll get you to the clinic so you can be with him...I'm not leaving you alone though.”
Kurt nodded, having barely paid attention and looked at the scene as they drove by. In a matter of minutes his world had crashed around him and had made a three sixty.
