Kurt stopped typing his article up and sat back in his chair. Linda appeared back in her office with two coffees. He took his and instantly took a long drink of the hot liquid. He put it down and turned back to his notes. He noticed Linda staring at him but he did his best to ignore it.
“What's bugging you? Caden?” she asked. Kurt let out a loud sigh and closed his laptop and notes. He put them off to the side and faced her. She looked at him concerned and down at his wrist.
“I sprained it,” he replied.
“I didn't ask about it...”
“You were looking at it,” he replied.
“And I think you didn't do it. I think Caden did,” she said crossing her legs and folding her hands together. Kurt looked down at his bandaged wrist and let the first tear fall.
“I'm scared, Linda...Blaine is back and we've been talking and Caden is getting more possessive,” Kurt replied. She reached over and put a hand on his knee and ran her thumb over it.
“I'm getting you out of there. Tonight.”
“No...no, no, no. Linda. Please! Caden will only hurt you. Let me do this on my own?”
“You've had over a year...it's getting worse, Kurt. I can't watch you like this...”
“Please, Linda...just let it go. I can handle myself.”
“I know you can, Kurt. But...”
“But nothing. I'm okay and I'm safe. You don't need to worry,” Kurt replied.
“He's hurting you! That's not safe!”
“Please, Linda...he's all I have now.”
“You have Blaine...”
“He wouldn't want me back after what I did,” Kurt said looking away.
“He talked to you didn't he? I think that says enough.”
Kurt looked down at the boring tan tile of the office and sighed. He ran a hand through his hair and jumped when his phone started ringing. Picking it up he saw Caden's name and the picture of them together on his screen. Linda got up and left the office as he answered.
“Hey, Babe. How's your day?” Kurt asked, doing his best to hide the fact he'd been crying.
“I just wanted to see when you were coming home. I made dinner and have a bottle out for us,” Caden said. Kurt wasn't surprised he did this. After he hurt Kurt he usually found some way to make up for it.
“I also have some of your oils out and I'm going to treat you to a little massage tonight,” Caden supplied after wards. Kurt rolled his eyes and sighed.
“I'll be home in about twenty minutes. Linda and I were just talking,” Kurt said.
“Is everything okay? You sound off,” Caden replied.
“Um...it was a bad day. The hearing started late, Linda had a little family emergency, and then I got more work to do for the publisher.”
“Come home and relax,” Caden said.
“I'll be there soon. Bye,” Kurt said.
“See you soon, Kurt. I love you.”
“I...I love you, too,” Kurt said and hung up. He put his phone down and started to pack his stuff up. Linda came back in, her arms crossed and a pointed expression on her face.
“Good luck...if you need anything, I'm just a call away,” she said as he left.
Once home, Kurt put his phone on the coffee table and his bag in the corner. He walked into the kitchen and saw Caden sitting at the kitchen table. Kurt walked over and put his hands on Caden's shoulders and kissed his cheek.
“How was work?” Caden asked.
“Same old. The case is almost over so we'll see how that goes,” Kurt replied and sat down at the table. Caden got up and got the food out from the oven and salad from the fridge. They ate in a silence that unnerved Kurt. After dinner, Caden kept to his promise and gave Kurt a back massage. If there was one good thing he did, it was these. Kurt sighed in content as Caden's hands ran down his back. He startled when Caden started pressing kisses to the back of his neck. Kurt closed his eyes and let Caden's touch roam over his body. He did his best to get the feel of him out of his system but it was hard. He tried to remember him and Blaine but he knew Blaine would never do this to him. The bile rose in his throat as Caden went on.
The next morning in the coffee shop Kurt had a large coffee with an extra shot of espresso. He was tired from being kept up last night and he couldn't keep awake. He hoped the coffee kicked in soon so he could deal with the day ahead of him.
A familiar shadow loomed over him and he looked up to see Blaine. Hair gelled back and dressed in his suit for court. Kurt smiled at him and looked around for Caden. Thankfully, he wasn't there yet.
“Good morning,” Blaine said.
“Not yet,” Kurt replied.
“Why?”
“Long night last night...with work and everything...it just took me a while to finally get into bed,” Kurt said. Blaine nodded and sat down across from him. Kurt hoped Caden wouldn't get there before Blaine.
“Shouldn't you be heading to court?” Kurt asked.
“I actually don't need to be there so soon. I have leeway today. The case doesn't start until 9:30 today,” Blaine said.
“Oh, lucky,” Kurt replied. A hand landed on Kurt's shoulder and he flinched. He grew tense and looked behind him. Caden stood over him looking at Blaine pointedly.
“Uh...Caden this is Blaine...Blaine this is--”
“I'm Kurt's boyfriend,” Caden supplied.
“Yeah...” Kurt added. Blaine's eyes darkened as he looked up at Caden and then stood up.
“I was just saying hi to Kurt and leaving for work. You enjoy your morning,” Blaine said lacing anger with the last sentence. Kurt winced and looked down. Caden's grip tightened on his shoulder and he shrank down. He looked up and saw Blaine watching him by the front door with a confused expression then left.
When Kurt and Caden left, Caden grabbed his good wrist roughly. The glare seared right through Kurt and he winced, looking down. He could feel the bruises forming around his wrist from Caden's strong hold.
“Don't be stupid...or you will regret it,” Caden said and let his wrist go and walked away. Kurt watched him go and then walked to his car. He got in, shaking, and text Linda and told her what happened and said he'd see her soon. He needed somebody...
